@DS: Hey dude I'm starting this comic thingy on DA where it's pretty much a big a** OC battle comic, it'll be something of small project for me and I wanted to know if I could use one of your OC's in the comic.

basics of coloring:
determine a light source/sources
apply value accordingly
also be wary of reflective light, often times there is more than one light source.
work in different types of color schemes for flavor.
for applying values I usually find the darkest spots and define form from there. basically you're trying to define form with values.

Truth. A lot of people use the technique of using the darkest color as base color, and work their way up to lighter colors and highlights, rather than a middle color and adding shadow and highlights. This technique helps make the image look smoother. @Zen: Which one?

Was hoping to use Rufio. Don't know much about his backstory though so any info you have would be really appreciated, and possibly Snipes since he coincides with Rufio right?

Hmmm. I usually just slap down some base colours and work from there.
Most people say to use some form of lavender or something for shading, rather than black or a darker version of your base colour.
I have no idea what a value is. rofl And I might have just repeated everything Quax said. But I'm not sure. My excuse is that I'm Asian and I'm naturally inept at speaking English.
Also dodge + burn =/= shading/highlighting.

I'm sure the only colours mancat could make are white, varying shades of brown, and yellow.
Maybe some green, depending on what he eats. Oh, and red.
Huh, you could probably paint a full picture with those.
