First off, Thanks LJ. Emotional support, my teacher never gave.
From my point of few, A student's, Noe Child left behind is a program where the child is required to learn all the skills required to get into Collage first and for most before anything else. Meaning, any standardized test they take their entire school year is based around that test. For me, the Junior Gateway, 3/4 of which had nothing to do with my actual "final" final, what I just took. It's a stupid system because with the school hours and days, you don't have enough time to teach stuff that's useful to life unless you become a mathematician.
Me: I want to specialize in computers when I go to collage.
Number of computer related courses: 2
Number Taken: 0
Number will take: 0
Why? Because it's not required by the collages for the school to teach therefore my entire year will be devoted towards simply passing.
And I just found out they added a year of History and language, which means after I, all the students in my county will have only one true elective their senior year.
Hm... did I go off topic? confused

Ug, I'm slacking on my posting duties and I apologize. Both jobs have me terribly busy. I will have posts done today.
We will be starting the Genosha trip this weekend so expect a flash forward. Some people hate flash forwards, but I find when time moves too slowly between plots, folks get disinterested in their characters. It happens to all of us.
Revan, No Child Left Behind needs repealed. It just doesn't do what it needs to do. I think our entire system is a joke anyway. Not every kid is going to college, that's a fact. Some folks need to train in specialities because that's what they're good at. My cousin, for example, is not going to go to college but he would benefit from learning landscaping and carpentry classes that his district doesn't provide him.
I also kind of think high school, at least, should have some other system. So many kids are pushed ahead in school when they shouldn't be. Maybe a new method is needed... for example, get rid of 'grades' per say. Make them credit levels or something. You pass Alegebra when you're ready to and you get your 3 credits in it or something. But to graduate high school you need X number of credits in X number of areas.... this might help eliminate the pressures students face of passing an entire 'grade' or something... I don't know, but something needs reworked.

I completely agree with you there LJ. If only it were so simple. Because, that is technically how they do things, to an extent. You need X amount of Carnage(sp?) Points to be considered a Sophomore, Junior, and Senior. For every class, passed, you get .5 points. The minimal required to get to the next grade level officially is 5.0 for Sophmore, 12.0 to be a Junior, 180.0 to Senior, and by the end you must have a total of 22.0 or greater to graduate. The points are what I remember from the top of my head and are earned respectfully the school year before.(Freshmen point count towards Sophomore, ect.)
But the thought of having the choice of classes would be nice. I mean, I thought that's what high school was about. But Collages, or the ones that our state support, say you need to have these this amount of so-and-so classes to get in. For example: 4 years of Math, 4 Years of Language, 3 Years of History(even though your freshmen year is waisted on World Geography[not required] because of what is on the Gateway), 2 years of foreign language(3 years now), 3 years of science, 1 semester of Physical education and 1 of Health(I can understand these two), and one Applications class(From Home ec to Band).
If you do the math(no pun intended below): Six Periods in a School Day
Freshman Year: 6 classes all required
Sophomore Year: 6 classes all required
Junior Year: 6 classes, All required
Senior Year: 6 Classes, Three(only two now) open electives.
This is also only the Collage Prep course.
There is a technical course which give the impression that the student is retarded. If you wanted to do nothing but sleep all year, you would ask to be on the technical track. Which mean you can go to a technical college. Which is what I plan on doing and I'm on CP. The system is full of errors, loop holes, and unfair advantages, including the AP track. I understand that AP is supposed to be harder, but everyone in my school in AP has a GPA of like 105 because with AP you instantly get 10 points added on to your grade. No offense to any AP people here. I just think adding 10 points because you are getting Collage Credit is a unfair plus to everyone else.
Well, I guess I'm done venting. For now. stare

I have to have 24 credits to graduate. But we're on block so its eight classes a year and not six or seven. I hate the system too. So don't get me wrong. I know where you're coming from.

We only have four a semester, eight total for the whole year. But the classes are 90 minutes a piece.

Okay, now I'm actually confused. You mean two semesters of four classes or eight diffrent classes in a school year.

Put it this way. This was my freshman year: 1st block 8:30 to ten something - art; 2nd block whenever first ended you have five minutes to get to the next class to 11:40, after that was lunch. After lunch at 12:35 was 3rd block - history which went until 1:30 I think and last block was chorus.
Then after Jan. we switched classes. I had French until ten like the first time. Second was English. Except this time I went to third because of where my third block class was. I had gym. Then lunch then science. Depending on if your class was upstairs or downstairs at third decided where you went for lunch.
Did that help any?

A cat? Wow, you look more like an Isis than a Bast.
And to be honest, that just made my head spin. But I can somewhat make sense of that.

It can be confusing at first. But I love this system so much more then a normal class. I've tried both and I can focus more with the block and have more time to myself and less homework cause I get it all done in class.
