"And it worked on Earendil, I'm quite interested in it's proprieties too. At the moment my family use ginger to combat sickness like that, but ginger is also a spice and it's really spicy so sometimes the taste of it isn't for everyone. Earendil said this tastes sweet... which makes sense since you do need to be able to keep it down."

And Lin would prefer something sweet to something spicy.

"By the time we get back..." Lin added, "Yukiko is going to be dancing for joy at the plants Shiro will bring back."

They'll probably have to built another green house.

Leyenda laughed and set the tray down next to Lin. "By the time we get back," she laughed, "we're going to have so much to tell, and so many new things with us, we won't know where to start."

She got the marmalade out of a cupboard and set it on the tray with the dishes, then brought out a small round tray with a lid. "Here, Lin, you can put the bead slices on here so that it doesn't get cold when you take it outside," she told her.

Rhea was peering over Kelirahc's shoulder. "Learning to write?" she asked interestedly.

Kelirahc nodded. "I'm not sure how much of a point there is," he admitted, "but it was interesting watching Shiro when he was writing."

"Write down your history, your people's history," Lin suggested absently as she took off the lid and set the bread down on the tray, "Though I'm sure Sir Valdemar is going to ask you all about it when we get back."

So would Adonai now that she thought about it, heck with the plants that Shiro would be bringing back both Adonai and Cindy would have a field day.

"But you could also record your own experiences of traveling as well that in itself would provide a unique insight, or it would just be neat to look back on it years from now. How we feel now and how we feel about things later are two different things."

"Well, sure," Kelriahc replied with a shrug, "but ... why write it? Why not just remember it? Our people have been retelling our history for thousands of years without writings ..."

If others were interested in his past, could he not just tell them about it?

Leyenda smiled and put one hand on his shoulder. "Don't worry about it," she smiled at him. "It's fine."

Lin smiled for a moment and went back to what she was doing. She understood where he was coming from but of course his village was small, books she found was the best way to across towns, cities and countries, but she figured that was for another time.

"There," she murmured, "Do you think this is enough?"

She asked Rhea.

Rhea looked over at the tray and nodded. "Definitely," she agreed. "And if not, we can always get more."

She straightened and moved to join Lin. "We'll see you all later," she said to the others. "And we'll let you know how Haldia is doing."

She held her hands out to the tray. "Want me to carry it?" she offered.

"I got it, don't worry," Lin replied picking up the tray.

When she was sure she had it steady she began to head out of the galley and back to Haldia's room. The nice thing about bread she thought was that it tended to fill you up.

"All right." Rhea held the door for Lin, and walked with her across the deck, again holding the doors for her to get to Haldia's quarters.

When they entered the room, Celeb and Haldia were playing cards again, but at the sight of the tray of food, Haldia sgrinned widely and set the cards aside, moving to clear the desk, where they would eat.

"Thank you so much for this," she said sincerely.

"You're most welcome," Lin replied as she set the tray down.

Seriously it wasn't since they did care about Haldia's well being. She motioned for Haldia to dig in and take first pick.

To Haldia, bread was bread and spread was spread, and she didn't care what piece she had. She just picked the piece nearest her and slopped on a generous portion of the marmalade before taking a large bite.

Rhea laughed. "Celeb," she grinned, motioning for him to go next.

Celeb was eager, but he took greater care in preparing his bread: he took his time and made sure that the marmalade was spread right to the very edges of his slice, and that it was the same thickness all the way across. Only then did he allow himself to start to eat.

"Go ahead, Lin," Rhea smiled at her.

"Thanks," Lin murmured before taking a piece.

She carefully put on a layer of the marmalade in truth she never had one before but she needed fruit and Lin knew this well. So she might as well try it. Taking a bite of the bread she noted it was quite sweet and it did make the bread quite tasty.

While Haldia kept eating, even after her second and third slice, Rhea limited herself to only one, since she was planning on eating dinner with the others in just a few hours. Once she had finished her slice - which she took her time eating so that she could enjoy it - she opened her bag and pulled out the various materials that Alena had given her to work with.

And so began a very busy afternoon for Rhea, Lin and Haldia.

The busy day turned into a busy week, and things very quickly fell into a new routine of meals and sewing for Rhea and Haldia, at least, Rhea didn't need Lin anymore after the first two days, which left Lin free to do what she wanted. Over the course of the week, Alena visited the ship often, sometimes twice a day, and though Earendil was busy preparing to leave to chart the island, he never went with on the roc.

Lin looked forward to Alena's visits, though she was sorely tempted to take a flight herself. For some reason being here she was more eager to spread her own wings than anywhere else. That or it was being stuck on the ship that was once again getting to her.

Though she took great interest in the things Alena brought like the drinks for example. While Lin was no potion maker one did not live with at least two healers and two potion makers and not at least get some of the basic concepts of it.

Though she was quite eager to do something useful, so far useful involved making sure her pets were well taken care of. Often Lin could be seen playing with Senka or her flutterbyes while wearing two or three pairs of socks (she really hated boots).

One day when Alena visited, she had a request for some of the travelers.

"His Royal Highness has returned," she informed Arwen, Roydon, Kelirahc, Leyenda, Earendil, Lin, Rhea and Celeb. "He wishes to meet as many of you as possible. He has been told of your origins, and as he has never seen those of our old homeland, he is especially eager to meet all of you."

Earendil had to admit, he wasn't surprised, but he did not want to go back on the roc. Skyel might be a tame roc, but no amount of taming could make the ride any smoother.

"Let's go then!"

Lin of course was eager but then again she could fly on her own free will, and even if she couldn't she didn't have quite the same issues as Earendil. In fact Lin made herself feel better by telling herself it was better than a rollarcoaster not that she had ever been on one but she had seen them.

She thought a roc was more sound than a rollarcoaster.
