History on the Kong-man

User Image

Donkey Kong, sometimes abbreviated DK, is a Nintendo video game character that first appeared in a 1981 video game of the same name. He is a large, muscular gorilla, weighing 800 pounds. Since the 1994 Donkey Kong game remake, he is depicted wearing a red necktie with a DK emblem. In an interview at E3 2001, the creator of Donkey Kong, Shigeru Miyamoto, said that when naming the character he had confused the word "donkey" with "stupid", and assumed that to an American audience, 'Donkey Kong' would clearly mean 'stupid ape'.

The Creater

User Image

Once again, we see Shigeru Miyamoto as the creater of another great game series.

He is one of the world's most celebrated game designers, and is often called the father of modern video gaming. His titles are characterized by refined control-mechanics and imaginative worlds in which the players are encouraged to discover things for themselves, as well as basic storylines, which had been almost unheard of before he introduced one of the first, featuring Mario.

Milton Supman

Soupy got his unusual nickname from his family. His older brothers had been nicknamed "Hambone" and "Chicken Bone"; young Milton was dubbed "Soup Bone," which was later shortened to "Soupy." When he became a disc jockey, he began using the stage name "Soupy Hines." After he became established, it was decided that "Hines" sounded too close to Heinz, which made a line of soups at that time, and so Soupy chose the surname "Sales" after comedian Chic Sale.

Supman was born in Franklinton, North Carolina to Sadie and Irving Supman (1890-?). Irving had emigrated from Hungary in 1895, and was working as a drygoods merchant. Milton had two siblings, Leonard Supman (1918- ) and Inice Supman (1921- ). Milton is a graduate of Huntington High School in Huntington, West Virginia and Marshall University. While attending college, he also performed in nightclubs as a comedian, singer and dancer.
