" An what do they have for us to fight." Damion added on to Lazenca's question, hand on his chin as he tried his best to memorize the map. His home island wasn't a part of the map, which only lead him to beleive that it was safe. " And what's this island way up here?" He asked as an afterthought, tapping the land mass above Gambino, and to the right of the mountain range. "Seems like a safe place and all that."

"I'm sure."
Asherah replyed on his comment about his arm, she didn't even look at him. Instead, her focus was on the map Sun was doodeling out. Her thoughts wandered onto other things. Could she be of use? Possibly, but she didn't know where she'd fit in all of this. But she knew she wanted to be here.

Blindly reaching back, Ash grabbed her orange juice and quietly sipped on it. She didn't know really what to say, so she just listened, her ears twitching as she did so. Maybe someone would ask her a question. Maybe not.

Either or, she was ready to answer.

Reiyvian had left the doorway and made her way over to the gathering at the table. Keen, amethyst eyes flicked to the impromptu map as Sunstrike worked. Nodding briefly at Madison, who of the three individuals attached to GUARDIAN already present, was the only one in her squad.

Sunstrike hadn't noticed her yet, and aside from her brief exchange with Lazenca and the moment of eye contact with the rabbit, it didn't seem anyone else had either.

'Dangerous that.' She thought to herself. 'Everyone gathered here together and people coming and going mostly unchecked... They're vulnerable.'

A mental sigh.

"Now, we're all somewhat career fighters here, or submersed in the work that we do. Some of the more idealistic vacation spots are useless to us, unless we happen to be chased through them."

She raised a hand to her mouth and cleared her throat.

"Not quite."

She flashed the salamander a grin and bobbed her head.

"Some of us are career defenders."

Her smile widened. Sun, as well as Laz and Madi would know, that Reiyvian was not only one of the heads of GUARDIAN, but that she was also a high priestess. And that the goddess she served, was a lady of light. She practiced only holy and healing magicks. All her fighting abilities were protective and defensive and the only thing she could 'harm' were those creatures whom were ill-taken to the light.

"Seems to me, like you could all use a Guardian Angel."

Now, Reiyvian was NOT an angel. But the snowy white wings that were hidden beneath her cloak and mantle had earned her that nickname as she assumed her position in GUARDIAN as the head of the Healing and Supply division.

She would make sure that they met their foes as best prepared as possible.

The meeting was becoming a rather boring affair indeed, seeing as how the intel involved drawning shapes on a piece of paper. He had seen things such as this before, and they bored him then too. If the stakes hadn't been so high, he'd probably still be sitting in his castle, wasting away eternity... ah who was he kidding, he'd probably be asleep again.

Turning his attention away from the briefing, Anuksu leisurely crossed the room to Lucind's corner. Something in the way she had blankly looked up struck him the wrong way, and some part of him was genuinely concerned. When he got within just a few feet of her, he smiled at her and crouched down to be at her eye level his eyes bore a look of untold kindness, appearing almost as how one would gaze at an injured child.

"You seem rather upset milady, are you alright?"

Thumpa-thumpa-thumpa-thumpa.

They were the sort of headphones a musical connoisseur or perhaps a hard-scratching DJ could appreciate. Solid design, foldable for single-sided monitoring and collapsible for easy storage, the thumping bass matched every other stride as the waning sun stretched out a long shadow along the ridgeline above the Firebrand's peachy beachy location.

What if this whole crusade's a charade

Heavy footsteps gave way to the crunching of sand, as size ten sneakers, worn and battered as they were, slowly made their way down the incline towards the beach. It had been a while since the stranger had visited this place; he had been hoping for a place to stay, since it seemed that things elsewhere were starting to get a bit harried. He was getting tired of the nonsense; it would be nice to just have a place to lie his head for a while.

And behind it all there's a price to be paid

He was nearly broke, too, which might have been his motivation for coming here, as well. He knew he'd always be welcome, and Watts wouldn't kick him out. It'd be only a few days, a week max, and he'd be on his way. That much he could be sure of; although, the place looked awfully busy, even for the late evening crowd. He had heard that something had happened at the stadium, even saw a few flashes of video that were quickly redacted by the press. He'd know that green hair anywhere. Yet... he wasn't terribly worried.

So why were there so many people around?

For the blood which we dine

As he strolled up the small wooden entryway, he could smell it on the air. That sickly sort of smell that told him that things weren't quite the way they should be. It wasn't the smell of meat that had gone a bit bad after being out too long, but it was powerful enough; something had happened here. And the feeling was only intensified by the number of people he could see inside. The door was ajar; he pressed his right shoulder against it to let himself in, just as a rather pale-looking long-eared woman introduced herself as a....

"... Guardian Angel."

Justified in the name of the holy and the divine?

A loud snort could be heard from behind her, followed by a stifled laugh. "Y... you're kidding, right? Sorry. Go on." He continued to snicker. "Guardian angel...." Meanwhile, his headphones continued to blast music.

Just how deep do you believe?

Swing the camera over to Rage. "Axel...?"

Pan shot, rotate around Rage, then move back towards Reiyvian, from the front, with the snickering young man behind her. A young man who looked suspiciously like Rage. Green locks hung over his brown eyes, though even on this fairly warm day he seemed to be fairly bundled up, although clearly not part of the picture were the bandages around his right hand. The blood looked fairly fresh.

Will you bite the hand that feeds?

This hand was quickly shoved into his pocket as his other tapped the long-ears on the shoulder, a strange sort of smile on his face.

Will you chew until it bleeds?

"So. With a getup like that, are you the entertainment for tonight?"

The camera zoomed over both the Angel's and the... not-so-Angel's shoulders, zooming in on Asherah and Rage, in tow, squeezing the bridge of his nose in between his left index and middle fingers. "Quit while you're behind, Axel."

Can you get up off your knees?

There was no point in trying to change the way his brother acted. Given the same situation under different circumstances (and being that much younger), hell, he might have done the same thing. Even so, it didn't seem like the brightest thing that he'd ever seen his younger sibling do....

Ugh. Whatever. He turned to Asherah. "I think we're going to need as much help as we can get on this one. Gaia's fresh out of walks in the park and happy-go-lucky picnics... I think we're in for a knock-down, drag-out fight." For some reason, the thought of it actually seemed to excite him a bit.

Are you brave enough to see?

"Hmph." He'd take Ash with him if he had to; he started pushing his way to the front, right up in the face of the rest of them, slamming his hand on the map. That one X, it was awfully close to... no, it couldn't be. He was probably just imagining things, but even so, it was way too close to Barton.

Do you wanna change it?

"Let's get going already. If you've got a plan, spill it!"

It wasn't anger. It was excitement. He almost looked... happy. Even he wasn't sure why, but he wanted to get going, perhaps before it was too late. Or maybe the thought of finally being in his element again was just what he needed. Either way, his heart was beating furiously. If that town was even close to where he thought it might be....

"Seems to me, like you could all use a Guardian Angel."

Twitch, blinking at the girl, wondered where she came from. She almost did the surface mental scan, but people had been looking at her funnily so... might as well do it the normal, human way and ask who she was.

"You be Guardian, I'll be Shattered. I'll let you guys largly handle the bloodletting, but I can definitely heal. Depending on your beliefs, I might even be able to resurrect you if you trip and fall into a pit of spikes."

"...The Forgotten Ones?" Madison perked up and looked at Sunstrike for a moment, although many people may have been caught up with the situation, the rabbit still had a bit of catching up to do when it came to that department. All she knew was the minor details. Nothing as bing as something like the Forgotten ones.

Reiyvian
"Seems to me, like you could all use a Guardian Angel."

This caused Madison to smile quite a bit actually considering that she knew exactly what she meant. However, it soon faded as Rage began to laugh. He had no idea what she could do, that woman was someone that was not meant to be underestimated. From where she was sitting, Rage's music seemed to beat in her ears as well. Damn her hearing, the music was very distracting.

It wasn't long till Madison's attention was back on the table and onto the map. The sight of the skull again made her giggle, it was rather comical considering that it was supposed to be a serious picture. Skulls meant serious business.

With Twitch's unexpected comment she smiled even more widely trying not to laugh again. It was good to know that her butt would be saved if she got hurt, it was a lot better than a doctor. But it was the way that she said it that caused her giggling fit even more. If they didn't know any better, some of them may think that she was not taking this seriously. However, that was quite the opposite.

Maximos watched as Damion lifted his hand, snapped his fingers, and then splayed his fingers wide in a poofing motion.

Ahh. They bounced.

He said with a smirk and a nod. If there was ever a perfect description of bouncing Damion had just made it. Theres a sudden pop, and then you feel like everything is exploding, while holding somehow in place. And well, the experience wasnt a positive memory, though he find himself recalling it, much to the rumbling dismay of his stomach. Or was that hunger? He entirely missed that he was being stared at for a moment. He hadnt taken a bite in bit. But before he could, his attention was brought back to Damion as the man spoke.

"You're a mess dude."

Max cocked his head to the side. He wasnt sure what a Dude or if he truly was one, but he trusted Damion's judgment on the matter. Max truly was a mess, and at times a mess is a frustrating thing. But remembering how he became so messy, and the irony flavor still in his mouth, Max grinned wide meeting Damion's eyes, he replied.

Indeed.

As he was becoming a bit proud of it. Sunstrike went to work. And just like that, the Firebrand Tavern was beginning to feel more and more like the Firebrand War Room. There was a large map out across a group of tables detailing enemy positions and individuals seated around being briefed, and clearly about to discuss strategy.

He was completely silent as Sunstrike spoke, instead leaning forward over the chair in front of him, both hands on the table taking the map in as it was created. Every word was important and he meant to catch it all. Max was still as Lucind offered the pen, only moving to watch Anuksu move toward her. He wanted to help, but did they really have the time? Was this really the place? Exactly how many heart beats would pass between the time it too Anuksu to try and hurt her, and his realization that he was very dead and being sealed away? He shook that last bit away, as someone very abruptly attempted to call the parties attention, and interrupt Sunstrike with a throat clear. Well that was rude.

Max immediately looked back with a cocked eyebrow, and a stern face, only to find a little girl! She had a cute little hood, and a cute little outfit and everything. And thats all he could see. As Reiyvian wasnt perceivable by anything other than the naked eye, Maximos saw....a little girl. Rudeness was forgiven.

Seems to me, like you could all use a Guardian Angel.

She said. Ah! She was here to help! Maximos smiled warmly and immediately followed through with a matching tone. It was sweet and kind, and everything a gentleman should be. He even turned around to face her proper as opposed to over his shoulder.

Indeed we could! Do you know one?

Max had met angels, Gaurdian, Seraphim, Choir, Avenging, he knew what they looked like, and while this girl had the garb, she clearly lacked some of the other magical elements. She had to be referencing something else. Clearly. And as she appeared mundane to the eye, she....a little girl...was clearly not meaning to fight herself.

Clearly. But Max stood true to the fact that all little girls are to be treated preciously as they are to one day become ladies. And lifted a finger, just before a response was phrased and said.

Infact, I think we'd all be honored if you could show us. But. Would you mind waiting until the...

He gestured over to Sunstrike.

...briefing, is over?

And then made a sort of fanning gesture to the tables residents.

All these fine people have been waiting ever so patiently for it.

It was all very clear. Maybe too clear, maybe he'd come to rely on the magic in his eye. Or maybe Maximos was just a simple man. Eitherway he'd kindly pat her head and turn back around, touching the godlings shoulder and gesturing toward the map. In a sort of universally obvious gesture.

You were saying, Sunstrike?

At which point he'd resume listening. Unless of course the young Lady needed to speak again. Otherwise, Max would wait until Sun was done before speaking his arms folded up across his chest, one hand risen to tap his chin. A friendly glance cast in the direction of the headphone wearing newcomer, and the young woman.

It wasnt until all was said and done that Maximos considered speaking. Ichigo he couldnt not answer. But Lazenca raised an interesting question, and Max phrased a sort of answer.

Thats a good question Lazenca. Unless you...

His gaze shifted to Sunstrike, and then back to Lazenca.

...Sunstrike, know exactly what we will be facing at each location, we cant strategise who's unique talents will serve best at each encounter. We may be better split into teams, each carrying essentials. A healer, a heavy hitter, so forth.

It was a obvious fact of course. But it gave window for a discussion about strategy, on top of the definition of the X's on Sun's map. And perhaps a discussion of what unique talents were available.

Asherah seemed to calm down and sit back as she sipped on her juice. With a small sigh, she rested her eyes on Rage and lifted her eyebrows in agreement.

"Alright then, don't bust a nut. If we're gunna help, might as well relax." Her eyes fell to his arm. "That's going to get in the way too." Persistence, persistence, persistence. It's the key to getting what you want done.

Sip sip..

Sunstrike touching her shoulder was answered with the tiniest nod before she stepped back.

Her eyes were fixed on the table, following the lines and signs Sunstrike was drawing.

"...you feed off of it, don't you?" It was a thoughtful whisper - those across the room probably thought she was muttering to herself -, but it would reach Anuksu's ears as if she was speaking out loud. "People suffering. The pain of all beings."

The Siren didn't even turn her head to look at the vampire.

"But aren't even those like you are fed up with all this after a while?"

Slowly licking her lips, she added:

"When I look at them here...I can't help thinking...

Weird.

How...strange."

Damion listened to the suggestion of teams with something akin to confusion, his head slowly cocking to the side in that time honored dog-like look of confusion. Even back home, and during the HoH, he was used to fighting on his own, for as much as HoH was a team affair each fighter went in to combat solo with all his plans made on his own. But, thinking more deeply on the subject, it made sense. The earth elemental didn't know large scale warfare, or even small scale. He was at best a solo hunter, going after one creature at a time or small groups.

His gaze flickered over to the little girl as she started talking, he fazed out for aminute, then popped back in at the Guardian Angel line. Was she like Rae? Could she heal him back to perfect if he lost his eyes again? What did it mean to be an Angelic Guardian anyways? Where were her wings? Too many questions! Better ignore them for now and focus back on the map.

" Also, is it all shades? Or is it something else too?"
PostPosted: Tue Aug 26, 2008 6:25 am

Katie was listening to Sun, keeping up with what he had to say. When he asked a question about enemy lines, she glanced up to meet his look and nodded. She thought he had a good plan, but Laz made a good point. Who goes where?

"I agree that we should possibly consider splitting up."

A woman cleared her throat, which brought Katie's attention up only briefly. She was about to look back at the drawing when she noticed a man standing near her. You could clearly hear the music from his headphones. It wasn't Rage, but it looked genuinely like Rage. She had almost concluded that it was him. She glanced at Rage briefly before looking back at the drawing.

Madison took the question right from her mouth. She was about to ask who the Forgotten One's were. She could only assume that the Forgotten One's were the shades that everyone had been speaking of.

"Is it going to be similar to what you all faced at the stadium?"

ALPHA!

She had distant look as she had a momentary flash of Athan and Vahn screaming out that name after they had been burned by the shadelord. Even the smell of burning flesh seemed to be around her.

"Alpha.."

She mumbled quietly what she'd been thinking about.

A blink and the moment was gone as quickly as it came. She was once again focused on the map in front of her.

... You feed off of it don't you? People suffering. The pain of all beings...

Somehow the way she worded it stung Anuksu. This was a feeling that hadn't struck him in a very long time. She had called him out. Brought his nature to light. Somehow, she knew exactly what he was. For some reason, he felt the need to be completely honest with her. Something about her was... familiar, but he just couldn't place it. Something pushed his normal feelings aside, and for once in his unlife... he didn't want to hurt her... he didn't want to see her suffer, or see her in pain. That must have been what caught his attention from the start. Seeing her... blank like that bothered him somehow. He had taken so many lives, and so many hearts during his time, and felt no remorse for any of them, yet somehow she was different... and he didn't know why. He also felt the need to whisper back to her, for what he was about to say, he didn't want some of the others to hear.

"I would be lying to you if I said I didn't feed off of it. It is the nature of my kind. And I would be also be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it. For a part of me still does even after all this time."

Though the words rang of complete honesty, hidden behind them was a twinge of guilt. Could he really feel sorry for what he had done? What he had been doing all this time? Surely he couldn't. In the past, life itself had given him deep wounds, and he would never forget them. He was evil... and he enjoyed it, but it seemed that a part of his past remained within him... the part devoted to the light. For the first time in his unlife, he felt... confused. Surely that part of him had died with... her. As his normal state of mind returned to him, he knew the answer to her next question.

"And it all depends... it all depends on how much suffering you need to see in order to hide your own. There are those of my kind who will never tire of it. Who can never see enough pain, and will continue to cause it in plentiful supply. Then there are those of us...

His gaze turned downward as though he didn't want her to see the look in his eyes. Even though she hadn't looked at him, he still didn't want her to see.

"who grow weary of it..."

She had forced a moment of weakness upon him... something that had not happened since he had signed away his soul. She was now a danger to him... for should he show a moment of weakness in the times to come...

As he looked back up at her, he caught something new. There was a different air about her. She seemed a different person than the one he had seen looking around the bar... now she seemed almost like a ghost. Like some part of her wasn't there. There had been a light in her eyes before... a light that appeared to have been extinguished. He wondered what had caused her harm, for he had seen nothing. He quickly banished away these thoughts to the back of his mind, and returned to reality remembering the last of her words.

"What can't you help thinking when you look at them?"

"That? That, my friend, is a force that even the undead can't get past. They started setting up home there during HoH. Deity's made the whole place a freaking fortress. You have to get permits to even get inside now..."

He jabbed at the X's, patiently drawing focus back to what was important.

"These three are all we, us, need to be concerned about. Believe me, it'll be trouble enough as is. See, this is us, Isle of Gambino, all the way to the north, here. Look how close this one is. That's a little place called Reen on the Barton border. Cute town really, good ruins...quaint, might be the word for it."

He looked to Damion and Wulf next, tilting his head, then looking down at the map and scowling, as if it should be able to tell him what they were headed for.

"I don't know? Seriously. I suspect it'll be shades, more then likely looking for the same information, or guarding said information. There could be undead as well, the closer we get the their border, the more animated evil things there will probably be...I'd LIKE everyone to stick together, but in some area's it might be next to impossible for a large group to travel...not without drawing a load of unwanted attenti-"

Damion pointed out the large island and Sun went red, reaching up and quickly rubbing it out. He hadn't realized he'd put that up there.

"Ice! Loads of ice, and snow, s'not really habitable, believe me, I've stayed-been, been there." He looked sideways at Wulf, then shook his head.

"People can't go there."

He finished rather lamely, searching around, seeing that people were getting distracted, seeing...he looked a bit in panic at Rei, then Max spoke and Sun quieted down a bit, and Rage spoke, to which he pointed to Reen.

"We go here, we find what we need to find, then we go to the next. There'll be people, half people, and people that'll never be the same again on the way. To which we direct to Gambino, and Latent, hoping that the cities hold out."

Sun finally straightened up and rubbed the back of his head.

"Yeah, that's probably the best, split up into teams and then head out. If we all meet up in Reen, we'll find out what we need, and then go on from there. Going at different times means that some of us can hold the fort until back up gets there. Depending on how badly the situation has gotten."

His attention jerked to Katie, and then he rounded on Max.

"You guys met HIM?! THERE?!" Sun, of course, wouldn't have known Alpha had shown up, too intent to get Teira to where she needed to be. "Was it just the big guy? Or were there more?"

He shook his head. "Wait, no, nevermind. It's okay. No, the islands moving, they move with the island..." I hope. "I don't think we'll be of much consequence to them. So pick teams of three, I'll draw smaller versions of the map and hand it out to the groups. Whoever's feeling perkiest can go first and scope it out. You'll be backed up by the rest, and then so on til we get to the last."

One last look around the table.

"Agreed?"

The Proclaimer

The bike was long, a durable looking thing. Silent, deadly- a perfect creation. It rumbled but did not roar, and was smooth as silk on the ride. After the destruction of his prototype by the USAF, by a cruise missile no less, he found the flaws in that design and used them to create HB02 and HB03.

Behind HB02 hovered the HB03 Hoverbike, the Falcon to 02's' Eagle. It was essentially a pack mule while they were being auto transported to his location, the autonomous features gliding themselves to Quinn's' location. As he restocked his pack, he heard the thuds from inside, some rumblings, then people started talking. He was never much for group gatherings, and assumed he would find out what they were doing upon entering again.

Going to the 03, he checked the four blades stashed in the Pack Mods he had Albert install, with Bogs' help of course. There were three Jericho's and a section of useful supplies, including ammunition, the MicroJavs, and of course- a cigar box and a few packs of cigarettes. But the biggest things were last; held on the top PackMod compartment were a HeviHand and a Dexihand, and his pride and joy when it came to weaponry: the Schwarzenegger. It was a large, automatic Heavy Rifle. About four feet in length and nearly 3/4 of a foot in width, the large brace at the end required a special implant for him to even begin to hope to lift the thing with his organic hand. He reached for the implant, which slid nearly in a cybernetic socket on his shoulder blade. Standing for a minute, the shock was sent through his body. Quinn adjusted and shook it off.

He took one Jericho, an ammo belt, a grenade belt, a MicroJav belt to compliment the two ExplodoJavs he had with him, two cigars and three packs of cigarettes. Along with these, he took the HeviHand and tossed it with his other supplies.

Last but not least, he picked up the Schwarzenegger and threw the strap around his body, letting the thing dangle in front of him. He balanced it with his left hand, lighting a cigar with his right. Turning to walk away, 03 shot out an Amp energy drink, which he promptly caught and opened.

Pressing a button on a small tool that attached to his left ear (in appearance much like a blue tooth), 03 lifted off and headed home. It would return by the hour sans-PackMod. If Quinn was gone, it would automatically head home.

He walked through the door, now with three extra belts of weapons, an increased pack size, a pistol back in his holster instead of lost somewhere, and last but not least, the big a hunkin' honkin' beast of a heavy rifle, the Schwarzenegger dangling at his stomach. Blowing out some smoke, he removed the cigarette and lifted the amp to his lips to take a sip.
