Shade looked over her shoulder to see the massive tree that was her birthplace. Her mother, father, and brother were sleeping underneath and all together. Her mother Lamya Indira was expecting the rest of her family to come soon and meet them now they had been born into the world. Her mother told her she had been named after her grandmother Attia Shade. The young back filly was excited to meet her aunt, uncle and two grandparents at the same time worried. Her mother’s family was one of demons and being innocent as she was... wasn't sure she would get used to it. Could she?

The young newborn filly looked over her shoulder again and decided to walk from her tree. Fear gripped her inside as she took a few steps away then turned back. Could she really leave even for a few moments? Shade was scared. And yet...

The black and red bae continued away. Maybe she would find her courage to meet the rest of the family some were in the fruitlands. Was it even possible? Would anything good come of her ignoring her conscience? Shade wondered as she continued to look over her shoulder.

Some how, her amber eyes pierced through the darkness that was the world in darkness. Was it a family trait? The dark scared her. Her mother told her she would grow out of it; everyone in her family embraced the dark… Everyone had some kind of black part of them. Did she? Would she grow into it? Maybe… she was so young.

Shade already adept on her legs broke into a run leaving her tree behind for the first time. She knew she would be back in a few hours. She just needed to find courage.

Viktor lurked in the shadows, his stomach growling uncomfortably. He hadn't eaten in quite some time, and the smell of freshly-hatched foals was a tantalizing treat to his nostrils.

He moved quickly and silently behind the many fruit trees, licking his lips at every turn. The fruits looked appetizing... if he ate fruit. No, he would have to wait until they were hatched to eat them.

The Aeri stallion flicked his long, lizard-like tail from side to side slowly, brushing it up against the trees as he passed. He wanted to make a mark on some of these, to prove that he, the great Chinese Fireball Viktor, had been there. Foals in the future would brag that their tree had a Viktor marking; others would try to replicate it, but only be teased even more. He grinned, revealing a row of pointed, pearly-white teeth. His weapons.

Then he remembered his other, most dangerous weapons. He blew a thin stream of fire from his lips, singeing the grass nearby and nearly laughing when he heard the angry hiss of an animal bound off into the darkness.

Viktor was rather proud of himself. He thought himself to be the most feared, probably the only, dragon in these parts.

And this dragon was hungry.

Something sounded nearby... what was it? Shade ducked behind a massive tree. It sounded odd, but Shade hadn't been alive that long maybe it was normal. She peeked around the tree cautiously; there was a weird mark on it. What could have made it?

Things were so strange in the world... Would it ever bee normal?

Shade walked forward not understanding what she followed was a hungry Dragon Aeri. She slunk around going shadow to shadow the only thing's glowing were her bright alluring amber eyes she had inherited from her mother and grandmother.

A bust of flame appeared in front of her face. Shade shrieked in surprise and ducked behind another tree. What’s that? She wondered franticly who honestly could have done that? How could any nequus have done that? Mother hadn’t said anything about this. Maybe she didn’t know? So many thoughts raced through the young fillies mind as she started to panic.

“Who’s there?” she piped up from behind the tree.

Viktor stood stock-still. He had to sneak up on his prey; he had been granted the great gift of weapons, of course, but sometimes these weapons weighed him down. His wings, amazing for flying, hindered him when he ran. His fire breath stopped him from doing many things, like breathing with his mouth open without emitting clouds of dark smoke.

He crept through the dense undergrowth, his tail whipping wildly now. He was so close to his prey, so close...

Then he heard it call out. Damn, he was caught. Growling slightly, he spread his wings and emerged into the light. His dark, scaly coat glinted in the light, and his smoky breath was much more prominent.

"Does it matter?" he barked, a strange Bulgarian accent tinting another few. "What's it to you?" He narrowed his golden eyes, daring anything smaller than he was to emerge; he felt his stomach rumble again. He had to eat soon.

The Aeri stallion growled. "Show yourself!" he shouted, scaring a few birds from the fruit trees around him.

Shade was suddenly petrified and she didn't know why. She was so scare... a growl. It sounded more like a beast than a nequus. She shouldn't have left her and her brother's tree.

"I... I I'd just like to know." she stuttered, there was something about this thing she refused to look at. She wanted her mother. Tears began to well up in her beautiful amber eyes as she peeked around the large tree. She finally saw the one before her. It was a different breed of nequus. She had heard there was more than one. But he seemed scary.

Shade looked around suddenly as the birds scattered "I'm right here." she said quietly only her head was around the tree. What should she do? He looked hungry and she was so small.

"Are you going to eat me?" she asked trying to gather her courage. Courage was scarce for someone as small as her. Shade walked out entirely from behind the tree to face the dragon. He had a funny accent she had noticed, after she had gotten over the initial shock of meeting some one who wanted to eat her.

If she was finished... already... barely hatching from her fruit she would act like her grandfather and not run. None of her family excluding her own father and her auntie would run.

"What's your name?" she asked at least she would know who ate her. And he would know who he ate "I'm Shade." Said the little amber eyed filly.

"It doesn't matter to you," snapped the Dragon Aeri, scowling as he moved closer to the little filly. She was much too small to eat; it wouldn't be worth the trouble of killing her whole family to just eat her. He was much too tired to go searching for her whole family after only half of what he usually ate!

"I was going to eat you," he said finally, his Bulgarian accent becoming a little more prominent. "But you're too small." Besides, she seemed like a little innocent; he couldn't bring himself to eat an innocent. Now, if she had killed in the past...

"How old are you, Shade?" inquired Viktor, a growl and the all-important flame ingredients beginning to form in his throat. He was growing rather frusterated; conversing with a foal?! What had gotten into him?

He turned away from her, flicking his long tail out behind him and lashing savagely at a tree. "Nevermind. Forget you ever saw me," he spat, heading off into the dense trees again. Then he stopped.

"Don't forget you ever saw me," he hissed, not turning around. "Say I scared the living daylights out of you. You only escaped with your life because I saw bigger and better prey. Got it?"

Shade took a step back as he came closer. He was massive much larger than se had originally thought. Relief swept over her when he said he wasn't going to eat her. Too small, she was glad for that. Just once... she was glad she was small. Her brother was larger than she was. Still She decided to finally stand her ground, she would try not to shrink back if she could.

"I'm only a few days old." she answered his question. She couldn't see a point of not.

Shade watched as he turned to leave. She was ready to bolt home and sleep exhausted. Her relative’s weren’t so scary after an encounter like this. She nodded at his first comment then a second happened soon, like he needed to save face or something. Even if she didn't know what it meant.

"O..ok" she said "Got it."
