Day: fifty-three Theme: deep in thought
I studied Irony silently. Her hair, pulled back into a ponytail and hanging over her shoulder, lightly brushed against the table as she shifted slightly in her seat. In her hands she held a book. I couldn't tell what it was for there was no title or any images on the front cover. The binding of the book was dark blue and worn around the edges, the pages crinkled and torn in a few spots, yellowed from age.
Whatever it was, Irony was deeply invested in it because while usually she could sense me watching her, this time she made no indication that she was even aware that I was in the room. Her eyes roved over the pages.
I came to stand behind her, looking over her shoulder at the pages.
"Is that Greek?" I asked.
She didn't look at me and continued to stare at the book. "Yes."
"Can you actually read Greek."
"I am Greek."
"Oh...yeah."
I stepped back, walking around Irony to take the seat beside her. She still didn't look at me.
"What's it about?"
Finally, she turned her attention to me, but the glare she leveled on me made me wish I'd kept my mouth shut. "Really? Can't you see that I'm busying? Go pester someone else and let me think."
I held me hands up in surrender. "Okay, okay. I'm sorry for trying to have a conversation."
"You'll be having a conversation with my boot soon if you don't get the ******** out."
I stood up and turned towards the kitchen. "Fine. When you're done thinking, I'll be in the kitchen. Eating."
She didn't answer, and when I looked over my shoulder, I found that her attention had already returned to the book.
