Hey, I play a compensating double french horn, the crappy version of a double french horn, and I need cleaning tips for it bcause the band teacher said you can soak it in a bathtub if it doesnt have the fabric on the inside because as you know, if it gets wet, wousnd will never come out of your french horn again. and also my mouth keeps moning up on my mouth piece when i play high notes and my band teacher said her friend did that and he pulled the mustle i his upper lip and so there was a huge bump om hip upperlip like a bottle cap andhe was never able to play the french horn again. and i dont want that to happen to me. and is it hard switcing over from french horn to trombone? im thinking of doing that later in highschool

@Sunrise: I was under the impression that Trombone > Horn was the harder switch? As for soaking the thing, take out the valves first if you can, and try to get most of the water out of the tubes so they don't mold or anything silly. If you have a snake cleaning thing those are handy~ Not sure about the whole lip thing, never heard that before, but I've only been playing a few years.

"); Honestly, your username is rather cool. I would've used that as my username as well, but that would show a lack of originality. sweatdrop . Hey, you show a lot of knowledge on how to take care of your instrument.

French Horn is the Best! The only thing I hate is if I play for a long time, then the high notes don't come out...

iOggy Aryah awwe, oggy *pats his shoulder* I love the mouthpiece... and pretty much everything about it. Especially the sound! .... I was never able to stand playing by myself on trumpet, but on the french horn I can. *lol* But the mouthpiece is so SMALL! Plus, the mellophone's hell to march. Big flared bell... blaugh That's why I didn't like playing mellophone. Couldn't see where I was going. XD On the other hand the bell made a great sun blocker during marching season. I do love the F Horn. Beautiful sound. biggrin

FncyFngers308D French Horn is the Best! The only thing I hate is if I play for a long time, then the high notes don't come out... thats how it is with every brass instrument though. the longer you play, the more worn your embouchure (sp?) gets.

Dis is my first year playin French Horn and IT IS DA BOMB! People say dat I'm really good but I dunno...but wat bugs me da most bout band is some of the stuck up instruments (mainly trumpet!) who think that they're better cuz they play that instrument and that you don't matter! I mean there's a place in our band room to put away our intruments, the french horns get only two shelves that fit and all the rest are either huge(4tuba) or tiny(for trumpets) and one day some trumpet players decided that we didn't matter and they put they're instruments on our shelf when they had plenty of space on their's so I walked up to them and was all like "Hey! Use your own shelf when you have the room! We only fit on two you guys get 5!" and then this one girl was all "So? Who cares!" UGH! Is it only MY schol?!?!?!?!?! mad
