Haruto but what about Filk, remember Nina from 2.. she was obsessed with him. a person can only take so much betore killing thier pursuer or giving in. In that case, Nina'd better run because she'd be dead. Good thing too. She was annoying.

Well if Gremio lived, he and the Hero would run off on an adventure....I know this for sure...Why? Because...if you meet certain conditions.... GREMIO DOES NOT DIE!

....Exactly how did half of this thread become so dedicated into the disturbed psyche of a possible Flik/Humphrey pairing, exactly? You guys are scary. eek
Regarding the topic (yes, we're going back on topic here, people!), I believe that if the characters who died didn't die, that would make Suikoden lose its essense totally. It's a known fact that the Tenkai stars reap their strength and courage from the death of their loved ones (as been demonstrated by the previous games), or at least the betrayal. If Odessa didn't die, Tir would never have gotten a chance to become leader of the Liberation Army. If Nanami didn't die, Riou would may have never summoned the last ounce of courage to go all-out on Highland. And so forth.
Thus, Suikoden -wouldn't- be Suiko without the deaths of the characters. Simple as that. cool

Riou already had the courage to fight... but nanami couldn't help but try and stop the fight between him and jowy. and HEY! I happen to be a Flik fangirl so stop making him gay! scream
