Arielle Shore While they danced, Maria couldn't help but think of The Princess and the Frog, and played "Ma Belle Evangeline" in her head, hearing Dimitri's voice instead of Ray the firefly. His smile, his laughter, his good mood just made the young girl so happy. It was moments like this that she valued the most with him, and just dancing with him made it more magical.
A giggle escaped Maria as he dipped her again, realizing that Dimitri was a better partner to do the waltz with then the guys she danced with for her quinceanera. Looking back to meet his gaze, Maria felt Dimitri's lips against hers as he kissed her. She didn't even bother to remember that her brothers were still there, watching them. All she wanted was to hold on to that moment, to enjoy it and relish in it, letting him know how much she loved him with just her kiss. When she heard the sound of the door opening and closing, she thought it was her brothers going to get something and didn't give it a second thought. That changed when she heard a throat being cleared, and knew from the tone that it was her father.
"I hope we're not interrupting anything," Mr.Vázquez said gently, his voice sounding a little stern. Even though his voice sounded a bit stern, Mr. Vázquez was in a calm mood. His wife was standing beside him, a warm smile on her face as she waved at the young couple.
Maria broke apart from the kiss quickly and found herself blushing in embarrassment. "M-Mamá ... P-Papá ...," she shyly stuttered in Spanish, "¿Bienvenido a casa ...?"

♟♞ ♝ ♜ ♛ Ďȋɱȋŧʁȋ Ĵ. ᾟűηŧȇʁ Can you keep a secret?...
Dimitri let his eyes drift closed, enjoying the moment, feeling his heart flip flopping with pleasure. He smiled into the kiss, suddenly aware of the sensation of Maria's eyelashes were brushing lightly against his eyelids. The black haired boy didn't even give the sound of the door opening any attention, not even really hearing it. He opened his eyes slowly, his lips lingering on hers a moment longer. And then, out of the corner of his eye he saw two pairs of feet, large, black dress shoes, and a pair of smaller feminine shoes.
Dimitri's heart shot into his mouth and he jerk up, nearly dropping Maria in the process. His throat felt like sandpaper, his mouth dry and sticky feeling. "S-Sir." He choked, looking at him in startled surprised. "Uhh..." He looked at the man's stern features, and then at Maria, suddenly realizing that his arms where still wrapped around the girl's waist one hand placed on her hip. Hurriedly he pull back, the term 'keep your hands to yourself' suddenly taking on a much more vivid meaning.
He found himself at a lose for words staring at Maria's father and mother in dry-mouthed silence. Her mother looked passive enough, But Maria father looked somewhat stern. 'And why shouldn't he?' Dimitri wondered numbly. 'what would I do in his shoes?' He pictured himself in Mr.Vázquez's place, he pictured walking into his house after a long day of work and finding his daughter making out in the living room with a boy he'd only officially met twice. He would be looking somewhat stern too 'and then...he'd probably kill me...' Dimitri thought miserably.
But more specifically...Can you keep mine?...

Arielle Shore Maria let out a startled yelp when Dimitri stood up quickly, glad that he hadn't let her fall to the floor, knowing that would've been a more embarrassing sight in front of her parents. She knew that her father had let Dimitri date her and he liked him, but she realized she had never seen the two of them kiss before and wondered what was going on in his mind. Her mother didn't seem fazed, looking like she was happy to see her daughter happy with someone she loved.
Looking back at Dimitri, she also realized that his hand was still on her hip and then felt his hand move away, almost like it left a warm touch on her body. Her cheeks never being as hot as they were now, shyly playing with her hair. Couldn't her parents have come in another ten minutes?
"It's so nice to see you again, Dimitri," Mrs. Vázquez said with a gentle smile. "It's been too long. Had I known you would've been dropping by for a bit, I would've tried to see if I could leave my friends earlier and made you a nice meal or a snack."
Mr. Vázquez was silent, not saying anything as he looked at the embarrassed couple. Judging from the look on Dimitri's face, he could tell that the young man must've been terrified that he seemed so serious. Of course the father wouldn't be completely surprised about their show of affection, but he couldn't deny it still was a bit of a surprise. With a soft smile, the still stern, almost over-protective father, aura broke away and Mr. Vázquez's expression softened.
"The two of you look like I'm about to pass a verdict on you," he said with a soft chuckle before recognizing the disc that was playing. "This is the mix CD from your quinceanera, Maria. What did your mother and I happen to miss?"
"Oh just the two of them dancing like a prince and a princess," Eneas said with a small smile. "We were showing Dimitri some pictures and then Ulises decided to play the CD. Dimitri is quite the dancer though. It was like the two of them were in another world."
"He honestly put all those other guys to shame that danced with our precious, Ria," Ulises added with a gentle smile. "It was quite a performance, and that the special kiss to seal the deal."
Maria groaned and once again wanted the floor to swallow her up. The only good thing was that her father didn't seem like he was going to yell at them for kissing, but of course her brothers had to embarrass them again. She looked over at Dimitri and smiled apologetically at him.

Dimitri continued to stand there, looking like a deer in headlights. 'Or a deer at gunpoint...' He thought nervously, squirming where he stood. The young man looked up, a bit surprised when Mrs. Vázquez spoke to him directly. "I-It's good to see you again too," He stammered uncertainly, raising his eyes from the floor to look at her, put at least somewhat at ease by the warmth and gentleness of her smile. In a way, the woman reminded him of his mother, and he felt a pang of homesickness, not for his home it'self, but for his mother. Dimitri smiled faintly, nodding his head. "It has been a while, b-but you don't have to bother, I'm fine." He said with a smile.
Dimitri glanced up, seeing with surprise that the look on Mr. Vázquez's face had softened, and he felt an enormous rush of relief. He snickered softly, looking a little nervous yet as the man lightly commented about passing a verdict. Frankly, that's what it had felt like there for a few minutes. He had been so scared that Mr. Vázquez would take the innocent show of affection as something other then just that, that it had nearly made him weak kneed with fear.
The boys head snapped over as Eneas defaulted back to the Prince and Princess dance, and his cheeks flushed slightly. It was only worse when he actually complimented his dancing skills, although Dimitri couldn't tell if it was a genuine compliment, or just something meant to make him blush more. "C-come on..." He murmured in embarrassment, Dimitri looked over at Maria, catching her apologetic glanced and slid him hand inconspicuously into hers, giving it a gentle squeeze.
"I uhm... I didn't mean to barge in," He said with a sheepish smile, glancing back at Maria's parents. "I was just dropping Maria off, and somehow these two ended up roping me in somehow," He teased lightly, looking back over his shoulder at Eneas and Ulises.

Arielle Shore "Nonsense, sweetheart," Mrs. Vázquez said endearingly, a light wave of her hand like what he said was just ludicrous. "We mothers have to make our guests feel welcomed, even if they're our daughters' boyfriends. Next time i do hope you'll get to stay for a family dinner. I'll make sure to keep my sons on some kind of lease. They do have a tendency to be a little out of hand." Maria and her father broke out into amused laughter while the two brothers looked appalled before laughing themselves.
Maria felt Dimitri gently squeeze her hand and she returned the favor, feeling bad that her brothers were making him feel more awkward in front of her parents. "He meant it nicely, though," Maria responded in a gentle enough whisper for Dimitri to hear. It was as if she was a translator for what her brothers meant, which was essentially true since she was used to them.
At Dimitri's tease at her brothers, there was no denying how taken aback both Eneas and Ulises looked as they stared at Dimitri before looking at each other and cracking smiles, laughing once again. Mrs. Vázquez smiled and went to go put her coat away while Mr. Vázquez chuckled softly, knowing that it wasn't everyday that his sons were teased back like this.
"Looks like he got us there," Ulises said with a grin, "But we are known to be such devils, aren't we?"
"I think the entire city knows how bad you two are," Maria teased back, a look of sass on her face as her brothers made a face at her before laughing again. "At least my sweet Dimitri can finally come up with a good comeback against you two."
Eneas only nodded slightly, looking somewhat thoughtful. "He is still in training, though, sweet Ria. It takes time for such a novice as Dimitri to try and trump the masters of teasing."
Mr. Vázquez chuckled again and glanced over towards Dimitri. "You should never feel like your barging in our home, because you are always welcome," he stated, going back to Dimitri's earlier comment. "Would you like to stay a little longer or do you have to go? I apologize for interrupting your special moment there."
Maria's cheeks warmed again and she groaned. Great, now her father was getting his jabs at the two of them. At least he's not as bad as Eneas and Ulises though.

Dimitri smiled faintly, a soft laugh escaping his lips, and he was once again reminded of just how much he missed his own mother gently doting on him. "Well....If you don't mind to much, something to eat might be nice." He said, conceding to her point, knowing that it was pointless to argue with the woman if she had her mind set on something. The boy nodded his head. "I'd like that," He said with a smile. "Maria tells me that dinner here is quite the entertaining affair." Dimitri joked lightly, glancing over at Maria and giving her a quick flash of a grin.
Dimitri couldn't help but let the already present grin spread at the look on Eneas and Ulises's faces, it was clear that they weren't used to being teased back. Dimitri made a mental note to try and do it more often, the looks were just to priceless to pass up! "Devils?! You mean clowns right? After all, devils have a reputation for being clever." He said with a smirk , his eyes gleaming with a playful teasing light. Now that he had found a good secret weapon, he was excited at the prospect of a round of teasing banter, although in the back of his mind he knew that one jab about he and Maria would reduce him to a blushing mess again.
Dimitri redirected his attention to Mr. Vázquez, hearing the man chuckle quietly. He felt a flutter of pleasure in his chest, a smile playing on his lips as the man said that he was always welcome here. It made Dimitri feel warm and happy, just to know that he was welcomed here, that he was excepted for who he was, not who he had been, or what may have happened to him. "I don't think I have anything else planned for the evening, I would like to stay," He said with a smile, nodding his head gratefully. The dark haired boy felt his cheeks coloring slightly, and he gave a nervous laugh, rubbing the back of his neck and glancing down at the carpet. He heard Maria groan, lifting his eyes to look at her and see that she too had colored in the cheeks.

Arielle Shore Mrs. Vázquez just smiled, laughing softly. "If I didn't mind, I wouldn't be offering silly child. I'm sure there's something leftover in the fridge, but I do apologize that it won't be as amazing as the first night. If anyone else wants something, let me know." She smiled at the mention of how dinner tended to be an interesting affair and just nodded. "Oh it sure is, especially when the boys are over. We'd love you to be part of the family dinner someday, though. Oh, and maybe you can invite your own parents. I'd love to meet them as well."
Maria's eyes widened slightly when her mother mentioned about seeing Dimitri's folks. It wasn't too much of a surprise since she remembered when even she asked Dimitri's mother to join her family for dinner one day. For a second, she thought she noticed her father paying more attention to her facial expression, but probably thought of it as surprise that her mother asked so soon. Of course they would never know the true anxiety she felt at the idea of having Jared in her home.
"Yes," Mr. Vázquez agreed, "It would be an honor to meet the lovely couple that raised such a fine young man like yourself." The father's eyes lingered on Maria for a little longer before directing themselves towards Dimitri. "Hopefully it won't be too much for them. We'll try not to be a complete embarrassment for the sake of our daughter. Well, I make no promises for my sons."
More like hopefully Jared doesn't pull anything in my territory, Maria thought with an inward scowl. She was glad that her father just thought she was acting like the worried daughter who was afraid her family would make a fool of themselves in front of her beloved's family. They didn't need to know the truth, not now, not yet. She still needed to think of a backup, anything to keep her sweet Dimitri safe. Her hand found his again, gently squeezing it and hoping that he was keeping his emotions calm.
"Hey! We're pretty clever," Eneas said in an almost hurt tone, but the smile said differently, "Sure, we're not as quick to things as our sweet sister or our beloved father, but we are quite clever. And you don't have to worry about us clowning too much if we end up having guests over for dinner. We do have manners."
Maria rolled her eyes, laughing in a light mocking tone. "Well you never really seem to act like mom ever taught you anything. You're still a bunch of wild animals."
Mrs. Vázquez smiled, letting her children tease each other, and focused on Dimitri. "Perfect. Well, if it gets to dark for you to go home, we have an extra guest room for you to sleep in. There is no way I would let you get behind the wheel so late. You could get hurt, and there are foolish drivers out there. Or, if you would rather much prefer my husband escorting you back. I would like to know that you were safe when you got home."
"Ma, now you're just babying him like he's one of your own," Ulises said with a gentle smile. "I'm sure he'll be fine either way."
"I know that, Ulises, but I am still allowed to worry," Mrs. Vázquez came back with a look on her face that made you see where Maria had gotten it from before going into the kitchen and warming up the leftovers.

♟♞ ♝ ♜ ♛ Ďȋɱȋŧʁȋ Ĵ. ᾟűηŧȇʁ Can you keep a secret?...
Dimitri smiled faintly at Mrs. Vázquez, nodding his head in acknowledgement of her statement. "Alright, thank you very much." He said, pausing to listened attentively to what she said next and he snickered slightly, casting a glance over at Eneas and Ulises, a playful gleam in his eyes. He had no doubt that trying to sit down and eat a meal with those two would be nearly impossibly without some form of teasing.
At the word 'parents' Dimitri felt all the muscles in his body constrict, in a fraction of a second his entire body becoming tense. Despite the tension that instantly seized his body, Dimitri's face remained remarkably placed and unruffled, a faint smile still etched on his features. He didn't feel the smile anymore, he had simply frozen it there so that they wouldn't see the bordering panic that threatened to consume his mind. When Mr. Vázquez added his statement it only made things worse, 'the lovely couple who raised him' was hardly an accurate description of Dimitri's family. When he thought about it it detail, it should have sounded more like, 'his innocent, sweet mother who had been kept in the dark for her own safety, and the deceptive, perverted man who Dimitri had struggled his entire life to escape'
Just thinking of Jared, as it always did, made Dimitri feel ill, but when Mr. Vázquez looked at him directly, he raised his head, meeting his gaze with an even, calm look. The word 'Lair' abruptly slammed into Dimitri's mind twisting his heart with guilt. 'You're a lair Dimitri! A fake! Who are you really?! That's right. No one. You're an actor, and you are no. better. then. him.' Dimitri restrained himself from flinching, which was his first instinct. The brutal assault from his own mind was so intense and so sudden, that the slender dark haired boy had to blink several times to clear his head, and the blink back the thin film of moisture that had glazed his eyes.
Dimitri forced a smiled. "I don't think they'd be bothered to much," He said in a light tone although he still felt sick to his stomach, suddenly finding his had no appetite for whatever Mrs. Vázquez might prepare. "They'd be glad to come over, Jared's work scheduled is a bit hectic, but my mom's pretty good with stuff like that, if I tell her, I'm sure she'll work something out." The moment the words were out of his mouth, Dimitri wished e could change then. Even though it felt like a betrayal of his real fathers memory, he should have just said 'dad.' No on else in this family besides Maria knew that Jared was only a step father, and now, that opened a path from new questions, new conversations on that same topic, and there was nothing that he'd like to avoid more then talking about his dysfunctional family.
Dimitri felt Maria's hand slip into his, nearly jumping with surprise, but once it sank in, he smiled faintly, squeezing gently in return. He knew that Maria's would be worried for him, but, despite his nervousness, and fear, he felt that he was controlling himself alright. At least the flashbacks hadn't started. Dimitri would often get flashbacks so vividly, and so terribly, that his eyes would trick him into thinking that he was actually seeing the events unfolding. His body trick him into actually seeing Jared, into actually feeling his skin touching his, and smelling the deep rich scent of the coffee that constantly accompanied him. But for now, there were still no flashbacks.
Dimitri made himself focus on what Eneas and Ulises were saying in reply to his playful jab, which felt like a hundred years ago already. He smiled faintly when Maria joined in with them listening to the banter. The boy looked up at Mrs. Vázquez, blinking in surprise. "Huh?" He said, a little surprised by the suggestion. "Oh, Oh no, I couldn't" He stammered, knowing that he would probably be teased terribly by Eneas and Ulises if he stayed over for the night. "Although," He started again, with hesitant sheepishness. "Depending on how late it gets I might take you up on that last part."

Arielle Shore "Of course, sweetheart," Mrs. Vázquez said in her kind motherly tone. Her sons may have been true about how she was treating Dimitri like he was one of her children, but it was just in her nature.
Mr. Vázquez nodded at Dimitri's response, knowing that adults had busy lives, and wouldn't be surprised if they needed to do some planning. The father couldn't help but feel that there seemed to be something different about not only Dimitri, but his daughter as well, yet chose not to bring it up. Maybe it was just nerves of knowing that your parents could meet the family of your girlfriend and vice versa.
Maria wished she could sigh in relief to see that Dimitri looked fine out the outside, but his mind was what she was really worried about. She needed to talk to him, alone and separately. Hopefully her brothers wouldn't say or do anything stupid that would make her want to punch them in the face.
"Oh don't let my sons scare you," Mrs. Vázquez said as she came out of the kitchen, "They have to be getting back to their respective locations anyway, but I understand if you'd rather be escorted."
"We could always escort him, ma," Eneas said with a grin, "We barely spend time with our beloved future brother in-law anyway. This could be a great opportune moment for us."
"Absolutely not," Mrs. Vázquez and Maria said at the same time, her mother sounding more calm than her youngest child who looked at her brothers with a frown.
Mr. Vázquez chuckled again and ruffled his sons' hair, both of them making somewhat annoyed faces even though they laughed. "I appreciate your suggestion, but I'm fairly certain that I'd do a batter job. Of course, this is no pressure at all Dimitri. Make a decision that works best with you, alright? I'm sure if you did stay, you wouldn't have to worry about sleeping outside of Maria's bedroom window." The father smiled kindly at him, a playful look in his eyes as he remembered the statement Dimitri made earlier.
The color in Maria's cheeks returned as she looked over at her brothers who looked surprised, but were definitely taking it in for future teasing. "Daaaad," Maria whined embarrassingly, yet glad that the mood had changed a bit.

♟♞ ♝ ♜ ♛ Ďȋɱȋŧʁȋ Ĵ. ᾟűηŧȇʁ Can you keep a secret?...
Dimitri gave a soft laugh, ducking his head slightly. It felt strange, to be mothered again....it felt good. To be treated like a son, like a member of a family, a real family, was a sensation he wasn't familiar with. He hadn't had the sensation of being in a real family since before his dad died, and never since then until just this moment. His heart felt like it was constricting with emotion, and he swallowed back a hard lump in his throat. Dimitri felt a surge of gratefulness to Mrs. Vázquez, for bringing back those old, buried feelings that he hadn't felt for years, and part of him honestly just wanted to hug her.
Dimitri glanced over at Mr. Vázquez, seeing the thoughtful expression on his face, and feeling a surge of panic. What did he know? Was he trying to figure something out? Or was it simply his usual reserved expression? The dark haired boy swallowed back his nervousness and caught Maria's gaze. She was looking at him, presumably trying to figure out if he was okay. He gave her a small smile, knowing that she could sense the tension, the fear that oozed from him, and yet, by the look on her face, he must have been doing a good enough job of keeping it hidden.
He tried to think of what would happen if he just blurted it out, told the rest of the Vázquez, and begged for Mr. Vázquez's help. He tried to imagine the looks of startled surprised, the reactions to what he had been through, but he couldn't their reactions where a blur. What he did know was that Jared was to smart to be blindsided. He'd catch wind of it somehow, and the Dimitri's own mother would pay for it, any then, Dimitri knew he would to. Jared would make a quick escape, and he'd take him along with him, and that would be the last chance of a life without Jared gone. No, it certainly wasn't worth tell them now, it was too dangerous, for everyone.
Dimitri looked up as Eneas offered for he and Ulises to escort Dimitri home, and Dimitri swallowed. "Uhhh...I don't think that's a good idea..." He said hesitantly, not sure why it wasn't, just that it wasn't. He felt himself blushing again as the older boys referred to him as 'future-brother-in-law' and he scowled slightly. It didn't bother him so much anymore now that he actually felt as though there was a solid chance of a future with Maria, but it still made the boy blush. He felt a wave of relief as both Mrs. Vázquez, and Maria vetoed the idea along with him.
He smiled slightly at Mr. Vázquez, nodding his head, he was fairly certain that Mr. Vázquez would do a better job escorting him too. Dimitri gave a slight choking noise as he referenced his comment from earlier that day, the tips of his ears beginning to turn red as steadily as the rest of his face. He had no idea that the father was just as bad as his sons. "I-I didn't mean- You know I didn't..." He stammered, giving Eneas and Ulises a panicked look. The brothers hadn't heard that comment, and out of context, he knew it sounded horribly and would absolutely be held as teasing ammunition.

Arielle Shore "I didn't know you were that kind of guy, Dimitri," Eneas said with a teasing smirk before he was tapped on the head by his father who just gave him this look.
"It was because Maria was being Maria," Mr. Vázquez simply answered with a small smile before looking over at his wife who know looked curious. "She was mentioning how she would keep tabs on Arielle and the man stalking her."
The moment that Maria's father mentioned that, he immediately regretted it as his wife shot him a look before looking over at Maria worriedly and then looking back at her husband. "¿Maria planea hacer QUÉ? No hay absolutamente ninguna manera de que estamos dejando que nuestra hija tenga que hacer algo peligroso. Detención de Jonesy era una cosa, pero esto no. No dejaré que mi hija se ponga en peligro a nuevo." Whenever Mrs. Vázquez was concerned about the well being of her family, if Spanish wasn't immediately being spoken in the household, then she broke into it.
"Ivelisse," Mr. Vázquez broke in with somewhat of a sigh, trying to get his wife to understand, "Maria isn't a little girl anymore. She's almost a grown woman, and she's only doing what she can to protect Arielle. If it wasn't for her idea today, I would have to put Arielle into the witness protection program. Yes, I know what she can think of is risky, it even scares me at times, darling, but she is a Vázquez."
Mrs. Vázquez looked like she could argue more, between looking between her daughter and her husband. The brothers had stopped with their teasing once the conversation had gotten serious. Maria's mother sighed before looking at Dimitri. "I don't care of what context your statement was in," Mrs. Vázquez said with a somewhat calm smile, "Just please... Please keep my darling Maria safe. I know this is what she wants to do in the future, following her father's footsteps, but I still do worry about my little girl. I have faith that you can keep my daughter as safe as you can."
Something about what Maria's mother said reminded Maria about Mrs. Emma, and how she had promised to take care of her son. A promise she would keep until she died. "Mom, I'll be fine," Maria said with a gentle and reassuring smile, "You have nothing to worry about."
"You're more reckless than your father," Mrs. Vázquez said with another sigh as she walked over to the couple and hugged Maria close. "Some days I fear you'll get yourself in a situation where you could be horribly injured...or even worse..."
If only you knew mom, Maria thought with a small sigh. She knew the Calcifer thing wasn't that risky, she would be fine. It was the Jared issue that concerned her the most. The issue that gave her the most troubling dreams and fears as she racked her mind for a new way to keep Dimitri safe. Throughout her premonition like dreams, there was always some instance in which she had gotten hurt, and it scared her. "Don't worry mom...," Maria said reassuringly, "That'll never happen. I promise."
Maria knew, as well as her mother, that it was unlikely to be true, but the hope was still there. Mrs. Vázquez held on to her daughter just a little longer before letting go and sitting back up. She glanced over at Dimitri with a composed smile before directing her attention to everyone in the room. "The food will be ready for a bit. Maria, if you'd like to show Dimitri around, you can do so."
Maria nodded, with a small smile before looking at Dimitri and wrapping her arms around him. "So what do you say, lover boy? Want to take a tour of the lovely Vázquez home?" she asked, her playfulness returning in a heartbeat. "Admission is free, and it'll be excluding my older brothers to avoid further embarrassment." She looked at both Eneas and Ulises who made faces at their younger sister before shrugging them off. Glancing back at Dimitri, her smile was still there. "Besides, I owe you one anyway."

♟♞ ♝ ♜ ♛ Ďȋɱȋŧʁȋ Ĵ. ᾟűηŧȇʁ Can you keep a secret?...
Dimitri's face turned a lovely shade of pink, and his hands clenched by his side, highly embarrassed by Eneas's comment. He had half a mind to murmur 'I'm not a stalker.' under his breath, but he thought better of it, no need to give him any more ammunition. The boy felt a rush of relief as Mr. Vázquez stepped in to back him up, making it clear that it had been a way of trying to say that he wanted to protect Maria.
Dimitri shifted uncertainly as Mrs. Vázquez broke into Spanish, the boy loosing the thread of conversation. What was obvious was that she was worried, very worried, and perhaps frightened for Maria's sake. Dimitri glanced over at Maria as Mr. Vázquez moved to calm his wife down, and Dimitri saw that what he was saying was right. Maria was no child, she was a fine young woman, strong, and intelligent, but despite that Dimitri still felt the need to protect her. The dark haired boy looked up when Maria's mother addressed him, and he took him her words with weighted seriousness, his eyes calm, and understanding. "I will, I promise..." He said softly, giving Maria's hand a gentle squeeze. There were times when Dimitri felt weak, and worthless, time he felt like he could do absolutely nothing, but to protect Maria, he would do anything regardless of weather anyone else thought it possible. Now it felt like a pact of sorts, he had promised her family that he would keep her safe, and she had promised his only real family member he had that she would likewise protect him.
Dimitri stepped back slightly, releasing her hand as her mother embraced her tightly, and the boy smile, seeing the sweet, open display of affection. It worried him, all of Maria's risky planes and actions. He knew that it always was for the benefit of someone she loved, but what of her safety? Did she ever think of that? Didn't she know that it would kill him if he let something happen to her? Dimitri closed his eyes for a moment, thinking that he would bear with any pain in the world, ever Jared's nightmarish torture, if it would keep Maria safe. He though of Jared's threats...threatening that he would hurt Maria of he told her the truth about what had been done to him. Jared was all about secrets, and lies, and this would just have to be one that he wasn't in on. Jared must not know that Dimitri had told her the truth.
The boy opened his eyes, exhaling softly, and looking up at Mrs. Vázquez, who seemed to have regained her composure. He smiled faintly, nodding his head, and then looking over at Maria. He laughed slightly as Maria wrapped her arms around him, drawing comfort from her touch. "I think it'd like that," He said in a lightly teasing tone. He hoped that Maria wasn't too worried about how he was handling the conversation from earlier, he had seen the concern in her eyes, and he had known that she wanted to ask him if he was alright. Dimitri gave her a reassuring smile. "So, where do we start?"
But more specifically...Can you keep mine?...

Arielle Shore Mrs. Vázquez smiled, completely fine once again as she looked over at her two eldest sons who were still sitting on the couch, for once at a loss for words. "Now that that's all settled, you two can help me set up the table," she gently commanded, "It's not like the two of you are doing anything else important besides lounging around on the couch."
Eneas and Ulises knew better than to talk back with their mother about setting up for dinner. With a somewhat defeated sigh, the two boys got up and followed their mother. Mr. Vázquez picked up the deserted photo albums off the couch and waved to the young couple, already wishing them luck on their tour before he proceeded to his office.
"Let's start with the upper floors and work our way down," Maria said with a grin as she took Dimitri's hand and led him up the stairs. "My house isn't as large or grand as Kedrick's but it's just as cozy. We've had this house for awhile. My parents moved in when my mom was pregnant with Ulises. I don't think they'll ever leave this house, actually, nor do I want them to. I want to be able to come here when I have kids so they can add more memories to it."
Maria's foot reached the top of the last step, moving over to make some room for Dimitri. She realized that she had been rambling and found herself blushing, rubbing her neck some. "S-Sorry," she apologized meekly, "I'm sure you didn't want to hear me talk about stuff like that now, right? I mean... Let's get going now!" She laughed nervously and turned away, walking down the hall.
(Bit on the short side, but it'll get better)

Dimitri was glad to see Mrs. Vázquez smiling again, having recovered from her worrying over Maria, and the boy snickered softly as she employed the brothers to help her with the table. "Have fun!" He said with a smirk, waving to them before following Maria up the stairs to the upper levels of the house.
The boy smiled at Maria as she spoke about the house, honestly he didn't mind that it was smaller, in fact it was nice. The estate was very dear to his heart, it was a special place that he treasured his only pleasant childhood memories, but sometimes it's sheer largeness and emptiness was intimidating. It seemed odd, and out of place that only two people should live in such a big place, and even more strange to think that Kedrick's grandfather used to live their alone. It was a place that could be very unfriendly without people staying there that loved and cared for each other, that was why it was best when the four of them were there together.
The Vázquez home was just as wonderful as the estate, just in a different way. It was more comfortable, it had a lived in feeling, the kind of place that held on to the feeling of years and years of happy memories. Dimitri smiled faintly as Maria continued to talk about how she never wanted her family to leave this place, and how she'd like to come back here with her kids. Dimitri shifted slightly, suddenly thinking about that. If things worked out with he and Maria, that her kids that she was talking about would really be their kids. Dimitri swallowed, suddenly made nervous by the thought. He didn't want kids! Or...at least...he thought he didn't...'Besides...' he thought miserably, 'What kind of dad would I be? I've never had a stable father figure in my life! I don't even know how a dad's supposed to treat his kids!'
He looked back up at Maria quickly, feeling his cheeks coloring ever so slightly. "Uhm...uh, I-it's no problem." He said feeling a touch guilty, he could see by the look in her eyes that in the future, this was something she really wanted, and Dimitri wanted no part of it. That wasn't fair to her. Was it?
But more specifically...Can you keep mine?...

Arielle Shore Maria laughed somewhat nervously, rubbing her arms before regaining composure and walking down the hallway. "On this floor you have my parents bedroom," Maria began in a professional tourist voice, her fingers lightly pointing to the left side, looking back at him. "On the other side is a guest room, a bathroom, and a closet. That closet tends to have a few of my parents' things, but it's not that impressive."
She walked over to the door of the guest bedroom, letting Dimitri view the inside of the room and smiled gently. "This is the room where my grandmother would normally stay in if she was visiting. My room, as well as Eneas, Ulises, and another guest room, that used to be a nursery is upstairs. C'mon, let me show you."
Walking out the room, Maria headed towards the end of the hallway, opening a door that had stairs hidden in them. She walked in front of Dimitri, making sure the light was on as they went upstairs. There were a few short flights of steps, but Maria stopped midstep, sighing and turning to look at Dimitri, wrapping her arms around him in a gentle hug.
"You feeling alright, Dimitri?" she asked in an almost hushed voice, like she was afraid that someone could hear. "I'm sorry... I should've tried to switch the conversation, but if I had done that, then my family would know something was up..." Now that they were alone, she could finally ask Dimitri her questions. At the same time, part of her felt like she should tell him about her nightmares, but realized that if she did, he would worry more and she couldn't add more to his plate. Just keep it simple for now, Maria thought, pulling back from her hug. Just keep it simple.
