Yeah, it doesn't seem right to me either, considering there are about 6,000,000,000 people alive right now. If everyone of them spoke 5 words a day, which of course isn't likely because people talk a lot more than that usually, that would be 11,000,000,000 words spoken a day.
Divide the 5 exabytes by that and you get 454545454.5, apparently. According to my calculator, which might just be freaking out at the size of those numbers. Regardless, that number becomes the number of days it would take to reach 5 exabytes.
365 days in a year. Divide that by the above number and you get 1245330 years. Quite a few. 1.25 million years.
Taking into consideration that the average person probably says a few thousand or more words a day, and then again that the population of the earth has increased dramatically over the past couple of centuries, I'd say that the supposition that 5exabytes worth of words have been spoken by any human that ever lived isn't far off.
