How is everyone doing? xd

Hanging on... this has not been a good week. razz I'm kind of in a medical insurance Twilight Zone right now. My daughter is on a certain medication and each time our insurance changes we have to go through this special appeal process for it to be covered. And in the meantime we're running out and I don't want there to be a break in her getting it.

to explain: My daughter stopped growing at around 18 months due to a growth hormone deficiency (which was diagnosed after many awful tests). The treatment is daily injections until she is finished growing (at around 15 years old or so..) Now at five years old she has caught up with her peers and seems perfectly normal. But if the injections stop, so with her growth. (the hormone also is needed in the body to help regulate fat metabolism and keep certain organs healthy).

So at the moment we have no income and insurance that will end before Dec. 1st. We'll probably have to pay for ins. out of pocket for a bit and then hopefully get it under an employer again. This of course means at least two changes in our status and two chances the meds might be denied and we'll have to go through the whole appeal process again (like we had to in the beginning). This process can take up to 6 months to get it approved (if they do approve).

Sorry Ken - I know you weren't asking for a whole sob story.
other than the above we're fine rofl wink

I hear you when it comes to insurance bull sh*t there Camwen. Those bastards don't care about us. All they care about is money.

On a happier note... I managed to reconcile with a mom of one of Michael's classmates the other day. Apparently the first time we met (around the beginning of the school year/early August) made a negative comment about "Mexicans". Knowing myself I was probably making the comment in regard to people I had a bad encounter with and was telling about the experience. She apparently took major offense because her husband is 1/4 Mexican. (You can't even tell. confused )

After Michael and I left from hanging out with her and her son that day she stopped talking to me or letting the boys hang out. It wasn't until I finally stopped her at a school function the other day and asked her why that I figured out what her problem was. I actually had to explain that I judge people on a person to person basis. xd As if I of all people would hate someone just because they "were" something. Anyway, reeeeeeally long story short she felt silly and we laughed about it. Now Michael and I are going to her house later this month to help her and her son celebrate his birthday. So alls well that ends well I guess.

Good story! Misunderstandings happen so often. It's nice to hear about someone managing to work things out despite getting off on the wrong foot. 3nodding biggrin It's so cool you took the initiative to resolve the problem when the easier thing would have been to just ignore it or let it fester.

I just wish I would of had the courage to say something sooner rather than brooding about it for so long.

Oh Camwen, sorry about your insurance problems.
Unfortunately, our system of medical insurance is very inefficient and filled with conflicts of interest. i hope your husband finds a new job soon! heart

I know how you feel, Camwen, since I do not have any health insurance at the moment either. Although I am trying to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about alternative treatments for my allergies, etc, I definitely miss not being apprehensive at the thought of having to make a doctor's appointment eventually. neutral

Wow, that medical system of yours sound so... incomprehensible to me. Of course the states is bit larger place than finland but still. So you don't have any system fro those who have low income so that they could get the medicine cheaper?

On a happier note as well, I'm going to a work trip on monday. I'll be away the whole week in Denmark. It should be fun and I'm going there with few of my colleagues so I don't be all alone there. We are going to go and get to know with the systems they have in Denmark. Now I just have to decided what to pack with me. xd

It's kind of a "catch 22" for us. There actually is a program that would get my daughter her meds if she weren't insured at all and if we qualified as a low income family. But we are technically middle class and do not qualify. Also if we were to have a break in the insurance and then start up again her situation would then be a "pre-existing condition" and therefore automatically denied. Before the company closed we made enough money not to qualify for any help but we're not rich enough to afford the meds on our own. lol

On the bright side my hubby got an interview today! yay! I'm just waiting impatiently to see how it went *bites nails again*

The reason I'm not looking for work yet is after giving up a couple of different jobs so I could move where my husband was hired I wouldn't be able to get anything that would cover the cost of the childcare while I was at work. lol But of course I'll do whatever we need to do.
