~This is a thread to post about any obscure or unheard of anime/games you know of and wish to spread, or wondering if someone else in the world has actually heard of it.~

Since this subforum is usually pretty baron I wish this to be a very open-ended thread where if you can't think about anything particularly rare to add you can just talk about oldies or purposefully bring up something common under the guise of being an example of something un-obscure. ninja

I'll start. Online or off I have pretty much met no-one familiar with Ogre Slayer (as mentioned in the S 1 thread I think). It's a great OVA, and an even better manga. User Image
It deals with pretty dark themes and is best for the psychological aspect that shows the generally not-so-good side of humans. Unfortunately of about 12 or so volumes only 2 have ever come to the stated, which is sad cause it's a really good series. Probably the biggest hindrance to it's success were timing and presentation. It was presented as an 18+ plus manga/anime (rightfully so in this country), at a particular time when anime had not yet reached the level of popularity it has today. So I'm sure plenty of people mistook it for hentai, and the bad cover art scared off the rest. I'll scan and post one of my fav chapter to share, so sorry for the poor quality ahead of time sweatdrop

Okay I'd like to apologize again for the poor quality. It's an old rare book so I tried hard to efficiently scan it and not break it at the same time. Success in the not breaking part, but some words near the spine come out really blurry.

Also since it's older there's 2 things you should note. 1. It's read from left to right like a traditional western comic. 2. The translation isn't great. It's readable, but they put the emphasis is on the wrong words sometimes and they phrase things cornily, but meh, what can ya do? Hope you guys like it!

I would add that things in Ogre Slayer aren't necessarily as simple as they seem. Ogres can be used as a general metaphor for the darkness in people's hearts. It can be viewed as a story of redemption, the protagonist on a quest to rid the darkness within himself by vanquishing it in others. Of course as the big ogre points out it's an impossible task since everything is dual-natured, you can't defeat evil because it's in everything, and certainly not by using a form of evil yourself. So rather than focusing on the main character the stories are usually tragedies that follow the random people he encounters hunting ogres.

wel i thikn naroto is petty obscur nd it s relly good it abowt ninja n sasukay r hawt lol!

As for obscure games, I'd have to say Okage. It was a really sweet game. It was easy and short, but it had a lot of heart. And it was cute. The graphics, the characters, the weird things you could say/do... It was a quality game. Hard to find these days, sadly. Also, Shadow of Destiny (or Shadow of Memories for the PAL version) doesn't get enough love. That game is tight.

That manga sure is cool 3nodding .

Okage, never heard of it and it sounds cool. I've also heard of Shadow of Destiny, that's the game where the hero transform into somekind of demon?

Anyways, I know lots of obscure games.
Specially the kiddy ones wink

Creatures (PAL PS)
-Some kind of baby-sitting game and simulation (sims) but, you're taking care of some monkey looking creatures in which you take a role of some fairy! rofl rofl

Virtual Amazing Sea Monkeys (PAL PS, Same creator?)
-Some kind of puzzle game where you control monkeys (with webfoot, yes you heard it right).

Vanguard Bandits (PS)
-Tactical RPG. The game consists mainly of Robots which has cool designs, but once you get your hands on playing, you wouldn't even bother playing it anymore.

Brave Saga (JAP PS)
-Robots again, Tactics. Can't understand but I could play it xd . It's also written on the cover "Battle of the 20th Century"... thinking year 2000, battle robots will already exist... Hmm...

Well, that's all I can think of off my collection of weird games whee .

Lol, I was about to mention Shadow of Destiny too blaugh I only got one ending no matter how many playthrough's I did though sweatdrop Never played Okage but I've seen it everywhere. Maybe I'll pick it up in a bargain bin 3nodding Any details on the story or is it impossible without spoilers? (or perhaps a game that is fun without one like SSB)

Not really, in the game you are killed in the opening, and are brought back to life by a Humunculus. (I KNOW I spelled that one wrong) The object of the game is to alter your fate and prevent your death by time slipping in exchange for going into the past and insuring the humunculi comes into existence. It's a real trip. xd

I got all the endings in Shadow of Destiny. I also completed the game in a total of 45 minutes. Hellz yeah.

As for Okage's plot, basically it's about this kid who's shadow is possessed by an evil king. The plot itself is weak, but the game is just so adorable it's hard to notice. Basically: you fight and kill bosses in dungeons.

Oh I now remember! I've seen Okage before. Though I didn't decided to buy and try it. gonk

Kind of like Okami I guess.

Oh yeah, although the manga has been made popular as of late, many don't know of the short Phoenix: Karma Chapter OVA they made. It's pretty condensed considering they fit many pages into a 40 or so minute episode thing, but still very enjoyable. I don't have any links, and I own it on VHS so I can't post it myself, but yeah, it's worth a mention! 3nodding

In case nobody has even heard of the manga the basic story is about a wood carver looking for the legendary phoenix for inspiration (and obviously so he can carve it). Many things happen along the way making him stray from his original intention but they all tie together by the end making a very dramatic and ironic end. It sounds dull, but that's only because I can't give away any details with major spoilers, it's ctually pretty cool.
