Taking another bite, Miyuki nodded. While Andarien worked a lot, she had to agree he didn't work as much as Shiro.
"Yea, which is probably why Kaito bugs you too. Though to be fair, Uncle Dareon thinks I should get to know more people outside of who our parents introduce us to...."
She remember that conversation, but she didn't think that was such a big deal. Like Andarien, she had a lot to do too, and if she didn't have friends she would probably work on stuff more than she did right now. Or just go out more, who knew....

Andarien frowned, confused by her final comment.
"Why you?" he asked her. "You're the one who's got lots of friends. Jess and River and Aranxia and Amalirahc and all your friends here ... I'm the one who doesn't have any friends. Except if we're going to be leaving again then maybe there's no point in getting any friends anyways."
He had no experience with friends, with playing with other children - really, with doing anything with anyone that didn't have to do with learning. He had always done things by himself in his spare time.

"Because there hasn't been a friend I made on my own," Miyuki replied, "My friends here were introduced to me when I was very young by Sir Elros. Aranxia is... our cousin, like the way Shiro and Kaito are. River and Amalirhac's parents have been long time friends of our parents, that's how I know them both and very, very distantly related to ada."
She thought about it a bit more.
"In truth, probably the only person who wasn't introduced to me by our parents, was Jess. And without them really, I'm just as alone. Amalirahc... will probably be around for a while yet, but Jess and River are ready to start their own lives, as all my friends here are either married or getting ready to be married. They will stay in one spot, and well... we continue to travel."
She shrugged as if that was a way of life.

Andarien nodded slowly as he finished off his meat. "So ... what you're saying," he said, very slowly so that he could think about it as he said it, "is that ... there's no point to having friends? It doesn't matter if you have friends or not, because ... in the end ... they're always going to leave you?"
He didn't know if that made him feel better about not having any friends or not.

"No... it's not that," Miyuki frowned, "I think what bothered Uncle Dareon is that I don't know how to meet people by myself. I think he's afraid once we start traveling again I'll just keep to myself because I've never made friends completely by myself. I don't go anywhere without anyone."
Whether it was her friends or her parents, and she supposed that was a valid argument, except it was just she was never given a chance.

Andarien wrinkled his nose. "Well ... you were little, too ... how could you go anywhere without anyone? I'm not old enough yet, either ..."
Then he frowned. "But I don't get it. That's what bugs Uncle Daeron about it, but you don't sound happy, either."

"I think he's making too much of a big deal of it," Miyuki admitted.
She recalled that she had debated (argued) with her uncle about it for a while, but it was their aunt who had the last say. Which was, Miyuki could do what she wished.
"We travel a lot, and we often travel together, that's just the nature of what we do. It's only going to be normal we spend a lot of time with ada and mom. Though with this coming trip, at least it's not like they'll be introducing us to people they know, because we'll all be new to wherever we're going next once we leave here."
So they would be all in the same boat so to speak.

"So ... it's better to meet friends on your own, without people introducing you first?" Andarien asked, trying to figure out just what Miyuki meant. "Does it mean they'll be better friends that way?"
He was confused, but he put it down, in part, to the fact that he didn't have any friends of his own.

"I don't think it has to do with better friends, I think Uncle Dareon thinks that if left to my own devices, if it weren't for ada and mom I would be like you and Shiro," Miyuki shrugged, "But he probably got that impression because the last time we talked about it, I was in the middle of seals work, and I still have quarter staff lessons, and I'm also trying to do archery... and... there's Ai's training... and whatever happens to catch my interest at the time."
She shrugged again as if to say she didn't get it anymore than he did about the big deal.
"Though he could also be making a big deal because I've heard, and I've only heard this, that mom use to run around by herself a lot growing up. To be fair she wasn't traveling when she was a child..."
And they weren't their mother, frankly. At the most, they had some of their parents' curiousity but the aspects that Miyuki felt that made her parents amazing, for the most part her and Andarien didn't have. Namely their fighting abilities.

Andarien pursed his lips thoughtfully. "Huh ... interesting. I don't even know what it's like not to travel. I guess it would be easier to meet people, though."
He still wasn't sure what his stance was on friends, whether he wanted some or not, and he wasn't sure his conversation with Miyuki was making his stance any clearer to himself.
He finished his meal and downed it with the rest of his juice.

"To be honest, neither have I," Miyuki admitted, "But I know mom and ada lived and grew up in one place more or less. Mom visited the Borderlands, but she still grew up most of the time in one place."
She supposed it was because her grandparents weren't much into traveling, but she couldn't imagine trying to travel with all her aunts and uncles.

Andarien leaned back in his chair. "I wonder if we'll ever do that," he mused.
It sounded nice.
"Maybe we would even have a house ..."
The idea was completely foreign to him. He had never slept anywhere that had been 'home' before.

Miyuki had wondered about that, but as she had gotten older, she wondered if she would ever want to settle down anywhere.
"I know they've talked about it sometimes, but I think they want to find the right place, if we ever do have a place... like a house...."
She didn't fully understand until that one trip to the Westland why her parents had sometimes talked about one place over another. They needed a home where they could have privacy and people wouldn't mind a family such as theirs.

"I guess one good thing about all the traveling is that if we ever do stop, we'll know just where we want to stay."
Andarien grinned. He was half kidding when he said it, but at the same time it did make sense.
"Anyways, I'm done eating, how about you?" he asked Miyuki, leaning forward again.

Looking back at her plate, she was surprised to find she had finished it. It was very good, and it didn't seem like they had been here long.
"I'm done," she nodded after a moment.
