Hello! ^u^ *waves*

*waves back*
How are you?

Good! Catching a little break while the baby naps xD
Trying to pick out the giftie for my Anon Santa, hehe!

How about you? ^^

Pretty good. I finally got around to caroling because I looked at the items and they'd be worth having. And the poinsettia dress is really pretty. I still have to finish my mom's Christmas present. And we have a Christmas Eve party after church tonight.

Oh it is really pretty! <3
I saw that you were going to knit her a scarf ^^ That sounds like fun! I made crocheted throws for my family last year and one for a friend who gave it to his mom xD Knit gifts are fairly fast and fun once you get into the groove, hehe! And they're always more heartfelt too. <3

Especially on a loom, I think it's pretty fast. I really couldn't find any nice scarves that would match her coat and making one is a lot cheaper anyway.

Oh cool! ^u^
I'm glad it's working out better this way! I know she'll love it! heart

From: An anonymous benefactor
Message:
Warmth completely surrounded you as the soft blanket encompassed your body like a cocoon. Sleep tugged away at your eyes and clouded your mind from any true thought. The whispers of a dream rested just on the edge of the unconscious as it waited for you to return back into its land once more. Christmas day was long since over. It had been filled with luxurious feasts and richly covered presents that had rested below a great emerald pine tree with an assortment of colorful ornaments hanging from its branches. Of course, these richly wrapped presents soon had their wrappings discarded across the room as if a tornado had blown through. Family was as family always was. You loved some, but there were others that you would be content had they not been present. Nonetheless, you had had a pleasant day and sleep had quickly beckoned you into its folds. You had thought it a deep sleep, which was why you were presently wondering why you were awake.

With a half opened eye, you checked the time. A few minutes shy of midnight. You closed your eye once more, snuggled into the comfort of your pillow, and tried to fall again into the enticing black ocean of sleep. You hugged the blanket closer to your body in an attempt to keep warm. Your room was beginning to feel a little chilly. In the hallway, a grandfather clock ticked away as it kept time. Again, one of your eyes creaked open as you listened to the steady ticking of the clock. You sat up on an elbow and stared at the door to your room. You knew for a fact that that hallway had no clock in it let alone a grandfather clock. Puzzled now, you stood up and dared the cold air of the room. Sneaking silently to the door, you turned the knob, and stared into the hallway.

Red carpet graced the ground with golden boarders that swirled about playfully. An oak grandfather clock towered as it rested in front of the wall of the hallway. Gold candleholders with pure white candles that were alit with orange flames rested on the walls every few yards down the hall. The hallway was dim, but the candles gave enough light for one to tread across it. Your mouth fell open as you stared in silent wonder. This was not your hallway. The oak brown door fell silently shut behind you as you walked into the strange new hallway. Perhaps it was the side effects of sleep. Perhaps it was the comfortable warmth emitting from the room. Perhaps it was the sense of familiarity that made you not fear this strange new place.

You walked down the hallway where a door lay slightly ajar. Curiosity pushed you onward as well as the strong feeling that this was what you were suppose to do. The faint hint of a cool breeze tickled your nose and gently swept the hair from out of your face as you pulled open the rough oak door to look inside.

The smells of pine mixed with a hint of smoke greeted you first. A soft fire waved hello at you from its perch of logs inside the fireplace. In the corner of the room, an emerald green Christmas tree reached towards the ceiling with a golden star at its tip. It was similar to the one you had earlier but seemed richer and more luscious. Tinsel glittered in the light of the fire and handmade ornaments shined. The glow of multicolored Christmas lights playfully dyed the tree and its ornaments with different shades of color. Underneath the tree, presents rested like children tucked underneath a blanket as a mother bid them a good sleep.

However, these few things were not what caught your main attention. A large oak table in the middle of the room was what had stolen away your sight. You walked closer to it for a better look.

On top of the table was a small Christmas town. The type you would see in the windows of a toy store. Fake white fluff snow glittered with purple and blue sparkles as a base for the town. On top, small hand crafted porcelain homes glowed yellow at the windows from a light within. Small black gas streetlights from an age well passed lined the white frosted pebbled streets of the town.

You circled the table looking at the large assortment of homes. Each one was completely unique. In the streets, miniature wooden soldiers in blue uniforms with black hats, white breeches, and black knee high boots were scattered about as guards. Small wooden people decorated the town as well. Like the houses, each person was unique in some way. Red sleighs with horses rested in the middle of the roads with their drivers holding tight to their reigns.

Walking towards the far edge of the table, you continued your tour of the miniature Christmas town. A mock red-bricked building with a clock on its face seemed to be the largest building in the town. A white light glowed behind the face of the clock that was frozen a few minutes before midnight. Just in front of the stairs, leading up to the building, a soldier stood alone and silent. Unlike the rest, his coat was a bright red and the details on him were much finer then the others. You leaned closer to look at him. A saber rested at his waist and his black hair was partly covered by a black hat much similar to that of a nutcracker's. His breeches were a pure white and led down to black boots. His stance was that of a soldier at attention. Tilting your head slightly as you stared, you had a feeling that he was completely alert as he guarded the large building with the clock.

A glint of gold in the corner of your eye caught your attention and you straightened up to look at the back of the building. A gold key, one used by ages passed, was pushed into the back of the building. You pulled it out and stared at the small key in your hand. It most likely worked the clock in the building.

The air around you began to grow colder, but you did not noticed. Your attention was on that key. On impulse, you placed it back into the building once more and began to turn it. It turned easily and you wound it up a few full circles before letting it go.

Just then, a cool wind blasted against you so suddenly that you stumbled forward. You began to loose your balance. In horror, you realized you were going to hit the small town. You closed your eyes bracing your hands in front of you for impact. But you did not hit the table. Your hands continued to fall and fall. Your body fell forward. Your body hit the ground. For a second, you stayed frozen where you were as your body tried to comprehend what had happened. The ground was filled with something soft that had cushioned your fall. You opened your eyes and stared down at the fluffy white substance below you. Your pajamas were littered with small blue and purple sparkles from the white substance. Shakily, you stood up on the uneven white substance and looked around you.

A small gasp escaped your lips as you stared at the porcelain buildings that surrounded you. You were in the small town. A small red sled being pulled by a horse pulled past you and the driver gave a smile as he waved in greeting as his sled passed. A few people hurried past as they made for their homes. This could not be...possible? Awestruck, you walked onto the pebbled road looking at everything around you. Everything was in finer details and you could even see Christmas trees as well as people moving inside the small houses.

The loud ringing of a clock as it tolled the midnight hour made you jump. Whirling around, you stared up at the clock on the face of the large building down the street from where you were. From here, you could now see that it was actually the Courthouse of the town.

A figure in red approached you causing you to look away from the large tolling clock. The guard in red that you had observed earlier smiled at you as he approached. Gold buttons lined his uniforms and you could now see that his cheeks were slightly rosy. A red stripe lined the sides of his white breeches and his black boots shined from a recent polishing. His eyes were a light red as they sparkled as he smiled. The guard's hair playfully escaped from underneath the hat in an attempt to try and cover his eyes.

He stopped a foot away from you before doing a small bow in greeting and you realized that he smelt slightly of peppermint. Your mouth refused to cooperate properly, but somehow you manage to say hello as the young guard straightened up from his bow. You could not help but ask where exactly you were, but what you truly meant was what had happened? How was this all even possible?

The guard listened to your words and nodded as if understanding your true question. He pointed with a white-gloved hand to the clock down the street before making turning motions with his hand. He then pointed back to you.

As he made these motions, you realized that he could not speak. Paying close attention, you decided that he was trying to tell you that you had turned the key for the clock tower and that was what had caused this.

You began to ask another question, but stopped mid sentence when he suddenly stiffened and looked over your shoulder. A frown flickered across his face and he stole away your hand into his own. You yelped slightly in surprise as he quickly hurried you down the street towards the Courthouse. You stumbled to get your feet underneath you. Glancing back, you spied what had caused the soldier to worry.

Grey matted fur with jagged yellow teeth that was rotting in multiple places. Red beady eyes that revealed nothing but hunger and malice. Rats. They were the size of small cars. They hissed and darted in the street of the Christmas town. Your breath caught as you watched them claw and swipe at the entrances to the houses. Blue uniformed soldiers ran at them with raised sabers in hand and the sounds of battle quickly took to the air. A foul, rotten odor assaulted your nose and you felt like gagging. The only relief was that soft sweet smell of peppermint from the soldier leading you away from the battle.

Fear made you hurry even faster as you watched a soldier be flung yards back from a single hit from a rat. The battles around you distracted you to a point that you ran straight into the red uniformed guard, almost knocking the two of you over, when he came to a sudden stop. You quickly said an apology but any further words were halted when you saw why the soldier had stopped. Before you, perhaps the largest of all the rats you had seen thus far, was a rat with black greasy fur. Its crimson eyes stared at you and the soldier. Upon its head was a filthy copper crown covered in grime and other things from the sewers. The foul smell was even stronger now to a point that your eyes were beginning to sting and water.

The sound of a sword being unsheathed rang out as the soldier drew his saber. With a hand, he motioned for you to back up. You stumbled away from the hideous rat and watched as the soldier bravely charged the creature. The rat swiped at him with its claws and the soldier dived to avoid the hit. With an upward slash, the soldier dyed his blade crimson with the rat's blood. The rat howled in pain and its tail whipped around out towards the solider. The soldier tried to move away but the tail slapped against his face causing him to fall to the ground. His hat fell off his head rolling about in the fake snow as the solider lay still from shock for a moment on the ground.

The rat moved towards him, its tail moving back and forth menacingly. The soldier shakily stood up from his position. His cheek was bright red and his black hair tussled. Again the soldier slashed out at the rat, but the rat was more cautious now. It kept the distance between them and used its tail to attack. The soldier blocked the strikes as he continued to try and get close to the creature. Blood showered the air like rain as the saber cut through the thick hairy tail of the rat as it had whipped out to strike the soldier once more. The resounding shriek was enough to make you cover your ears with your hands.

The rat clutched its tail in complete agony. The soldier took the opportunity and moved in with a lung. The rat grabbed the soldier by the throat with a snarl before beginning to squeeze. The solider struggled as he grappled at his throat with a hand while trying to slice the rat with the sword in his other hand. However, the rat had too strong a grip; the soldier was already beginning to weaken.

You looked around frantically as you searched for something to help the soldier with. The only things you could use were the rocks that made up the street. Grabbing a fairly large rock, you moved to the side of the rat and threw it as hard as you could. It smacked into the rat's head causing the beast to take an off balance step to the side. It hissed as its head whirled around towards you. It dropped the choking soldier and approached you. You stumbled back looking for something to defend yourself. You had not planned this far ahead. You quickly leaned down, got another rock, and threw it at the rat. It dodged with another hiss before rushing towards you. Your eyes widened in surprise as you tried to get out of the way of the charging rat.

A blur of red moved in front of you and the rat's charge came to an abrupt stop. You stared in silence and even the world around you seemed to grow silent for a few seconds. The soldier stood in front of you, his sword hilt deep into the chest of the rat. The rat shuddered one last time before falling back onto the ground. For a few seconds, the soldier stood there breathing hard as he stared down at the rat. Eventually, he turned back to you, a look of concern written across his face.

You nodded to show that you were fine and a giant smile lit his face. He held out his gloved hand once more and you took it. You hurried with the soldier to the Courthouse. With the king of the rats defeated, the others seemed to have fled. Around you, wounded and tired soldiers rested. The people in the homes were beginning to come out to help with the battle's aftermath.

Finally, you reached the stairs to the Courthouse. Wearily, the two of you climbed the stairs and reached the double doors. The soldier turned to you and smiled once more. He motioned to the door and then to you. You looked at the door and then back to him. His smile was sad and he bowed low as if in apologetic farewell. You looked at the doors and shook your head. You did not want to leave this place. Not yet. Again his sad smile. He tapped his wrist where a wristwatch would have been. You did not have any time left. You had to go back home.

The soldier moved to the double doors and pulled them open for you. Inside, you could see your bedroom. Sadness washed over you and the soldier seeing this wrapped you in a sudden hug. He stayed there for a few seconds before pulling away. He nodded his head slightly and motioned to the door once more. You swallowed hard and bit your lip as you stared back into the doorway. You could feel the soldier watching you as you forced your body to step forward and through that doorway.

Your room was dark and the air cool. You turned around and stared behind you expecting to see the soldier. The only thing there now was the wall to your room. Everything was silent and still. You walked to the hallway but found it to be your own. Sadness filled you once more as you closed the door to the hall and stared back at your bed. You walked over to it and sat on it. A small glint on your dresser caught your attention. Blinking, you moved closer to it. Your hands shook as you picked it up. On your dresser, next to a note, was a small golden key. The one that you had used earlier. The metal was cool against your skin and you rubbed it between your fingers.

Eventually, you pick up the note and read:

"Although the door to the imagination must close at times, it can be opened again as long as you want it to. Merry Christmas, Amu. I hope you enjoy this story that was a small twist to a classic tale."
