I do believe we already have a thread devoted to kata. Ask there?
You know, out of all the karate people in the guild, I have a feeling shotokan may be in the minority. Which is unusual given that shotokan is by far the most prevelent form of karate I've come across. In the UK at least.
Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
No no your right shotokan is not really a....."americannized" (lol) form so you won't find alot of bullshit dojo's that do shotokan. It's also not a pretty form, it's really focused on fighting unlike some other forms that I won't mention that are really about showing off your pretty kicks and just showing off in general.I truelly wish shotokan was more widely known in America or in your case the UK, but if it was at the cost of really selling out for big money ventures and devauleing the form i'd rather it stay the minority.
Oh right, sorry about asking which ma you do in that pm =p I forgot where your name was from
ninja No I was saying, that shotokan karate is the most common form of karate in the UK. I'd say at
least half of all the karate schools in the UK are shotokan. Which is why I'm suprised its not very common in this guild.
Most of the karate I've seen has been shotokan, so most of my ideas/opinions about it are based on that style. One of the reasons I started martial arts in the first place, was sparring with a friend who had a purple belt in shotokan.
And no, one of the biggest karate clubs around here is shotokan, and they win lots of prizes and comps for their katas. This is because they dont spar, ever... Which is total wank.
Not as bad as the other karate club which is "Shotokai". Some utter bullshit style this guy came up with that seems to be a horrible mixture of shotokan and kungfu O_o Seemingly taking the worst bits of each style and rolling them together in one sick mess...
