“Oh, there’s one more thing, the reason I think you’ll be busy today,” Jaden said, standing up and brushing off his pant legs. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a crumpled flier before handing it to Riza. “Mom gave me this before I came here last night. Apparently there’s a big beach party of sorts going on today in Slateport City, and we all think it would be a good idea if you went. There’ll be lots of kids there and it would probably be good for you to make some friends.”
Riza frowned as she read the writing on the flier. She wasn’t exactly the party type and she didn’t do well with large crowds. Not only that, but Slateport was all the way in Hoenn, if her geography was correct. “And how do you intend for me to get there on such short notice?” she asked hotly, crumpling it up and tossing it on the ground by Jaden’s feet. “What if I don’t want to go?”
Jaden smirked and picked up the balled-up flier from the ground and tried to smooth it out. “I figured you’d say that,” he said with a shrug. “And no one is forcing you to go, it’s just that Hoenn is primarily where Pokemon Contests originated from and we all kind of assumed that the best place to learn about Pokemon coordinating would be where the contests themselves were created. Only recently has the contest fever been sweeping other regions, apparently they’ve been holding contests over there for decades.”
Riza took in this new information and sighed, exchanging glances with Sneasel. “All right, fine. I’ll go, but you’re getting me there. By the way, how do you plan on doing THAT, Mr. Smartypants?”

Watching the battle Robin was pretty impressed, according to her pokedex Beldum only had one move it could use and Jaeshan seemed to be doing well despite that. She wasn't going to gripe about her pokemon not knowing very many moves anymore, she hadn't really before but she was going to make a point of it now. She would just have to train her pokemon to use the moves they did know better now. Grinning she reached up and scratched Luffy behind his ears, well she would have to do more training tomorrow, since today was a party and she didn't really feel like it. After this battle Robin was going to make sure she got some swimming in, maybe she could convince Jaeshan to go swimming with her and her pokemon to. At that thought Robin couldn't help the flush spread over her freckled cheeks. Well maybe not, at least she would have fun with her pokemon.
On his chair Ampersand watched the battle from behind his glasses. He really would like to take a nap but it didn't seem he would be able to here. What with there either being a lot of noise from a battle or it was kinda creepy that some people were staring at him. Groaning slightly he figured he would have to turn in early tonight or something.

Riza was forced to eat her words as Jaden sent out his amazing pidgeot, and very soon Jaden, Riza and Sneasel had climbed onto the back of the large and powerful-looking bird and they were suddenly flying westward through the sky. Riza had never flown before so at first she was completely terrified, but as they flew on and on she soon grew accustomed to it and her fear quickly dissipated as she placed her trust in the mighty bird Pokemon. She wondered if some day she would own a Pokemon she could trust with her life and go soaring through the skies with. “Where are we going?” she called out, most of her voice drowned out by the wind.
“Olivine City,” Jaden called back, deciding to finish the explanation once they’d touched down in the port town. The pidgeot’s amazing speed quickly ate up the distance between them and Olivine and after a half-hour flight, they landed in front of the Pokemon Center.
Riza looked around curiously, her gaze coming to rest on the tall lighthouse that seemed to be the major landmark of the town. The air was tangy with the salt of the sea but Riza felt strangely comfortable here. Sneasel hopped down from the pidgeot’s back, also looking around quite intently. “Say Jaden isn’t there a Pokemon gym in this city?” Riza asked, turning to her brother as he thanked pidgeot for the safe and speedy ride before putting it back in its ball.
“Yep,” he nodded, pointing in the general direction of it. “I believe the gym leader here is Jasmine. She’s a very kind and soft-spoken person, but she’s one of the fiercest battlers I’ve ever met,” he added, a hint of nostalgia in his voice.
“You’ve battled her before then?” Riza asked, intrigued. Her brother never had been one to spill the details of his journey, and a glimpse into his trials and accomplishments would be somewhat of a motivator for her. When Jaden nodded, Riza grinned. “Cool,” she said. “Did you win?”
“Not at first, but when we had a rematch I did. Probably one of my most memorable matches. I’d show you the badge but I left them at Dad‘s house for safe keeping.”

Ryka jolted up her bed. The sun's rays streamed through the window (which had very fancy curtains on it) and streaked over her face. She quickly jumped in the shower, brushed her teeth, and got ready for the party. She slipped on a pretty purple (no surprise!) bikini -- not to revealing, mind you -- and a white swimmy-type skirt to cover up her legs. She put on sandals, grabbed her Pokeballs and bag, and rushed on out, gratefully thanking the bellhop on the way out of the hotel.
"I still can't believe how fancy that was.. I'll have to thank Jae a million times." Ryka muttered to Iris, who was walking next to her trainer. As they exited the hotel, Ryka noticed the city for the first time. It seemed to have transformed overnight. Tons of people were walking around, as the festivities seemed to just be starting. Ballons were everywhere. There were also a few clumps of crowds surrounding battles. As she scanned them for Jaeshan, she noticed a large mass of blue. What? She quickly glanced over it, but it was a very curious thing.
She recognized the tall blond as soon as she saw him. He had no shirt on, making Ryka stare a bit. She shook her head, thinking about how silly she was, ans stumbld over towards the crowd. She found a spot near the front with a clear view of the battle between Jaeshan and a pretty blond. On the field, she spotted her little Beldum and a Clefairy.
"Come on Beldum! You can take her!" Ryka cheered, making sure not to yell in the red-head-next-to-her's ear. Iris mewed loudly, cheering for the tall blond boy she recognized.

"Use Ember, Cyndaquil!" Kurine called to her Pokemon. Still trying to blink sand from his eyes, the fire-type opened his mouth and let of a small stream of fire at Ricky's Pidgey as the flames on his back flared, managing to hit the bird Pokemon and knocking it backwards a bit from the force of the flames.
"Tackle!" Ricky commanded, and his Pidey let out a squawk and charged at Cyndaquil, knocking him over with surprising force. Kurine had Cyndaquil use a Tackle of his own, but soon both Pokemon were standing at opposite sides of the field, Ricky's Pidgey now awaiting his trainer's next command.
"Pidgey, use Gust now," Ricky said. His Pidey rose into the air and flapped its wings, sending a blast of air at Cyndaquil, knocking the Pokemon over.
"Cyndaquil!" Kurine cried, seeing now that the Pidgey was stronger than she had first thought. "Smokescreen!" Cyndaquil opened his mouth and let out a long stream of smoke, which soon filled the entire field that the two Pokemon were battling on. Kurine hoped that this would help her Cyndaquil out, so that he could still win, even if he was weaker.

After about fifteen minutes of trying to stay awake, then train finally pulled into the station. Train stood up and walked to one of the doors, handing the conductor who was standing outside of it her ticket. He punched a hole in it and then gave it back to Train, who shoved it into her pocket and walked on board the train, plopping down on a seat, Pikachu settling down next to her. No sooner had the train pulled away than Train herself had fallen asleep quietly in the nearly deserted train car.

M.A. grinned as her bare feet hit the warm sand, her toes wiggling through it, grasping, letting go, grasping. It felt so good! The sun, the breeze, the sand, everything. She grinned from ear to ear, closing her eyes as she faced the welkin skies, just feeling the invisible rays fall upon her freckled cheeks. To avoid looking like a lunatic who had stopped in the middle of nowhere with her eyes closed, M.A. took a deep, contented sigh, and continued to walk on.
Daemyn wasn't too great of a fan of the sand, as running kids kept kicking up the minuscule grains into his eyes, but ah well. He wasn't a fan of a lot of things.
All around, trainers were battling, sunbathing, playing in the water with friends or family. A pang of regret there, that her own kin wasn't around; the last time they'd gone to the beach, it had been a family affair. But that had been years ago now, and she knew her parents were busy with whatever and Sae was... (M.A. smirked, then frowned very quickly) busy too, maybe. Well, at least she'd have lunch with them later.
She was so absorbed with staring at the lovely sea and all the beach-goers (more particularly, the shirtless hunks of all sort that were scattered around the area) that she promptly bumped into some blonde trainer, nearly tottering into an umbrella from the surprised rebound. "Sorry! I wasn't paying attention," she laughed in one breath, amused by her clumsiness although obviously repetent for it. Oh. Wait. She knew this one!
"Oh! Kasiya?" she asked, although the smile was already huge on her face.

((Yuu! You rawk... I was stuck and had no idea what to write next! blaugh )) It didn't take very long for Kasiya to forget why she was wandering along the beach in the first place. She'd forgotten a very crucial aspect of the art of beach going - the fact that there were tons of cute boys wearing only their swimming trunks. Any previous modestly that Kasiya may have felt earlier was practically gone now, but that was probably due to the fact that she was getting a decent amount of looks from the boys. If anything it made her feel a little better about herself.
She passed by a rather attractive and tall boy with dark brown hair, smiling back when he smiled and nodded at her. Naturally, she was too busy flirting with this attractive young man to really pay attention to where she was going and even with Shocker tapping her on the head and trying to warn her. At the very last possible second Kasiya managed to stop herself from falling over and/or dropping the egg in the process. "It's okay, I wasn't paying attention either," she giggled sheepishly, trying to get one last good look at the cute boy before turning to face the girl she'd nearly stumbled into. It took a split second for her to recognize the brunette and she blinked a few times, her smile growing wider, if it was even possible. "M.A.!" she cried happily. "Good to see you!" She did realize it would be pretty redundant to ask why she was here, as it was fairly obvious already. Shocker just sighed and patted her trainer on the head. Sometimes Kasiya could be so... ridiculous.
=-=-=-=-= Without even thinking about it Jaeshan immediately looked around when he heard his name being called by a familiar voice. Very quickly he spotted Ryka amongst the crowed, as she'd managed to position herself right next to Robin. Jaeshan waved at her, a bit of red creeping back into his cheeks after all the effort to push it away. He hoped he wouldn't make a mistake with both Ryka and Robin cheering him on.
Once again Beldum launched itself at the Clefairy, only to be sidestepped by the latter. Stacey ordered the Fairy to counter with a Doubleslap and Jaeshan couldn't help but wonder if the girl even knew what she was doing. The Clefairy attacked again, slapping Beldum across the 'face' five times. Beldum hardly even flinched from the weak hits, but it did register one thing: the Clefairy had left itself wide open to another attack, which Beldum quickly took advantage of. The Clefairy took this Take Down right to the abdomen, and it went spiraling head over tail and landing pretty much like it did before. Another murmur went through the crowd but it was too early to tell if most of them had picked a side to cheer for.

“So just where are we going?” Riza asked as Jaden lead her and Sneasel through the streets of Olivine City. So far Jaden hadn’t really said why they were here but as they approached the waterfront Riza began to suspect it had something to do with seafaring. Sneasel followed along quietly, her normally excitable attitude was somewhat subdued, probably by the fact that she was in a brand new place.
Jaden continued to remain silent even as they approached a mid-sized ship. He seemed to be looking for something, and he let out a happy ‘Aha’ when he found what he wanted. “You two wait here,” he told Riza and Sneasel, before heading off towards a smaller building nearby.
Riza couldn’t quite see from where she was just where her brother was going, and she couldn’t help but wonder what Jaden was up to. “What do you think he’s doing?” she asked Sneasel idly, who shrugged in return. As the two of them watched, people began to board the ship and suddenly Riza realized that Jaden must have gone off to get them tickets. ‘We’re going there by boat,’ Riza thought, her emotions somewhat mixed about it. First of all she was quite excited about it as she’d never been on a boat before, but then again she was also terrified of the thought of leaving dry land. Sneasel didn’t seem to care one way or the other and just continued to wait patiently for Jaden to return.
“So have you figured it out yet?” Jaden called out as he came jogging towards his sister and her Sneasel. Riza gave a sort of half-nod, to which Jaden responded by holding out a ticket to Riza. “Best get a move on, this ship will be leaving port soon.”

Riza couldn’t help but stare up at the ship as they headed towards the boarding planks. It was quite an amazing vessel and Riza couldn’t believe she was about to ride on it. Sneasel stayed right by her side the entire time, not wanting to get lost among the many people who were on the docks. When they reached the proper boarding plank Riza stepped forward and handed her ticket to the rather attractive sailor, who nodded at her and pointed to the plank. “Careful going up, it can be slippery,” he warned. Riza thanked him and did just that, holding both railings as instructed as she slowly made her way up. Sneasel crawled up on all fours just to be safe. When they reached the main deck Riza turned around to wait for Jaden, but was surprised to see the buff young sailors now removing the plank as they prepared the ship for departure.
“Jaden, aren’t you coming with us?” she called down to him. When he shook his head Riza found herself getting angry. “Well why not? You can’t just ship me off to Hoenn all by my lonesome and expect me to be happy about it!”
“That’s just it, Rizzy,” Jaden called back. “You can’t have me following you every step of the way, you’ve got to follow your own path and set your own goals. I know you, Sis, you won’t do that if I’m tagging along. Besides, I’ve done this already. But trust me, it’ll be good for you!”
“Yeah right!” Riza shouted, angry tears welling up in her eyes. She didn’t know the first thing about Hoenn and she somehow had the idea that being practically marooned there by her older brother wasn’t going to be much of a help. “Fine then, JJ, Fine! But you’d better watch out! Next time I see you I’m gonna give you the whopping of your life!” she yelled, shaking her fist at him. Jaden had called out something in return but his voice was drowned out by the bellowing sound of the ship’s foghorn. Riza realized that they’d begun to move and were pulling away from Olivine’s port. ‘God, I hope I can do this,’ Riza thought miserably, watching her brother until he was just a tiny speck in the horizon.

"Just this morning huh?" continued Sasha, either ignoring or completely oblivious to the girl's embarrassment. "What kind of Pokemon you start with? You go traditional starter from your local professor, or you go out and bag one yourself?" For a moment she was brought back to her first capture. It was at the pond that she would always walk by on the way home from school. Each day a little Chinchou would swim up to the edge of the pond and follow her while she walked past. It was cute as a button with its little cross eyes and quizzical expression; she just had to have it. She had always wanted to be a trainer, but her parents wouldn't allow it. Some garbage about being 'too vulnerable'. Nuts to them she said. One day, after sneaking away and buying a Pokeball of her own, she went and captured the little fishy.
"So," said Sasha as she snapped back from her daydream. "What kind of Pokemon did you say it was again?"

Serenity felt George nudge her shoulder. She grudingly woke up, and then remembered that she was on the ground and not in her bed. "Ack! What time is it?!" She yelled at her pokemon. She sat up quickly and started to look around to figure out exactly where she was. "Right, Slateport for the beach party." Sere pulled back the sleeping bag and crawled out so that she could get it all folded up and back into her pack. George stood not that far away watching the various things that were happening on the beach.
"Seems like a lot of people showed up during the night. It's even more busy now than it was last night, and I didn't even think that was possible." She sighed. Serenity could already feel the anxiety starting to grow in the pit of her stomach. She didn't want to be here anymore. She wanted to be on a boat out to the new region, collecting some of the new pokemon to bring back to her family's ranch.
It wasn't until after she had packed up all of her stuff that she realized that Kasiya the girl from last night wasn't there any more. It made her sad, because it meant that she had to try and weave around in all of these people by herself. The trainer had little doubt that her mudkip was going to abandon her for the water after too long, and the oddish was content to be pouting.

Very soon Riza discovered that the ship she was on was currently one of the fastest in the world and she couldn’t help but be amazed as the ship cut through the water like a hot knife through butter. Riza soon forgot her initial worries about being on the boat and she chose to just try and enjoy the ride. She didn’t know how long it would be until she could travel like this. It wasn’t even mid-morning yet and it had already been quite a day. She wondered just what this beach party thing would have in store for her and Sneasel.
Riza and Sneasel wandered around the top deck, taking in all the sights and sounds they could. Riza had first thought that not being able to see land in any direction would be unnerving but in fact it was just the opposite. Being out on the open ocean made her feel free and alive, not like how she felt when she was constantly being shuffled from her mother’s house to her father’s and vice versa. Riza sighed and sat down on a bolted-down bench on the ship’s port side. Sneasel climbed up and sat in the seat next to her, looking out over the endless blue water. ‘I wonder when we’re going to get there,’ she thought, but decided that it wouldn’t be such a bad thing if they wound up being a little bit late for the party. ‘Or if we missed it altogether,’ she added with a half-smirk.
Riza was suddenly pulled out of her thoughts though as the attractive sailor from before had approached her and tapped her on the shoulder. “Excuse me, Miss, but I couldn’t help but notice that you seem to be a bit bored,” he said, taking a step back and standing at ease. “I was wondering if I could trouble you for a quick battle to pass the time.” He doffed his sailor’s cap and bowed politely.
Riza raised an eyebrow at his actions, and frowned. “Aren’t you supposed to be on duty or working or something?” she asked. It wasn’t like she didn’t want to battle with him (actually yeah that was exactly it) but she wasn’t about to outright decline him. She remembered a while ago Jaden had said something about turning down challenges and how it was rude and stuff.
“It’s actually my break now,” the sailor said. “But if you aren’t interested that’s quite all right. I’m sure I can find some other attractive young lady who will accept,” he said, giving a bit of a defeated sigh.
“It’s not that,” Riza retorted, standing up. She was pretty much the same height as he was. “It’s just that I’m still new to all this trainer stuff and I don’t think I’d be much of an opponent for you.” From beside her Sneasel scoffed loudly. Says her!

The sailor just smiled. “That’s quite all right. Everyone has to start somewhere. How about we just have a practice battle instead. You know, for training.” As he spoke that smile never left his face. Riza couldn’t help but think that this wasn’t typical sailor behaviour but she decided to ignore it.
“That sounds like a good idea, actually,” she said, scratching the side of her head thoughtfully. Getting a few pointers from a more experienced trainer couldn’t hurt. “What do you think, Sneasel? You up for it?” Sneasel jumped up from her seat and slashed at the air with her claws. “I will take that as a yes,” Riza laughed. “So where exactly do you hold battles on a ship?” she asked the sailor.
“Since it won’t be anything big, right here is fine,” he nodded. “Oh, by the way, the name’s Thomas,” he added before taking a pokeball out of his pocket. “I think I’ve got the perfect training partner for you guys, I just caught it this morning. Little guy was messing with the lines. Good thing I stopped him before he could cause any serious damage.” With a flick of his wrist the Pokemon was summoned from its ball and it appeared on the deck at Thomas’ feet.
Again Riza wasn’t a Pokemon know-it-all so to counter her lack of knowledge she took her black and white Pokedex from her pocket and scanned the little red Pokemon in front of her. “Krabby. Known as the River Crab Pokemon, these water-types dwell in burrows they’ve dug out on sandy beaches. A Krabby’s pincers will grow back completely if they are broken off during battle.” “Funny little crab,” Riza murmured before returning to the list of previous searches to bring up Sneasel’s entry. After pressing a few buttons she brought up a list of Sneasel’s potential attacks. “Scratch… Leer… Taunt…” she read off, knowing that Sneasel wasn’t very powerful yet and some of the attacks further down in the list were more than likely out of reach. “Those are the lamest attacks ever,” she grumbled before giving Sneasel a nod. “Well, aren’t you going to get over here?”
Sneasel was standing in the same spot sulkily, not liking the fact that her very own trainer had just called her attacks lame. Begrudgingly she came forward, but not before shooting a dirty look up at Riza.

Robin was surprised when she heard a loud call for the Beldum on the field from the girl next to her. Blinking a few times Robin gave her a quick grin before she cheered herself. Heh she thought she was pretty good anyway, nuts to those cheerleaders who wouldn't let her on the team! Grinning to herself she watched the battle surprised at how much damage the Beldum could take. She had never battled a steel type before but she had heard they were really tough, well right now she was finding out just how tough they were. In a way she was kinda interested in them and maybe she could catch one. 'No that's not how I decide what kind of pokemon come with me! It doesn't matter what type or pokemon they are as long as they have that spirit that Luffy and I are looking for.' Nodding to herself Robin decided to watch the battle to see how it played out, she had a feeling that she would be seeing a lot of pokemon that would be interesting today. She really hoped that she would see a Charizard above all the others though... Those flying dragons were so cool. Maybe someday she would find one with enough spirit to join her team?
