A smirk.
"I'll deal with Mommy's wrath. I can handle it."
then a grin.
"Besides, now that you've been learning a few things, it proves my point that you are able to do just fine, and then she'll just have to accept that you are capable."
Broog frowned.
"Broog not nomaly allowed upsairs. Broog freighten peoples that mays wants to buys from da masterz. but mez will be ders if masterz lets broog comes upstairs."

"You know...I could solve your fog problem." Giving him a rather suggestive look with that statement to which he probably would never figure out the true meaning behind the statement. But then a little giggle. "Why? Looking to play pirate ship in the thick creepy fog on the big black water?" Another giggle to follow, rocking lightly on her heels in childish fashion befmore leaning against the mast. "It is rather calm and nice out here in an odd deserted way...we should of brough a picnic."
"So then that's your decision? That you're basically going to say 'screw you' to everyone and go live off in some little tucked away place all by yourself?"After all, no relationships meant none at all. Honestly was this woman that blind to what was happening around her? Obviously yes...yup Piper was trying to climb an iced tree...yet there she was...still trying. "And you're the one comparing yourself to me...mind you that I didn't say it. All I'm saying is that you may want to take a harder look around before making such drastic a decision...though whatever your decision may be in the end...remember, it's best not to double back on it. Though at the same time...you're going to miss out." Quiet for the moment...she really wasn't sure how to handle this this time. ZAhara was apparently throwing in the towel.
He sighed...why did things like this have to happen? "Yes, I like her...she's not a bad elf...just..." Oh what was the word he wanted that wouldn't be bad for the child to hear? "Foolish about some things." Better than calling her a stubborn hypocritical idiot he thought her to be sometimes. Though this got more and more interesting didn't it? Did he want her like Piper? In what way exactly? "Well...I want her to be like Piper for you, I know that's what you want." Ruffling his hair and standing up, taking the boy's hand. Needed to find Malik and pass these papers off. Though with his luck the child's questions would continue.
"You mean she won't say I'm too little anymore?" That was a wonderful thing! After all, that was her main argument when he wanted to do something...see, daddy didn't think he was too little. Obviously daddy was right then...mommy was just being overprotective. He heard that word a lot. "Then we won't have to hide doing it anymore? But that means I still have to do good at my others lessons too, right?" Hey if those got him this he'd actually pay attention more over trying to weedle cookies out of people.

Zahara rubbed her neck with her hand and then caught what she was doing and immediately dropped it. Now she was picking up his habits too? What was the plane coming to? "What do you want me to do Piper? They don't need me, I can see that as plain as day. Sevilin doesn't even like me and he certainly doesn't want me around his son. We all know how he feels about...women like me. Why would he want that corrupting Zykariel?" Gathering the reins in one fist she leaned on the saddlehorn and met Piper's gaze. "Would you want something like me around Malikhai?"
The child nodded thoughtfully. "Yes, she can be silly sometimes. It's kind of fun though. Like when she said you wouldn't want to be eaten. That was really silly." He was quiet for a moment before hanging back and more or less digging in his heels. "That's not what I asked Daddy. Do you want her to be like Piper?"
Lharika giggled quite happily. "Is that all Broog? Don't worry about that. It's going to be outside anyway. On the grounds. Sort of like a picnic thingy. Daddy Kieran and I have htem all the time. It'll be fun." She rocked happily on her heels. "So you'll come? Promise?"

And Piper blinked. "I let you be around him, ever notice that." Someone had really skewed views...and it wans't her. "You know...sometimes I think we're talking about two different people. So let's get on the same page alright. Do decribe to me who the hell you are because I don't know this other woman you're talking about." Okay, enough play time to be straight to the point. If she got stabbed in the back with Zahara's defensiveness, then so be it. "And while you're at it you might want to describe this other Sevilin to me too...I know I've been in the dark a long time, but I'm not blind."
And he was making it difficult. Though Sevilin only picked him up and kept walking, hey he knew easily enough where Malik was from runics and what not. Though he did slow his steps a little and looked to his son. "What do you mean, like Piper? Piper is a lot of things." Because he didn't necessarily like Piper too much...they still had thier disagreements from time to time and well...he was paranoid and she had a tendency to push the wrong buttons.

Two different people? What in the world was Piper talking about? "I am Zahara Val'ril. I was raised Llothian and I still have Llothian blood in me. It doesn't matter what I do, I cannot change that and it will always haunt me." She shook her head remembering Malik's sword. "I want things I shoudn't want, wish to harm those that shouldn't be harmed and betray more than I trust." Her voice filled with disgust. "I'm nothing even close to a mother." She nudged her mare to get her moving again and then thought about the other half of Piper's question. "There is no other Sevilin. He's the same. He cares about Zykariel more than any father I've ever seen with the exception of Malik. He gets defensive pretty easily and would rather I not be anywhere near his son. End of story."
In true Zykariel fashion he merely reached out and grabbed onto the ever present braid letting his father carry him. "I don't know. I guess I mean pretty, wearing tunics and pants, nice, cuddly, likes to play, and is married to Mr. Malik. That's what I mean Daddy. Would you rather Zara be like Miss Piper?"

"Yes, we probalby won't have to hide it anymore, but either way, you have to do good on your other studies. It won't do for your magic skills to suffer for your sword skills. and vice versa. if your going to use both, might as well be good at both, correct?"
Broog titled his head. Okay, she didn't get that part.
"Broog will comes, proomiss, if Broog's allowed. broog not normally allowed outside of basement. but mez tries. Mistrez prolly lets broog."

"You're very single minded if that is what you think." Piper was kind of tired of stepping on eggshells about this. "I thought you better than that but apparently I was wrong. It is easy to be more than one person, it's keeping those two in balance. For instance...I am Piper Silverfeather. I am a bridge elf, dual blooded. A surface elf who is terrified of the way other elves, even surface, precieve her and one who ran away from her duty and abandoned her family...mutilated myself in rash decision and brought more hate upon myself from those that I share the name elf. I am a traitor to my own race, and foolish enough to trap myself over and over again, barely able to look after herself and stay alive. Take a dagger in the back time and time again. Lost unto herself sometimes, only surviving because she has someone who takes care of her as if she were a pet." That really did hurt to say.
"And I am also, Piper D'vinn. A woman who thinks she is drow...and yes would do what it takes to fit in. Kill a man if need be, slay those in my path. Look upon the world around me with jaded eyes...have had to loose myself over and over again, have little pieces be torn from me and alter what I think. A woman forced to remain strong in the eyes of one she cannot ever eascape from, even if she would like nothing more than to cry. A facade somedays, all a lie." She sighed, looking at the dark landscape ahead of her. "Do either of them sound like a mother to you? Have the ability to take care of and nurture a child? To not be selfish or self absorbed enough to give that child what they needed? I do not think so...but somehow I do manage that task."
She was having one of those deep moments...and even if it would be wasted by a mere brush off from Zahara, it was all she had to say. There was no defense left to say and it was the last thing she had to reach Zahara about anything. Her last go at it before she gave in and accepted it. Despite how much that would hurt. "There's always two faces to everyone...and sometimes they're both something that one would rather hide away and kill off. But sometimes if they can balance...or at least find the help they need...you can pull off anything you want."
Merely watching Zahara a moment before she snapped her reins and continued forward in thier little trek without another word on it. After all, like she said...she wanted to get to the borders.
"Not really...I like how she has her own style, and she is pretty. But then I guess she would do well to have some aspects from Piper." Ew, that tasted bad to say...yet in a way it was true. Then again Piper was practically the anti-Zahara at times. "Though I don't think she'd like being married to Malik." Though the thought did make him want to chuckle...the idea was so audacious it was almost hilarious. "I would like Zahara to be Zahara not who she's trying to be now." She was different before Zykariel, even Sevilin knew that.
Thus making his way downstiars to the arena, since that seemed to be where Malik was. Though wasn't it surprising to see Malik there with his son and his son holding a real sword. Huh that was interesting. But he set Zykariel down, crossing his arms lightly. "Sorry to inturrup, but I have your runes Malik. Just need you to look over them and agree to them."
"And if I'm not good in my regular ones you won't let me do this, will you?" Because that had to be the case. He was being allowed to learn all these new things, well he knew his general studies came first before everything else. Lacking in those meant no extra magic or sword one." But a nod. "Right because you can't rely on just one, or else you're already done for." Hmm, where had he heard that? Couldn't recall right now. "And then I can use a bow like mommy too?" Because hey...projectiles...who didn't want to learn that too. All the neat things he could do. And if daddy and mommy thought he was finally big enough then he could. Made sense in his head. Though his attention turned breifly to Sevilin and Zykariel, but he didn't leave his father's side...Zykariel didn't want to play with him too much lately and he was kinda cranky these days.

((I''ll check back in half an hour to see if someone responded.))
The large flightless bird thumped towards the fortress, in a very straight line. The creature seemed to be unbothered by the many scents that normally would keep such an animal away from this place, and it's eyes always gleamed towards the supposed target. The feathers ruffled in the air, wet from the mysts and fogs which rolled about the many caverns and crevices that shaped this unforested place. The land was fairly dead here, as the marches of orcs and other things simply destroyed the vegitation. The carrion could not fertilize the area because the many carrion eaters simply did away with the corpses.
The flut flut ran right up to the gate, where it stopped, and shoke its feathery body, allowing most of the moisture to fall from its form. WIth another shake, it changed its shape into that of a young half elf with wild black hair and piercing green eyes. He wore leather armour with looked as though it had been through many wars, and the only visible weapon was the sword that was strapped tightly against his back. The hilt looked very plain, but a red tassel hung from the pommel. The point of the sword coult be guessed to sit above his left hip, since the hilt was over his right shoulder (suggesting that this one is right handed). His pale complection was skewed by the black paintings that were used to help camaflauge his body when he walked about the dark in his humoid form. He rubbed his hands through his hair, and gently tied the mess of black into a pony tail behind his head, at the base of his skull. Some strands of hair were too short to be tied back, and fell loosely about his head. The edges of those strands looked like they were cut on uneven patters, or represented near misses with edged weapons.
"Yo, Ogre Warrior, and other guards and wards... What are these strange auras..." The half elf's mind wandered slightly, but then he 'remembered his place'. "Oh, yeah. Uh... Your boss wants to be the ally of Puria. I'll need to talk to him about that. We think we can come to some understanding of an arrangement similar to what he proposed..." Well, this one did not like to be on display, and prefered to negotiate without words. "It would be nice if you could direct me to how to go about meeting with him." He paused for amoment, and then the thoughts whirled in his head. "I am... the Druid of Justice." His name was not important compared to his rank. "I am the one the council could spare to speak to Lord Malik D'vinn about his proposal. Justice is my call, so I guess the council thought it the most appropriate call to answer." Not very confident in speaking talents, but he merely did not like to use words. Words were for the weak who could not back up their lives any other way. It would not be so far from the truth to suggest that this one thought that any who relied on words to justify themselves, were positively liars.

Where had all this suddenly come from? Piper was more or less magnifying every single one of her really quite minor faults. Sure she'd walked out of Andal and caused a stir with her status when she was born but that wasn't her fault. Just like it wasn't Zahara's fault that she was born drow. She opened her mouth a good three or four times to stop Piper in the middle of her lambasting but soon realized that it wouldn't do her any good. Piper was determined to get all of this out. And truthfully what she was saying made an awful lot of sense. It was true that she wore different hats depending on what she had to do. The businesswoman in her was ever mindful of the care of horses and keeping funds down, the chef when she was cooking, the carefree, flamboyant young elf when she was out with Piper. At least normally. The starry-eyed elf when it came to moments with Sevilin. But she'd never mastered the mother hat, never really believed she could. Piper didn't require an answer but Zahara felt the need to give her one anyway. "You know love. I don't." It didn't matter what Malik said to her since she knew she didn't love anyone. She wouldn't even know what it felt like to love or be loved. Sure she liked Sevilin and Zykariel much the way she liked her horses. It was enjoyable to take care of them and give them affection every once in a while. But all the rest, the things that Sevilin did for Zykariel and Piper for Malikhai, she didn't know how to do that stuff. They were moving on though and Zahara nudgd her mare forward, scanning the scenery for the important things and saw the border in the faroff distance.
Zykariel had to laugh at that. "No, I think they'd yell at each other too much. And Mr. Malik would just be mean to her." He covered his mouth with his hand and laughed again. "They would kill each other wouldn't they Daddy?" He didn't really need an answer to that since he pretty much knew what it was and let his father carry him downstairs then keeping close to his father as he watched Malikhai wield his sword.
He walked up closer and studied it. "That's real! Where did you get that from?" That was really cool. Now they could really swordfight instead of just use their silly wooden swords. But it looked really sharp too. Not a toy then. Did that mean Malikhai wouldn't want to play with his wooden sword anymore? Zykariel suddenly felt much younger even though he was six months older and he locked his hands behind his back and just nodded. "It's nice."
"Oh good. I'm so glad to hear that Broog!" She hugged his legs and hten skipped off out of his workshop and ran upstairs. "Piper! Malik!" She didn't hear anything for a bit and began to wander searching for them. If Broog needed permission then she was goign to get it for him.

Arthur blinked a few times when Isle mentioned she had a way to solve the whole fog problem, but what was she getting at? She had that look in her eyes that meant to be suggestive and he had a feel something was up with her but what is it? "Alright then fine if you want to go ahead and do so." He said with a light shrug and continued to look ahead while he held the wheel in his hands. "Like I want to play that game right now, I rarely have been boarded by pirates ever since I've started sailing, it only happened twice but it was no big deal really." People mistake pirates to be really evil people but if you have a good head on your shoulders they are easy to get rid of, especially if you know magic, even a tiny bit. But Arthur had a small smile on his face, it felt really good to be out on the open waters again and he had a strong feeling of where he was going which gave him no fear for the moment. "Yeah it is...though next time that we do this I'll pack us a light lunch to bring along, some fish and other little things that would keep our stomachs full..." But Arthur paused for a moment and smiled lightly, he may have taken almost everything off this boat but he did leave behind a few things. "I left some rum here though when I came to the fortress, I thought I would come back to grab it but it slipped my mind after awhile...if you want to once I dock the boat out here we could have ourselves a bottle."

"And what is love? Tell me that before you say I know something and you don't." Her simple answer...short worded about it but her voice not cold or uncaring. She was merely being businesslike with the situation in perhaps a need to protect herself. Being friends with someone was never easy but she never thought it this hard. Some days she really wanted to strangle Zahara. But it was those short answers worded as so that made them perhaps all the more impacting. After all, she just told Zahara to define love.
And excitment unleashed. "Yeah! It's really real! Daddy gave it to me but shhh mommy can't know yet because she still thinks I'm too little." A little nod at that. "Wanna see it?" Holding the sword out to his friend, though in a safe manner. Safety first when it came to the sharp pointy objects. Yes, Malikhai did show off to Zykariel on the occassion in effort to bridge what little age gap that was between them.
____
"I would say give me a string and I'm good...but I don't think it's safe for me to eat anything that's wild down here. May end up killing myself or something." Hey she knew the line between adventure and stupidity. But a look back to him. "Rum?" Yes, she just asked...this after all was something Isleandra had never heard of...her only experience with alcohol being elven style wines, maybe an ale or such in a tavern as well. Hard liquior she really hadn't touched yet. "Sure I guess...but about that fog situation." Thus out came the flute and she took to playing a rather somber melody the air seemingly shifting in response to her melody, the air thickening with moisture, and yes a nice fog settling from low formed clouds. Rainsong...good family.

"You would have a better idea of what it is than I would. You have Malik and your parents and Malikhai. Seems to me you have it in great abundance and maybe that's what helps you balance such things. I don't claim to know the answers, only the limited knowledge I have and how I feel about things."
He glanced at his father for a moment to see if it was alright but Sevilin wans't paying a whole lot of attention. If he was, he probably would have called out a gentle warning but that was okay with Zykariel. He reached out and took the sword, waving it the way they did their wooden swords.
It felt kind of strange in his hand and he turned slightly to swipe at the air and not hurt anyone. "That's really cool, Malikhai." He handed the sword back a moment later not really thrilled with it and walked back over to stand next to Sevilin. There went pirates and knights.

Arthur chuckled lightly and grinned at the elf, she wanted to try fishing? Heh good luck with that. "Well if you want to try your luck with fishing I would gladly help you out with what you are able to eat and what you should stay away from, though don't worry there are plenty things out here you can eat." Well it's true because some places in the Underdark thrive on their fishing industry and because of that people were able to find out what fish to eat and which ones to stay away from. "Yes rum, it's a hard drink, feels like fire in your belly...humans drink it most of the time." Well Arthur was speaking from experience because he did grow up in a human family and they liked to drink their rum, so he was able to get a hard stomach for it. "Well if you don't want to drink any then that's okay." Though he watched Isle silently as she took out her flute and began to play it, in no time at all the air shifted and then a fog settled in around them. Grinning lightly the elf nudged Isle again in a 'thank you' kind of way and looked around. "Now this is a good atmosphere..." The way the fog settled kind of looked like it was rolling around the ship and the lights were kind of dim but it made for a kind of cool spooky theme really, and Arthur loved it all the time.

"But you didn't answer me. I asked you what it is. Obviously you think that I have it, so tell me exactly what it is." She wasn't going to back away from that one. Hell if Malik could love Zahara was even better off than he had ever been. "And limited knowledge does nothing for you usless you are going to speak of it...its simple. Speak what you know or look stupid to the world." A few forceful movements of reins, rounding out thier path. Hey she could pick up Sevilin's runics easy enough.
He took his sword back with somewhat of an upset look at Zykariel went right back to his father and though he said it was cool, he didn't look to thrilled. What? Did Zykariel still not want to play with him? it was off for the toddler after all, he and his friend had practically played together every day. And now...well he was lucky to see his friend. Did Zykariel think him too little to play with anymore? Maybe he didn't even want to do magic lessons with him anymore."Yeah..." Okay then, let's just cling to daddy's pant leg here for comfort.
____
"Even if there are, I'm sure my stomach wouldn't take it. You've lived down here for your life...what is okay to eat for you isn't okay to eat for me." Though an inquisitve look as he explained this drink to her. "Oh." It was a human thing. Got it. Though she gave him a smile and a giggle as he had nudged her. "I try. Told you I could...my specialty after all." But her flute was put to rest now and she leaned against the edge of the boat. "So how far are we going out?"

Zahara sighed, why did Piper have to make things difficult? "I don't know. Do you have it Piper? You claimed to have it the day you married him now didn't you? Your parents claim to have it as well. Even Sevilin claims to have it with Zykariel. I don't know what it is, that's why I don't claim it. I know what love isn't. Love isn't anger and pain and yelling. Love isn't slapping someone around. Love isn't cruelty. That's where my knowledge comes from so how could I possibly know anything about love?"
