I think "Lunch" is probably the school time they're talking about... very little posting ever happens during class, after all, unless people are finishing something up.
Of course, we do have new members... =D Wouldn't be bad to hear their opinions as well. We do have characters outside of Yasogami students, after all, and "while our normal characters are busy in class" is a good time to post with our other characters (thus, not trying to post as too many people at once, but still getting time for our other characters).
...
On the other hand, the newbies don't have too many other characters, so that probably doesn't mean much at the moment...

Anywho, class time could be when the new students are introduced, so there would still be somethings that could be posted about.

So I'm guessing the new students should all be at the faculty room right now? I assume the teachers bring them to their classes to introduce them?

@Ere: Nobody plays the teachers, so you're welcome to use them to introduce your character in class at any point you like. At least, I think nobody plays any of the teachers...it's been a while since we played any school time to remember them. XD

I think it makes more sense to just go "I've been in class all along, but I never bothered to hang out with any of you until now."
Instead of "Class, here's our tenth new transfer student this year...".
