How is it that some of my good friends know where their families originate from, but I don't?

I feel so... cultureless....
My student says her family might be from sweden,
Another friend says that back in the days her family must have came from austria.
... Everyone's doing research for their roots except me...
....
I don't really know anything about me or blood relations.
All I know is that my great grandparents were from this island, moved to cuba to have children, my grandmother had my mom there and my mom came back to the island and had me...
.... It's like the salmon run. =n =
Only less interesting.
I know nothing about my roots! D:<

Nor do I know anything about my dad.
If I ask my mom, I feel like she'll have all these weird thoughts and facial expressions that I wouldn't even know how to respond to and I feel like I wouldn't get anything out of her.

Many people don't know about their roots and I myself got to know only recently ;_;..It's really hard to research Family roots X_X
But well you at least know something and you have a hint right?You can try asking your grandparents if they are alive.They are bound to know something ;3
I am a mix of German/Russian and a little bit of lithuanian...My great Great grandmother was German and My great great grandfather was a Russian who went to live in Germany..They had children and one of them was my grandmother..She married a Lithuanian man and both of them went to live in Latvia for a reason unknown even till this day..Seriously why didn't they stay in Lithuania?And each time I ask my mom she just shrugs me off..
And then they had my mom..Well I only know my roots only from my mothers side and I know nothing about the roots from my father's side..Well besides the fact that he isn't pure blood latvian X_X

Whoa. You guys have such an awesome family backround o 3o.
All I know, was my ancestors came from China, they went to Taiwan, and after my mom and dad married, they came here to the U.S. to have me (thus I am convinced I'm 100% Chinese).
The only thing remotely interesting was that my great grandmother of my mother's side had like... a dozen babiez, and my grandma got to kill chickens the hard way as a kid.

I only know that my dad is dominican and "tried" to take me with him. ._.
I think he left the island because he grew bored and a bit childish and ran off to the states. He lives in Boston and married another lady.

Hi guys~~
Ooh, family backgrounds? You guys all seem so interesting and varied!
My Dad came here (London) from Mauritius when he was 12, but he was the only one out of his 10 siblings to do so, and my Mum's Indian, and only came to London when my parents married (it was an overseas arranged marriage). But all my siblings and I where born here in England~ I think my Dad's side completely Mauritian, and Mum's side's completely Indian, but I could be wrong...
Ahh, Anais, that's such a pretty name~~ ^__^
