"You're awake," Maia observed. "The bakery sounds lovely," she smiled at him. He was busy brushing his teeth or she would have given him a hug. "I'm really excited. You'll go swimming with me?"

"Yeah, it should be warm enough," Toby said around a mouthful of minty foam. He held up a finger then to take a moment and spit in the kitchen sink, then ran the water to rinse it away. He returned to Maia then and smiled.
"Do you want to take the boat out too or not today?"

"Let's take it," Maia said, after a moment of consideration. "Let's go fast." She remembered how Toby had seemed to enjoy their boat rental in Oregon. "Do you think we'll stay long enough to need lunch? I could pack something."

"Alright," Toby agreed. Hopefully the lake would be mostly abandoned so they could go fast. Floating was fun too, just not nearly as much. "That depends on how long we stay. I could always run out to get us lunch if we need it. Should we just bring lunch? I'll make it, you get ready."

"Oh, like a picnic. We could do that. Eat out on the water." It'd be nice. No sharks to worry about. No jellyfish. No hungry whales. Nothing that could ruin their day. She nodded and went to go get ready. "Tell me if you need any help."

"Alright, will do." Toby went for the kitchen then, looking first for is cooler and then for the various accouterments to a picnic lunch. Man, when was the last time he had even been on one? It wasn't like Dari was much of an eater.
"What do you want, Maia?!" he shouted up the stairs, no bothering to actually be near them.

Maia considered his question while fixing her hair. She was getting used to the necessity of it. Not brushing made her hair floof. Pieces of it would stick up. Bleh. "Sandwiches?" She called back down. What did people bring on picnics? Cookies, pies, chips--but those were probably when the picnic wasn't planned on a whim.
She finished, climbing down the stairs. "I don't know. What do you want?"

By the time Maia came back downstairs, Toby was halfway through making sandwiches.
"Food," he responded helpfully and smiled. Dari was sitting at the dining room table, all made up and with his hat and glasses.

"Are we ready to go? How do we take the boat? Oh. I know. You hook it to The back of the car, don't you?" She'd seen a few people do that. She didn't like that Dari had to be all made up--but at least he would be able to enjoy the sunlight and being on the water!

"Just about," Toby said with a nod, tucking one sandwich away and working on completing the other. "Yup, that's about it. Dari, do you want to show her?"
"Sure," Dari replied, rising from his seat. "Come on. We have to get it out of the garage."

Maia followed Dari out into the garage. "I know you probably won't be able to swim today. So after work or during lunch, do you want to swim with me at HQ?" She knew it was probably a poor substitute for swimming out in the sun, but it'd been fun last time.

Dari smiled as he raised the garage door. It had been a while since they; brought the boat out for an afternoon. He thought maybe he could be the cause of some of it. He wasn't always very excited about going out to be among any of the rest of humanity. It took a lot of work.
"Sure, if you'd like," he replied. It seemed like Maia just wanted to keep things 'fair,' but who was he to deny a friend?
It wasn't long before the trio reached the lake. It was populated but not crowded. Toby slowed and turned to Maia. "Boat or swim first?"

"Swim," Maia said. She'd been looking forward to that most. "I brought my swimsuit." Brought here meaning that It was on under her dress. She had opted for leaving her pelt at home today. While Arizona locale weren't likely to assume they had a selkie at the lake, she didn't want to take any chances. "I've been practicing."
Swimming as a human was more difficult than she'd ever imagined, but she'd finally gotten the hang of it.

Toby nodded and parked. They'd have to come back to get the car and boat when they decided they wanted to go out on the water but that wasn't the worst thing in the world. It wasn't like they could go swimming in the boating area.
Toby got out of the car with his cooler and his bag of things; sunscreen, towels, a few books, and headed for the lake. The beach was not as large as some of those in Oregon what with this only being a lake, but it was pretty decent. There were only a few people out this early.
Toby was wearing his swimsuit under his cargo shorts and moved to an empty spot to set up camp, laying down an enormous beach towel that Dari immediately plopped down on and made himself comfortable. The makeup was waterproof, but it just wasn't worth the risk.

Maia followed Toby onto the beach. There were only a few people out, but Dari seemed to not want to swim even so. She pulled off her sundress and placed it near Dari. "We'll go swimming at HQ," She promised. He didn't seem particularly unhappy, though.
"Go get ready," she instructed Toby.
