__penguin__ Anyone know how to play in the altissimo register on the alto sax? question Yes it takes lots of control over your emboucher and playing overtones helps BIIIIG TIME! There is no quick way to do them and i suggest to only step into it if you are going to have need for it in some practical way like in a piece or improvised solo.

yeah, it does take quite a bit of air for bari. If you think that's bad, try a bass O_O (they're wicked cool by the way)

I kinda feel sorry for the 2 boys in the Sax section with me that play Bari and Harmony ever so often, they aren't strong enough to hold their Saxes with out their neckstraps. >.> I'm rather happy I'm still an Alto...

I play an alto sax. I'm just in my first year, so i'm not that professional yet but i'm going to continue it in band for the rest of my high school years. A couple days ago i just bought a new alto sax that is made partly out of silver. Which, will rust easily, but it produces a cool nice sound! I can't wait to play on it. I'm also going to music camp in the summer! ( with, no duh, my precious alto sax)

Spurple Silver Eye Snake Miangel Silver Eye Snake er...I have an alto, but I don't know how to play it yet (I'll be learning that this year). I've been wanting to play it forever though ^^ Hm...I feel so out of place/stupid. I don't suppose you would have any tips for me, would you? sweatdrop Hm... well, the only advice I can really give is just keep at it when you start to learn. Maybe ask for some help from a fellow alto player. What else have you played before? I play the...*hides* Flute heart Hey, don't worry about it! I'm a flute player, too! I switched to sax to be in jazz band (my first jazz band class is in... forty minutes, too!). Anyway, playing flute first makes learning sax pretty easy. A lot of the fingerings are very similar/the same. The only trouble you might have is with key (alto's in E flat, right?) and with putting the reed on. Make sure you get someone to teach you how to put on the reed, because from what I've heard, if you put it on wrong they split REALLY fast, and that's bad 'cause they're so expensive. -_-;; But yeah. If there's anything else you want to know, ask, and I'll answer to the best of my abilities - I've only been playing sax ten months, so.... ^^;; Gotta get ready to go... see ya! i want to be in a jazz band i play the alto and bari sax

Heyy! My request to join the guild finally passed! (It's been a week O_o) So my first post shall be in the SAX THREAD! <3
Well, I started on Flute, then switched to Alto because I wanted to try something new. Then I went to Bari in my 8th grade year when I thought I was good enough too (it was awesome! xd ) then I tried out for the school district's Jazz Band (Elementary~middle school) and made it in on First Alto! *smiles* Our Jazz Band's the only one like it in this half of California.
Anyway, I've graduated...and am still instrument-less...but I still love playing music (mostly Jazz <3) and am going to join Band in HS and become a pro jazz musician...*smiles*
Wow, that was an odd introduction >.<
