An updated version of my "Chaos back in Chaos" LaTD Word Bearers. Having gotten my hands on the actual list from GW's website, it makes a lot more sense now - it's both constricting and freeing.

Units are listed like:
What I call them (the models I'm using primarily), the unit they represent.

I have vague point values for most of these units, and if taken all together they'd probably total 3000 points. My Dark Apostle and crew are 500 by themselves.

I

HQ

(ally) Dark Apostle (Terminator Chaplain), Chosen Terminator Bodyguard (Grey Knight Terminators)
Dark Seeker (Witch Hunter Inquisitor), Arch-Heretic Sorceror
Aspiring Champions (Daemonhunter Inquisitors)

ELITES

(ally) Word Bearer Chosen (Grey Knights), Chosen Squad
Blessed Missionaries (Arco-Flagellants? Grey Knights w/ Mutations?), Possessed Squad
Betrayers (Ogryns/Chaos Ogres/Ogre Lords), Big Mutants
Daemonettes / Bloodletters

TROOPS

Betrayers (Cadian Kasrkin), Traitors
Usurpers (Necromunda Enforcers), Traitors
Silent Testament (Sisters Repentia), Mutants
(ally) Word Bearer Squad (Sisters Squad), Chaos Space Marines
(ally) Word Bearer Squad (Sisters Squad), Chaos Space Marines

FAST ATTACK

Divine Host (Penitent Engine/Daemonhost), Traitor Sentinel Unit
(ally) Devout Hellions (Sisters Seraphim), Chaos Raptors

HEAVY SUPPORT

Chaos Spawn
Traitor Basilisk/Russ

Thoughts?

EDIT: ...this should really go into painting and modelling, huh? talk2hand

To the best of my knowledge, you need to have 1 HQ and 2 troop choices from any parents list before you can add some allies.

Yeah, it isn't a minimum list, it's more like an "ideal list". What I did is I started by taking the maximum allies (1 HQ, 2 Troops, 1 Elite, 1 Fast Attack) since my focus is on Word Bearers, after all. THEN I took my core LaTD selections, then additional selections based on ideas I had.

I'm still stuck on a couple "alternate model" selections - arco-flagellants is a good use of an Inquisition model for possessed, but they don't really get the feeling I'm looking for.

Also, I like Ogryn as Big Mutants, but I'm not sure if something else, such as large servitors or something, might be more in-line with the theme.

You could use Daemonhosts from the Daemonhunters range as Possessed.

They're rather nice models.

I can't really recommend anything for Big Mutants, maybe Skaven Rat Ogres or something. On a round 40mm base of course.

I would use the Daemonhosts, except they'll already be prominently featured plugged into the front of my penitent engines (Traitor Sentinels).

Plus, I'm not sure they fit the bill of power armored mutant killing machines aesthetically. I might just go the mutated Grey Knights direction.

I think I'm solid on Ogryns for Big Mutants. They can carry Heavy Stubbers (which become Assault 2 instead of Heavy 2 in their hands) and that just screams "ripper gun." Then I just use some FB Chaos Ogres to fill in the remainder of the squad. Mix and match some heads, y'know, then Chaosify the whole thing.

I got a great new idea for my Raptor (SoB Seraphim, demonized) Aspiring Champ: St. Celestine Body, Sword (cut off at the hand), Chaos Terminator Lord Sword, FB Slaanesh Lord Head, FB Belakor Wings (replace the cloak), Hellcannon Wheel Boss (a Chaos undivided symbol - replace the Halo).

Of course, the wings'll be HUGE, but that's part of the effect. Then we just replace the dove on the other hand with, say, a corpse or struggling minion and we're good to go!

The real benefit of including a wide variety of models that aren't in their intended role means I get to use a lot of HQ and command choices and just plug them in as regular units. razz

Your Raptor Champion looks expensive.
Remember to weight the base down for those mammoth wings.

Hehe, yes and yes.

Since I have no ability to actual screw with miniatures right now, I've resorted to copying down bit numbers and the corresponding prices for each conversion.

It's all expensive. razz

I forsee this army being about 500 quid at least.

Limeyspeak aside, I got about US$600 for the total so far, and it's missing 1 Troops choice, 2 Elites, all Heavy Support (the kicker in most armies), and all Daemons.

As for actually affording it, I'll probably put myself on a "paint the one you have before you buy another" system. That should put a significant damper on the monetary commitment. biggrin

As for the anti-Celestine, it's hard to tell from the images, but with any luck, the bottoms of the wings might actually touch the base, provided the base is large enough.

So have you not decided whether to run a Russ or Baslisk, or do you have one of each for whatever flavor you feel like?

Actually, it's mostly that I haven't decided which flavor I like the most - or that I haven't thought of a clever conversion except to make it "spikier."

I was leaning towards a Basilisk since even my Orks' Looted version has served me well in the past.

If you wanted to get fancy you could convert a Russ to have a large barrel, then magnetize the sponsons. Then you can use whatever the Dark Gods feel like. 3nodding

Definately - I half thought about that for my special weapons troops, really. I'm so indecisive.

And for the record, I was straight Iron Warriors until this Word Bearers thing hit me. rofl
