what's so bad about having your instrument have the name "french" in it? even if it isn't where it came from...who cares? stop being so dang sensitive o.O i mean..there's a lot of worse things that could happen than having your instrument be named "french" horn

I agree, who gives a crap if 'french' is in the name of your instrument, its just like French fries, they're not actually from France, but who cares?!? I think the name french horn is unique and it should stay that way.

Hey I'm a french horn player and the section leader of the french horns at my school! I love the french horn and next year im playing the mellophone! yay a marching french horn with trumpet fingings! haha i already learned then tho. I was surprised that i found this. There wasn't one on the page and I went to subforums and TADA!! haha I'm happy I found this... oh and a weird thing happend to me. When i was playing my double french horn the thumb part or B(flat) just unscrewed and we had to stop the whole ensamble and fix it. It got me mad, but I fixed it thanks to my long nails (: -Juliet

i have been playing french horn for a few years and i love it my mother played it and i am playing it and now my sister is playing it. but I hate my band director because i have wanted him to switch me to first chair because this only year the first french horn was not practicing as much as he should so now next year i am going to be first french horn and people in the section can challenge you. but anyway i love mellophone to because it is so cool how it is a trumpet and french horn combined into one. lol

iOggy Aryah awwe, oggy *pats his shoulder* I love the mouthpiece... and pretty much everything about it. Especially the sound! .... I was never able to stand playing by myself on trumpet, but on the french horn I can. *lol* But the mouthpiece is so SMALL! Plus, the mellophone's hell to march. Big flared bell... blaugh i hate marching with the mellophone its so easy to jogel the sound!

katie4545 Hey french horns are awesome end of story even though there not French thats how the name originated so the worlds not going to change the french horns name because of a few complaints. What about all-county Did anyone make all-county Uh...didn't they change the name? All my college professors refer to it as the horn. I only call it the French horn for clarification, as when you say "horn" most people have no idea what you're talking about. Either way, we don't need to get into an argument about this. It is your personal preference whether to call something a horn or a French horn. As we all play this beautiful instrument, I'm sure we can figure out that "horn" and "French horn" mean the same thing and stop arguing about who's right and who's wrong.

many people refer to instruments as horns. wether they are french horns or not. my band directors do. even the one that also plays the french horn.
