Adara just laughed in response and swam until she felt her toes just touch the bit of sand that began to slope upwards. As soon as she could touch the ground she bagn to run (as best she could) up to the shoreline. With a laugh, the girl stood with a triumphant stance at the edge of the waterline, fully aware that he had let her win, but was going to rub it in, none the less.

"Come on, slowpoke!" she beamed a wide smile at him, unconcerned with the consequences, while dripping water all around her.

Laughing and shaking his head at Adara's gloating, Alexei waded out of the water towards her.
"I will have you next time," he said, shaking his finger at her, beads of water flicking off it as he came onto shore.

"Not if you keep letting me win, love," Adara grinned and dropped herself backwards onto the sand as the few droplets of water spattered against her face, leaving little bubbles of water on her glasses. She sprawled across the fine sand, which was soft under her, and beamed pleasantly.

"Can we just stay out here forever and claim this as our own personal island?" she laughed. The bump of sand that they were on was really no bigger than 20 square feet.

Alexei smiled adoringly down at his love, and set himself down beside her, leaning on one elbow in the sand.
"Eh, you catch me. O-K, next time I don't go easy, then."
He shook his head with a grin and held it up with his hand.
"Yes, we can. We can build little tiny castle, we already have a moat."
He looked back across the water to the mainland, then back to Adara.

With her eyes closed against the sun, Adara missed the adoring glances towards her. The sand was warm against her wet clothes and skin, so laying with as much contact against it as she could manage was very pleasant, which only made her smile wider.

At the mention of a tiny castle, the teen opened her eyes and rolled onto her side, picking up a large amount of sand with her wet body.

"Well we better get to work then!" she exclaimed as she began pushing lumps of sand together and forming a small tower. "I didn't bring a bucket or anything, so it may not be suitable for sleeping in tonight. But I promise I will have it ready before the winter comes!"

The lump quickly became a cone and she jammed her slender fingers in the side a few times before drawing a door on the side closest to her. With an exaggerated triumphant grin, Adara looked up at Alexei, "I know it's only temporary until we can do upgrades to it, but I'm ready to call this home. I'm so happy right now."

She grabbed his free hand and managed to muster up some fake tears to glisten in her eyes to match her overdone gleefull expression.

Alexei turned onto his back and shielded his eyes from the setting sun with his forearm as he looked up at Adara. He allowed her to take his hand, and used it to pull her towards him.

"You are crazy, just a little, I think. I like this about you."
He grinned and chuckled, looking over at the little sand castle.
"It's perfect."

Perfect might not have been the right word for it.... Since the sand was so dry, and the moisture on her hands had only made the grains stick to her rather than to each other, as soon as the word 'perfect' had came from Alexei's mouth, half of it slid down itself and became lopsided. Adara couldn't help but laugh, rolling with his tug on her hand.

"It's ok. We don't need a full castle to live happily," she smiled up at him, now that she was laying beside him in the sand. "I know. I'm a little bit nuts. I think it's a bit by choice, since it's almost a complete one-eighty from how I used to be."

The girl paused for a moment, captivated by the lowering light gleaming in his fascinating eyes. A brief second went by where her smile went softer and her expression was something of admiration, before she grinned up at him again and giggled, "Good thing for me that you like it, huh?"

Alexei cooed sympathetically as her poor little sand castle fell apart, shifting himself back up into his elbow and letting his eyes fall on her. The setting sun made the tiny rivulets of water that still sat on her skin glisten, making her seem to shimmer with the refracted light, and Alexei thought to himself it was the most beautiful thing he'd seen. It put an introspective smile on his face as he looked down at her.

When she giggled, it brought him back from his reverence and his mouth split into a grin to match hers.
"Good. And if anyone does not like, I have some things to say to them."
His protectiveness was mostly in jest, because he knew she could take care of herself just fine. After all, she was an accomplished SeeD, and she wasn't even out of her teens. It made him admire her even more.

Awwwwwwww!

She thought his protectiveness was kind of sweet and adorable. It wasn't that she didn't have faith enough to take care of herself, more that she thought it was nice to have someone who cared enough to be protective of her. She would never admit it though, as it sometimes concerned her too. The story that the headmistress had told her one day about Blank focusing on her rather than the enemy they had been fighting had stuck with the girl, and she worried that it would happen to her and Alexei as well.

But, worries for another time....

"Look at you, my big strong man. All loving and defensive of poor little me," Adara smirked and reached her hand up to run her fingers through his hair. Unfortunately, that also meant that she left a bunch of sand in his hair too.

Alexei squinted in the sunlight as her hand slipped through his hair.
"I think I am not big or strong. In the end, it is not the size that matters, it is the skill, yes?" he said, leaning in close and adding a suggestive edge to his tone.

The teen smirked at his implications and wrapped the hand resting tangled in his hair down around his shoulders and pulled him to her to kiss him in response.

"Exactly," Adara smiled up at him with a wink, still with her arm draped over his shoulders, "How much longer until sunset and we need to get back to our bottle of wine?"

Alexei turned his gaze past her towards the horizon. The sun was beginning to slip below it.
"If we head back now, we'll be at camp around twilight."
He leaned his head down to kiss her shoulder, her neck, then her lips again.

There was that tickling feeling against her neck again, and the tiny giggle that always accompanied it, but it was cut short when he kissed her lips again. Which she wasn't going to complain about at all.

"So... we should head back then before we miss it, right?" Adara turned to see how far along the day's ending was but left herself wrapped around him in the sand.

Alexei was reluctant to leave their little island paradise, but it was going to get chilly once the sun went down.
"Yeah, I think we should. We are not wanting to be caught out here after darkness."
He would have gotten up, but Adara was still curled around him, so he allowed her to take her time.

User Image"Well then," she grinned and kissed his cheek before using him as leverage to get to her feet, "let's go finish getting drunk and watch the sun go down!"

Adara was about to make a head start into the water when she paused and turned back to her half formed pile of a sand castle. She dropped to her knees and pushed the sand together again to make the cone-shaped mound once more, packing it tightly so that it wouldn't slide apart as quickly this time. Once she was satisfied with her re-creation, she took her pinky finger and in the sand in front of the 'castle', away from the water, she wrote 'A + A' in letters that were bigger than the width of her pile of sand.

"There. No one can steal this spot because it has our names on it," Adara smiled at him.

She stayed that way for only a second before she scrambled, laughing, to her feet and bolted for the water, almost knocking over her sand castle in the process. She knew that he wasn't going to let her win this time and that even though she was giving herself a head start that Alexei was probably going to beat her, but she was going to make him try at least. She wasn't the greatest swimmer, but she would make it there.
