!!!The Difference Between an Animal and a Monster!!!

Animals are creatures, like a cat, a dog, a fish, a whale, even a rat, they are biological, and range from plant eaters to screaming balls of meat-eatery from the sky(eagle). They do not have any sort of magical abilities, and this tends to be the only difference. In monsters the magic tends to be evolved in, making it fairly specific in what they can do, and where the magic gets it's power from.

Monsters are not by default predators or, or violent, big or small, land, air, or sea based, there have even been known to be plant monsters. They can be anything an animal can be, only they have magic in some form.

I'm having trouble putting the monster I'm thinking of into words; and giving it a name.

its a very large monster, can walk on ether four or two feet, the average one is about five, six feet on four legs, twelve plus on two. It has a very thin hairless frame, and a long tail, about the width of an average person's arm most of the way, twice the length of the rest of the body and opposable like a monkey's; near the end of the tail there is a set of sharp bony ridges, similar to that of a saw blade, but jointed so the tail can still bend. It uses these as a weapon or to gain better grip on things. It's skin is mostly a dark blue but lighter and slightly metallic on the face with a black band across the eyes then continuing down neck and along the spinal plates(read ahead), combining just past the base of the tail and out to the end. nearly all the joints on its body except the wrists, hands, toes, and tail are surrounded by thick black plates of armor that resemble rock more than anything organic, each joint comprised of an array of armor plates that don't limit motion. except for the saw the tail is bare. it's hand has three fingers and two thumbs all with razor sharp talons. Their head is partway a mix between that of a monkey and that of a wolf. they are born the size of a newborn deer, i doubt this will ever be important but they lay cocoon like eggs.

as best as can be figured out they're society is primarily female dominated. They are naturally pack animals but become hostile to each other, and just about everything else when resources are scarce. They fight like a wolf that can fly through trees and are active from near dusk to late morning. they are not dumb but are far from a human level of intelligence, and can even be trained, its suicidally dangerous, the only reasonable way to do it is to get an egg before it hatches, in its self a death wish as they have obscenely strong parent instincts, and raising the hatchling as you would a puppy.

what makes them monsters is that they can produce a fog like shadow blocking out almost all the light, though they are able to see through it clear as day, giving them an advantage over even the most strongly night sighted animals. the fog is a form of magical energy.

They are an odd species because they are one of the most feared things to run into in the wild, can be domesticated, and their armor plates are prized for their hardness.

I think i actually got it all this time, except the name... it needs to be something that isn't corny.

edit: oh thats what i forgot, they live mainly on the jungle continent at the edge of the forest, especially near open plains as their too large for the denser parts of the forest.

the Manticore
The Manticore said to live in forests.this creature is considered more dangerus than any other of the jungle dwellers.Its den or lair is often in a cave or underground hole
The Manticore has the body of a lion and a head resambling that of a human,except for its 3 rows of sharp teeth.some members of this species also has small bat brown wings,although nothing is ever said about a Manticore flying.Its tail,however, was long and scaled like a snake.the tip of the tail had poison darts which could be thrown;some people belive these darts are made poisoness with the jucie of the upas tree.
The Manticore either stalks its prey or use its hypnotic gaze, getting close enough to hit the animal or human with poisoned darts.then it tears its victums limb form limb.

The Gryffon, a creature who pride is not something to take lightly.


the Rooke (pronounced rook) Wolf a creature of the pack, who lives in the cliffs nears forests.


the centaur, a creature whose knowledge of the land and the stars is surpassed by none.
