8D Awesome, I have been unleashed accepted into the guild. Small intro: I'm Caryn. My town is Village 'cause I couldn't fit "Silent Hill" and my FC is 1375.4438.3551. So far my favourite neighbor is Kid Cat but he moved to my friend's town.
QUESTION!

I was told of a rumour of a map where your house is on an island. Any facts to back this up or is it just a rumour?

Well, Welcome!

Depending on the layout of your river, it could fork split, forming an island with two mouths at the ocean. And depending on the spacing of that island, your house can wind up on that island.
