Faete's stall was right nex tto the area he was in and he snorted arrogantly then reached out and attempted to take a slice out of Sevilin's arm. You! What in the name of the elvish gods are you doing out here?

Zykariel wandered through the stables, petting at various horses until he picked the very one that had thrown Piper earlier that day. "This one."

Zahara glanced over and shook her head. "Nope, he's too young to be ridden just yet, at least for enjoyment. He's still in his training. Pick one of these over here." Let's get the child away from the young, inexperienced ones. That would just cement Sevilin's opinion on the four legged creatures.

He frowned and was about to argue but nodded and walked over to the spot she was suggesting he pick from. "That one." It was a Zephmare whose coloring was quite Nightmarish in shade and such. Of course he had the ability to change his coloring anytime he chose but for now he was going with the black look. "Can I ride him?"

She nodded and led the stallion out of his stall, taking him over to get him all tacked up. She tightened straps and made sure he was all set before lifting Zykariel into the saddle and holding him there. "Alright, now just hold on so your father can come mount up behind you. Sevilin?"

"You are too little to use a bow. thier designed for people larger, adn thus even if you coudl get it to work, you wouldn't be able to hit or aim properly. and she's mad at me, not you. and I'll talk with her tonight about it. and she'll get a lacture about the doors too."

A slight grin.

"Well, mom also got thrown while trying to break in her horses too, so she's allowed to be cranky."

He jumped and frowned, almost falling over his own shoes as Faete tried to take his arm off. "Stupid horse..." Glaring at the creature before pushign off the wall some and walking a good distance away from it. See? They always tried to eat him. But his attention turned back to his son as he had apparently picked one out and Zahara had tacked him up. Oh gods. But he walked over and managed himself up on the horse behind his son. Why did he agree to these things. He was trying to act tough but his eyes were telling a completely different story.

He frowned. "Not if I had a little one...just like you gave me a little sword." See? That made perfect sense to him and mom had more or less said so too...just not in those words. He gave an exapserated sigh and a roll of his eyes just like his father would have done. "How many times do you have to tell her to let someone else do it?" Wasn't children mimicking their parents a funny thing? Though he forwned then. "Does this mean I can't do the sword stuff anymore?" Because when mom was angery....she usually had a bit of sway over things. But of course...she was his mother and he couldn't help but worry too. "Did she get hurt bad this time?" Little worried look to accompany.

Faete snorted again and made a sound that sounded suspiciously like a snicker before he stood at attention just in case Zahara wandered by.

Zahara met Sevilin's eyes for a moment as she handed over the reins and placed them in his palms. She checked one last time to make sure everything was on and tight and they were both situated. The child was all excited and she quelled the urge to reach out and ruffle his hair. Sevilin looked like he was on his way to the executioner's scaffold. She moved around to the other side of the horse to stow the picnic basket and whispered covertly, "If it becomes too much I'll take him with me and you can meet us wherever we go."

Zykariel was indeed excited, barely restraining the urge to bounce around in his saddle but he knew better than that. He wanted to hold the reins but if Daddy wanted to do it then he could. He was just thrilled that they were riding! "Let's gooo Zara. Get on your horse so we can leave."

She chuckled and walked back down to pull Faete out of his stall, nuzzling the horse and patting his flank before feeding him a bit of sugar. "Come on boy, we're takign the others out for a spin." Thus leading him out and mounting up, she preferred bareback, before looking back at them. "Ready boys. Sit up straight and you'll be fine." She nudged Faete forward and to the side so she could watch teh other horse and mkae sure they were okay.

He barely nodded to Zahara's words...not that he would take the advice. The boy had picked these two things for a reason and Sevilin knew it...though he didn't know exactly why yet. But here he was on a horse, his arms around his son's waist as he was holding the reins in a deathgrip. The child would be disappointed if Sevilin jumped ship on this. He'd just have to suffer.

So he swallowed the lump in his throat and took a breath as Zahara walked up on Faete beside them and then he looked down to Zykariel. "Okay so you're in charge now...let's go." Please oh please don't kick the horse and make it gallop.
PostPosted: Sat Dec 23, 2006 9:08 pm

Zykariel had been on a horse before and rather enjoyed the activity. He wormed his hands in between his father;s so he too had a grip on them and lightly jerked them to tell the horse to move forward. It woudln't take much really and once Faete moved on the other horse would probably follow.

Zahara watched her son, pleased with his posture and the way he was handling the reins. He had picked up a few htings from her it appeared. "Come on Zykariel, you want to go fast, right? Nudge him lightly in the sides and he'll speed up." She demonstrated with Faete though reined him in shortly after she let him go and circled back to wait for Zykariel to do the same.

He nodded and his face showed concentration and he lightly nudged the stallion's sides giggling happily as the horse was jolted into a canter. It was brisk but not too fast and he was thrilled.

She easily matched their pace, slowly urging them to speed up little by little as the horses took off down the path adn into the Underdark. "Onto the river then?" Maybe by the end of it she could get Sevilin to gallop without completely freaking out.

He was going to be sick. Not from motion but from the anxiety he was feeling...he hadn't had a lot of constant anxiety in the last four or five years so when a lot of it came back...well he reacted with a vengence. If he could get remotely pale, he would. Trotting was bad, cantering was bad, and he had noticed the speed increase. So he concentrated on his breathing as he son was having a grand old time. "Yeah the river..." Trying to appear that he was okay to conversate. Besides...once there they could get off for a bit.

"A little bow wouldn't be very effective either. some things it is better to wait. nto to mention when your bigger, you'll be stronger, adn your arrows will go farther anyway. As for the sword stuff...probably not. and no, I don't think so. but I'll be keeping a close eye on her. if you want, you need to help mom as much as you can."

Zahara didn't realize that Sevilin was as bad off as he actually was or she likely wouldn't have urged her mount to increase his speed and thereby Sevilin and Zykariel's. But she was caught up in it just like her son and she wanted nothing more than to give Faete his head and feel the Nightmare's powerful body move beneath her. Pity she coudn't right now. They toured the Underdark for a while, she letting Zykariel more or less lead since he proclaimed to know where the river was. He was going to the wrong way many times but she wasn't goign to say that. Instead she would randomly point something out to take them back to the correct path and make htim think that it had been his idea to go that way.

Zykariel chose these moments to start to put his plan into action and he pushed his horse a little closer to Zahara's to engage her in conversation. He asked her about her potions and if she liked living with Malikhai and PIper and htem and if Malikhai ever played with her. He chattered excitedly about Malikhai's new sword and all the many things that were important to a toddler. But after a long while the lake finally came into view and he glanced at both his parents and smiled smugly. "See? told you I coudl find it." He sat up a little straighter grinning and waited for Daddy to get down and help him as well.

She had responded to each one of his questions with a quiet answer at first and then in more depth sometimes even telling him a story that he might find amusing and more than once laughing with him. Truly enjoying this time with her son and his father, she was almost disappointed when the river came into view. But she climbed down off Faete and let him get some refreshment and cool down though he was hardly winded. That little ride had been nothing but a warmup for him but it had positively brightened the child's day adn that was what mattered to her. She patted Faete's side gratefully and then busied herself pulling out a blanket and whatnot to prepare for a snack. They could take a small break and then go a little bit further out before heading back home. "Come on you two, let's eat." THus laying out sandwiches and fruit on the blanket for them to pick as they would.

He had that skeptical look and blinked at his father, before giving a rub to his eyes then blinking. And then that disappointed sigh that he was so good at...used it to manipulate the serfs a lot...and the disappointed look to. That figured that he wouldn't be able to do it anymore. "You shouldn't of told her daddy." Because now he couldn't do it. But he gave a nod. "I'll help." Because of course he'd do anything to help daddy out. "What do I gotta do?"

He took a moment to remember he could feel his fingers and thus slacked them on the reins and helped his son down off the horse...where he then more or less fell off of it as he was getting down, but he recovered himself before the boy noticed, took a deep breath or two and then then tried to look okay. "Yes yes you did. Good job Zykariel!" Encourage the child.

But he looked to Zahara, watching her a moment. Oh look she had that old look back to her somewhat...just happy and then that want to just relax with pleasant company. Or perhaps thats what he wanted to see...so after taking a moment to make sure his legs would support movement he walked over and plopped down. Hm, he felt like a third wheel to this party. Zykariel was doing most of the talking.

A slight grin.

"I ment probably not as in, you probably won't have to stop. but we'll see on that. however, if you want to help, why don't we get mom a nice drink, and maybe make her some dinner to take to her while she works on things."

carrying his son to the kitchen.

"your father still remembers how to cook some."

Setting his son down.

"Get me some angel hair noodles out of the pantry, and some of the brocolli and the crayfish out of the fridge."
PostPosted: Sat Dec 23, 2006 9:49 pm

Zykariel chose that moment to plop into his father's lap though he kept his gaze on his mother. He took the standwich she held out to him and took a nice big bite. "Daddy's gotten real good at making chicken nuggets and he even made pasketti the other night. It came out pretty good. He's been playing with me too. We built a huge tower taller than me!"

"Mmm." Why was he telling her all of these things? Oh right, he wanted to. She took a bite of her own sandwich as she passed one to Sevilin and settled more comfortably on the blanket. Well at least she knew that her son was eating well. "That's good to hear. I knew your father had hidden talents."

"And guess what Zara?! He said he might take me swimming one day soon too. I think that woul dbe lots of fun and since Malikhai's lake doesn't hve no mean fish in it, we can swim all day long!"

She raised an eyebrow at that. Sevilin hated water. It was a shock he would actually bathe though with his compulsive need to clean, she supposed it all balanced out. "Really? Well, that will be...fun..."

He nodded to his father as he was carried to the kitchen. That sounded like a good plan now didn't it. "We gotta put cinnamon on it." Because even he was old enough to know that cinnamon made mommy feel better....and daddy had told him. Though he did look surprised. "You can cook?" That was new to him...he'd never seen daddy cook.

But upon being set down he toddled to the pantry, pulling out what he was told to get...though one item at a time. Thus noddles, then back for brocolli. "I don't like brocolli." Sticking his tongue out at it as he carried it over like it was some nasty then then toddling to the fridge and pulling out the little things he knew were crayfish. "Okay now what?"

He gave somewhat of a smile to Zahara. "I've taken to trying out your recepies..." Yeah that was fun...but the boy had to eat and he couldn't make the same thing over and over and over. But he took the sandwich she offered, looked at it once and decided to eat it. And then the boy conitnued on what he was planning and he blinked. "Well...I told him I would try...because well... I can't swim really." tickling at the boy just because.
PostPosted: Sat Dec 23, 2006 10:09 pm

He giggled at the tickle and squirmed, showing a bit of the food in his mouth because that's what happened when you laughed in the middle of eating. "But you could learn. And you could help him Zara 'cause he's too big for me to hold in the water."

Ignoring the flash of food since she knew it was accidental she nodded and picked a piece of meat out of her sandwich. "I suppose we could do something like that." She listened to her son continue and then reached into the basket again and pulled out fruit and a bottle of wine. Oh yes, she had brought the wine. No glasses but at least a bottle or two of wine. She tilted hte bottle and took a nice long drink then pulled it down and offered it to Sevilin. "Really? I hope they're not too hard to follow and understand. Cooking really isn't hard when you break it down into smaller units. Much like potions."

"And it really doesn't taste bad. It's not as good as yours Zara but even Nym likes it. He's getting better, isn't that neat?"

What she was agreeing with him? But he only decided to give a chuckle and a snort, looking to her. "You just want to see me flail around in the water." Petting down his son's hair as it was doing that all over the place thing again. This was kinda nice...Zahara was somewhat being Zahara. His own sandwich was already gone and he looked at the bottle a moment. He shook his head declining for the moment.

"Well...it doesn't taste bad but it's not the greatest stuff in the world. Better than what I usually do anyway." But he shook his head. "A little on the bland side...you think someone would label thier spices and not leave other people to guess."
