Tucking the flower into her hair Lin led the way to the barracks. Honestly she had been there so many times growing up she could probably get there blindfolded if she needed to.
Miyuki giggled at Earendil and gurgled at him. Even blew a few saliva bubbles.

Once upstairs, there was a bit of light in the hall, at least enough to see silhouettes of door frames. Sunlight was making its way in through the two doorways at the far end of the hall: Aerin and Caranthir's quarters.
"Does that mean they're in?" Earendil asked curiously, continuing forward.

Lin tilted her head, "I don't know... it's still day light so it could just be their curtains open."
Being on the second floor there was no reason to leave their curtains closed unlike the way Aragost did when she was younger.

"I guess we'll find out," Earendil shrugged, continuing onward.
After all they were very nearly there.
But as they approached, a shadow passed over the light, blocking it momentarily. It seemed someone was in after all.

"Huh...." Lin murmured at where the light had disappeared, "It looks like someone is home."
Which was good, it meant they didn't have to look around if it turned out no one was home. She knocked on the door where there had been a shadow blocking the light.

"Come in," Caranthir's voice welcomed them from the direction of Aerin's door.
Earendil chuckled. "They must both be in there. I can't see him going into Aerin's room if she's not there."
He opened the door and let Lin go in first.

Stepping in Lin greeted both Caranthir and Aerin happily. She didn't question why Caranthir was in Aerin's room, the two were partners long before they came to Haven and all that. There was a level of trust there.
"How are you both doing?"

"About as well as can be expected," Caranthir replied, looking over at Aerin, who was standing by the window and looking out. "Anxious to be going, I suppose. Knowing what has to be done, and then sitting here and simply waiting, is very difficult ... for both of us."
He motioned to the pile of bags on the floor near the wall beside the door. "She's been ready since the day we discussed it."

Lin glanced at the bags, she wondered if this meant it would best for Aerin, Caranthir, Rhea and Aurin to just simply leave for the island as soon as they were finished with their Eastland trip.
"We'll be leaving for the Eastland the day after tomorrow if it makes you feel any better..."

Aerin turned away from the window.
"It does," she replied softly but firmly. "And I hope that all goes well there, and that we can return in good time ... it pains me to sit still while my people suffer."
Caranthir put one hand on her shoulder and spoke to her softly. "We spoke about this," he told her in her own tongue. "No pressure. You have been gone so long, a month or so longer will make no difference."

Perhaps they really should talk about when Rhea and Aurin would want to head back. Lin wasn't quite sure yet if she wanted to travel with Miyuki so young (even though technically Aramarhic had been born on the ship).
Otherwise, they wanted to stay the winter.
Besides she really didn't want to take Miyuki there of all places, not now.
"It'll be okay, you'll see. We'll make it to the Eastland in good time too, since we won't be going by horseback."

Aerin nodded. "Captain Striate would go nowhere without Skyel," she murmured, her eyes growing soft. "They have been together for longer than I have been alive."
"Eight thousand years, if what I've heard is correct," Earendil suggested.
Aerin laughed softly, surprising him.
"Longer than that," she told him, her green eyes sparkling brightly. "Much, much longer than that."

"How long do rocs live?" Lin finally asked.
She knew they lived a long time but how long was a long time? Did any of them grow old enough to maybe even meet old age?

Aerin thought about it for a moment. She knew the creatures weren't immortal, but sometimes they lived so long that it could seem like it.
"To my knowledge, the oldest roc on Amon Darthir is close to fifteen thousand years old," she murmured. "Skyel has got to be close to twelve thousand by now. Captain Striate was the one who trained her, and he's not much older than that, I don't think. But he was a Wing Rider at a very young age ..."

Despite the fact Lin was use to elves and their 'old' ages, it was just kind of amazing to hear how old Captain Striate could be. That and it was kind of strange to her.
"That's... a very long time."
A long time to get attracted to a creature, who knew an animal could live that long.
