Faust stiffened. "He seems more like you... fortunately," he said. He noticed a strand of black hair that clung to Netsubo's lower lip, and brushed it away.

"Here's the ice," Yuki said breathlessly. "Um... Dad."
Faust took the ice, handing it to Netsubo. "Careful, it's cold..." he sighed. "Yuki, I was thinking that we could...." what? Faust had no clue what to do with a teenaged boy who was apparently his son.
"Want to grab the microscope and go down to the pond?" Yuki suggested. "See phagocytosis in action?"
"That... sounds wonderful," Faust said. He looked surprised, but pleasantly so.

"Phagocytosis..." Faust laughed suddenly. "I was very enthusiastic about it in high school. It earned me terribly cruel nicknames, though."
"You, too?" Yuki asked, looking astounded. "It's because of the first syllable, isn't it?"
"Yeah... and when I was younger, I didn't look that tough, so kids suspected anyway...." Faust cleared his throat. "Yes. Um. I think we should get Netsubo in the house so she can rest. Do you mind if I pick you up?" he asked.

"Dad?" Yuki asked, keeping up with Faust easily with his long legs. "I don't know how to say this, but... I want you to stay. I want you to stay really, really badly."
"Slow down, Yuki... I don't speak Japanese as well as you do."
It suddenly occured to Yuki that he didn't even speak the same native language that Faust did.

"It's actually much better," Faust said, smiling briefly. "The Yakuza won't allow English or German to be spoken, and I guess you could say I've been a little... forced... to learn better japanese."
