Ryugi's sword. A very interesting object, and while Griff was sure Breath would not stand up to shattering it, he knew it could get the job done. He'd just have to reforge it. Keeping himself shielded for the time being, Griff looked over the blade a few times. The green orb on the guard appeared to be a nice spot to aim. Likewise, the V where the blade and guard meet looked real good. "...Alright. I think I'm about ready to take a stab as this. In fact, I'm fairly sure I know exactly where to hit."

A few seconds to lift himself to his feet, the energy shield evaporates. The man looked right at his opponent, grinning. "You know what? I'm entirely sure." Morivan lets off a quick grin, jumping up an inch or two before flapping his wings as hard as he could. The katana sliced through the air, hanging far off to his left. Reaching way back with that blade, Griff took a stab, aiming for, in actuality, between where he figured the two weak spots. With the particular force that he hit, his blade would quickly fall into the softer of the two weak points.

Three turns of waiting and powering up, and Griff charged in towards Ryugi and his sword, Griff's sword colliding first with the green orb, which was actually stronger than Ragnarok itself. As for the second apparent weakpoint, the "V" was also wishful thinking on Griff's part. And while not stronger than the sword, it was reinforced with heavily tempered and strengthened Dragonsteel.

Ragnarok did have a few weaknesses, as did all swords, but they were as unconventional as the sword itself. Ryugi easily blocked Griff's attack with his sword, and grinned, speaking as he moved.

Think your opponent has a weakness, and it becomes his strength.

As Griff's weapon colided with Ragnarok, Ryugi pushed back, stepping forward and pushing Griff off of him. This would knock Griff back, and give Ryugi just enough time to thrust his left hand out and towards the wrist of Griff's katana wielding arm, gripping it snugly in a firm clasp...

Grunting hard as his weapon was deflected, Griff flew back a few feet to catch eye of Ryugi's impending grasp. No longer interested in conversation, Griff pulled his left arm in closer to himself, the blade hopefully slicing along Ryugi's digits nicely. Cutting or dismemberment of fingers would be a beautiful sight about.

Now, keeping with this movement, Griff slid around Ryugi to his own right, coming up on Ryugi's left. The following attack was one of Griff's more unusual manuvers, in that Griff was not normally a fan of high magics. But he could do one once in a while.

Graviton Edge Part 1

Jumping up and with a quick kick at Ryugi's back, Griff flapped off and flew to the opposite side of the arena, nearer to where the handrail was overlooking the statue of the pure and evil swords clashing. Taking his blade into both hands, Griff focused. Hard. On that blade. His turn would end here, and Griff would be on defence during his charge turn.

Griff FAR underestimated Ryugi's ability to flow along with his opponent in battle, and underestimated his defenses as well. As His grasp missed, Ryugi's hand actually caught the green katana and allowed it to slide harmlessly through his armored gloves. Ryugi was a swordfighter at heart, and his gloves were specially designed to allow him to grasp bladed objects at will, without hurting his hands.

Next, Griff slid towards Ryugi's left, and Ryugi turned about to face the man as he moved. Then came the kick which was easily avoided with a quick crouch on Ryugi's part. Finally, Griff flapped his way back towards the edge of the arena, and Ryugi followed, Ragnarok on his shoulder, ready to strike soon... Four.

Griff gritted his teeth once more. There was nothing more annoying than a brick wall defence. He couldn't readily figure anything that Ryugi was weak to. So, he'd just continue his concentration, focusing on his blade. All was still for a moment. Maybe too. Griff didn't move. Unless Ryugi takes now to strike, Griff would go forward to charge. A Shudder of energy through the area, followed by a slowly growing wavelength of mana.

Soon, there is almost a visible tidepool of magic, still non-existant to the naked eye. But anyone who can feel magic or energy could see the energy swimming around the blade, being drawn in. The energy flows out a dark green, letting off a signal that would interfere with radio signals. And for just a second, all went silent...

And then the blast.

A sonic boom explodes out, pushing out to slam into Ryugi, hopefully knocking off a brick or two of that amazing defensive wall. Right after the wave washed away, both fighters would feel a sensation of negative gravity up to -2Gs. This sensation hung in the air for almost ten seconds. Griff took this chance to jump off the ground and flap his wings twice forward. At first, there was no actual effect more than a couple inches, but soon after, another boom, this one likely to cause eardrums to pop, maybe even burst. The air that was pushed away at that alarming rate was sucking back in, right into the blade. The first shove of energy sending Griff back to Ryugi with a nice shove. The gravity, +4Gs, was sucking in right to the sword, and hopefully it'd pull Ryugi in with it. It would be Griff's wish that Ryugi try to walk forward or put any pressure forward. He'd be sucked right into the sword because he lessened his leverage against the pull and, if he wasn't cut, he'd get Demi magic damage.

Ideally, Ryugi would be cut AND crushed!

Back and forth. Thats exactly what happened. Ryugi was knocked back towards the wall, the sonic boom making him flinch as he came back down. Then came the second blast, pulling him towards Griff and the sword, the boom making him wince in pain. Luckily, nothing serious, but it was painful. However, Ryugi was used to force based attacks like this. As he recovered in a crouch from the first blow, he stabbed his sword into the ground nearly halfway down the blade.

No one had ever really seen or tested the true strength of Ryugi. Mental resolve had been tested numerous times, but never his real physical strength. Four G's meant that nearly 600 pounds were being exerted on Ryugi's body. It was difficult, but Ryugi stood strong, Ragnarok helping him resist the strength of Griff's attack. And soon, it would be time...Five.

"Mother..."

Griff released the attack from his sword, the g's loosening quickly. The Avian quickly raised his blade up and figured he'd go for another double threat move. This time, he would raise his left arm, katana in hand, and come down with a hard overhead slash, his body showing too many signs of momentum to be read before a definite move could be decerned.
PostPosted: Thu Mar 16, 2006 12:02 pm

Griff moved towards him, but it was already too late! As soon as Griff moved, Ryugi erupted into action! It had taken him six turns, but he'd done it. He was ready to let lose with more power than Griff had seen him use yet! With a cry of inner strength, he yanked Ragnarok out of the ground as his legs flexed to their maximum power, sending him rocketing nearly one hundred feet into the air without use of his flame abilities. As he rose higher and higher, flame energy could be seen engulfing his body, and growing larger.

When he reached the apex of his jump, he spun around, and with a ripping sound, two thin but powerful dragon wings exploded from within his jacket, forcing him even higher into the air, and out specially designed slots in the material. The force from the wings launched him to nearly three hundered feet high. The flames roiled and flowed around his being before ballooning out in front of him to form a sphere roughly thirty-five feet in diameter.

S U P E R ! !

The shpere pulsed with energy and light and Ryugi dove straight into the burning inferno below him! The massive shpere then began to drop towards the ground with a terrible speed of nearly one hundred feet per second. Glowing tendrils of energy followed behind the massive blast as Ryugi dropped along with it, the temperature around the arena climbing to nearly 300F degrees.

N O V A ! !

The ball sped towards the ground, the severe heating of the air causing a wind of roughly 50 mph to whip around the arena floor, tossing smaller cracked pieces of rock to go flying about like tiny missles. The shpere's intense heat now raised the temperature to nearly 600F degrees as it drew nearer to the ground, winds now whipping at speeds of roughly 75mph.

A T T A C K ! !

User Image

The shpere slammed into the ground, and detonated sending chunks of melted rock flying for nearly 100 feet in every direction, and with enough force to level the small grouping of houses at the end of a culdesac. Temperatures from the blast would rocket to nearly 1500F degrees as bits of flame energy shot outward in powerful searing waves similar to the dying throws of a star. The statue of the two mysterious swords would be broken, burned, charred, and crumble under the power released from the attack.

The aftermath of the attack would become clear after the massive chunks of rock had stopped flying about, the high temperatures had subsides, and the flames had ceased to burn. The returning air would sweep in and claer the field of smoke and ash to reveal a crater blasted into the arena by the immense forces at work within Ryugi's attack. And in the center of the crater, Ragnarok in hand, stood Ryugi. His dragon wings visable, and ready to kick the fight up a notch...if his opponent was still able.

"...This...", was all what Griff managed to say before the blast, quickly being made no more.

That's what COULD have happened.

In reality, yes, all Griff managed to say before the blast hit was 'this', be he wasn't killed or obliterated or any of that. No, instead, at the sensation of the massive air circulation, Griff swapped his sword over to his right hand, placing the blade against the current of the air. This lasted for a good bit of time, in their minds, the elapse only really being a fistful of seconds.

Bam. The blast errupted out and washed over the field. For a moment, everything was white, rocks being hurled in and out of places, going through other stones like a knife in butter. It wasn't a good place to be right then. And just when it seemed this blast had inevitably been Griff's downfall, a pillar of spiralling green mana shot up into the air, signifying Griff's presice location.

The light of this pillar was short lived as it sucked and drew things into it. Even Ryugi, if he hadn't braced himself damned well, would be sucked into this. Griff stood directly in the middle of what soon turned into a tornado. The eye of this storm grew tighter and tighter, and then it's landing was cockeyed to the right, and then finally, the true origin of the twister was presented. Breath, the emerald katana was sucking things into it. Ryugi's move triggered Griff's.

In this moment of visual clarity, Griff's whole body could be seen. There were cuts all over the place from debris and heat, but one in particular was most interesting. On his right shoulder, a tattoo was seen, cut in two. When seeing this, one's eyes almost snap to Griff's own, once green, they were now white! The pure white of his eyes was almost like looking at salt. Shattered and powdery, but so very pure.

Another flash. A darker green rather than the normal emerald. Griff was invisible for just a moment, and when he was visible once more, he looked much, much different. His wings were still there, but he was a full avian, black falcon humanoid. He'd seemed to have grown, his hands were all tipped with sharp fingernails. His boots replaced with a pair of taloned feet. His face remained more or less humanoid, minus the beak, which looked sharp as well.

Lastly, A new addition to the arsenal, Griff's sword, Breath, seemed to be twisted. The blade was infact a spiral.

Transformation : Dark Avian
Prompt : Great anger or pain.

The now six and a half foot tall bird man stared at Ryugi a second before bursting off the ground, his wings flapping much faster in his full Avian form. Like a lancer, he thrusted his sword forward, aiming directly for Ryugi's skull. A direct hit would mean fatality.

((Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirdman! xd Sorry Griff, I just HAD to say it.))

The pull of Griff's weapon once more threatened to cast Ryugi towards it, but he was once more saved by his reflexes. As he felt the tug once more he stabbed his sword into the ground and rode out the pull until it subsided. Then, he gawked for a moment at Griff's strange avian form, thinking for a moment about how tasty some chicken flavored ramen would be at that moment.

However, his noodle filled bliss didn't last long, because pretty lights generally meant a not so pretty something else heading your way soon. And as it turned out, he was right. The Griff-in sped towards him, aiming a stab right at Ryugi's head. Now, Ryugi wasn't someone to enjoy a stab through his noggin, so he decided he'd avoid it. His head was hard, but not THAT hard.

Griffin sped towards Ryugi, and for a moment it seemed like his attack would go off without a hitch. Wrongo. And Ryugi had timed it perfectly. A thrusting, stabbing attack uses alot of assurance from the attacker. This meant that Griff HAD to be sure his attack would hit, or he wouldn't have left himself so open to attack. Obviously this form of his had increased maneuverability, and possibly increased offensive and defensive abilities as well, thus meaning Ryugi would have to very wary around it.

So, playing on Griff's confidence, Ryugi waited until the last second, and then ducked rolled to Griff's right as Griff's stab would be about to pierce his forehead. Ryugi then swung Ragnarok up with his retreating right hand, aiming the razor sharp edge of the blade into the thick base of Griffin's right wing. The blade wasn't swung with enough force to dismember the wing, but it would be enough to cut to bone and leave the appendage attatched, albeit with much bleeding.

Ryugi's own wings would fold against his back, protecting them from harm as the birdman whizzed past him. His roll would leave him in a crouch, facing away from Griff, but Ryugi would turn his head to keep an eye on his opponent as Griff moved away from him, his momentum following it's previous heading. Ryugi's sword would be laying next to him, the tip facing forward, the handle resting firmly in his right hand, ready to strike.

No, Griffin thinks, simply letting out a preditorial screech. Very quickly, Griffin twists his torso, taking Twisted Breath into both hands to block and hold Ragnarok. His green eyes glare right into Ryugi's mind as he shoves off, the two swords flying apart from one another.

Griffin was no longer taking his time. He was a hunter now, not a fighter. Having just pushed off of Ryugi, Griff quickly throws his talons down to pin Ryugi's arms to the ground, the draconian on his back. He would then reach up with his sword and, with the force of both arms, drive the blade between Ryugi's eyes.
PostPosted: Thu Mar 16, 2006 3:17 pm

So... THATS how this being was going to fight eh? Well, as much as Ryugi hated it, this wasn't a fight anymore. This was a matter of life and death, and perhaps no creature in thw whole of Gaia fought harder than a dragon trying to protect itself.

As Griff's claws got ahold of Ryugi, his eyes turned redder, more blood-red, and his pupils dilated, now looking like reptilian slits. His gaze was feral, one of menace. As the talons locked onto Ryugi's arms and pinned him, Ryugi's forearms and hands shot up, grasping the tallons, hard, with a grip powerful enough to crush bone and tendon alike, Ryugi's pointed fingertips digging into the flesh and bone of his opponent. If Griff were to look now, Ryugi's canines had grown, and his muscles began to bulge...

Then, as Griff's sword came whizzing towards Ryugi's eyes, Ryugi leaned his head to the side, the blade digging deep into the ground below. And in one single motion, Ryugi's legs snapped up and wrapped around Griff's neck, then snapped back down to the ground, causing Griff's head to colide with the floor with terrible, bone jarring force. Ragnarok wasn't needed now, and it lay off to Ryugi's right side, abandoned for the time being. What would be coming next, WASN'T going to be pretty...

The monsterous bird screeched for almost a minute straight until being slammed into the ground, skull first. From that second onward, Ryugi's hold was like loosely holding a finch. He was ******** freaking out, his wings and arms flailing, despite the pinholeworth of movement room. His talons were attempting to scratch and slice, but he wasn't too damned well on that front. In fact, Griffin didn't make a whole lot of progress until his right wing popped free. With this, Griffin flapped it erratically, flipping the two around to roll about. During this, his other wing popped free. Rolling again, Griffin got to his belly and starting flapping his wings hard, actually making lift. It wasn't much, but the Dark Avian managed to get twenty feet before just stopping. Ryugi was a bit heavier than Griff, enough so that he'd fall to the bottum as they go tumbling to the ground. Hopefully, Ryugi's spine would shatter.

And it would stay like that, for as Griffin thrashed about, Ryugi finished his transformation. He was now in his hybrid dragon form.

And now, he was stronger than ever, and more than capable of crushing the proverbial canary. It was about time the battle took place on more even terms...

Griffin was now most certainly overpowered. The bird could barely move now, let alone actually fight. The bird was too frantic to concentrait on charging for another attack, not to mention not inhaling often enough. All this, plus the sleeper knee on his throat, which Griffin kept choking on. It wouldn't be long at all before the sound of shattering glass rang out, and another flash of green light right atop of Ryugi.

There lay a rather ragged, humanoid Griff.

Think it was a cop out? Think again.

The physiological makeup of a bird includes hollow and fragile bones, not to mention extreamly fickle breathing passages. Dragons muscles can, generally, break through steel and stone, so feathers and flesh wouldn't do s**t. Enter a panic plus pain, stir it all together. Griff couldn't sustain this pose and his conciousness.
