Children Of The Flame

The girl blushed faintly. "Of course," she nodded.

She knew better than the way she had been acting, and only now did she realize that she was doing exactly what she was always told not to do. She wasn't supposed to make it seem as if she knew everything, or make others feel ignorant, or tell them what they didn't know ... and any time they received guests (which, granted, was not often), she was supposed to take them directly to her parents, and in the case that they weren't available she was supposed to take them to the house and let them wash up and rest.

"Follow me," she beckoned, and turned and started skipping towards the large house that could be seen just to one side of the lane.

Haradhel ignored Lin stepping on her heels and led the children into the smaller training area.

It was about ten feet wide and twenty feet long, and had a roof overhead. She had often wondered what exactly it was meant for ... even the smaller classes usually took place outside, and it wasn't as if there was weather that needed to be worried about ... it never rained or stormed, after all. In fact, she had never seen so much as a cloud in her life.

"Okay, come here you two and I'll show you how best to hold your staffs," she called, kneeling to the floor so that she was a bit closer to the children's heights.

"Okay!"

Lin took three large steps forward, manuvering herself so she was standing right in front of Haradhel. She looked up, it was a good thing Haradhel was kneeling otherwise she wouldn't be able to see her face! And that was no good.

Lore shifted the bags a bit so he could comfortably hold Elnara's hand. He agreed though there was rest to be had, though more for Elnara's sake than his.

Elnara let her fingers slide comfortably into Lore's hand and followed after Seeker towards the house. She felt a strange mixture of emotions, watching it draw nearer ... memories, both good and bad (though mostly good), anxiety, excitement ...

"So how old are you, Seeker?" she asked the girl curiously. It would give her a bit of an idea how long her brother and her best friend had been married, though it was really no more than a clue.

Celebor took a position next to Lin, trying not to fidget too much. He was excited, but he knew that too much fidgeting could just annoy his teacher and make the lessons take longer than they were supposed to.

"I'm six," the girl grinned at Elnara, skipping slightly as she led them forward. "Well, six and a half."

She hummed softly to herself, giggling every once in a while as if at some private joke.

Ahead of them, the house stood, three storeys of splendour. The shutters and windows were all open, and a lone porch swing rocked gently in the warm desert breeze on the wraparound porch.

Two elves were presently coming around the side of the porch, both male, one about the same height as Seeker, and one about a foot taller.

Haradhel reached out and took hold of each of the children's staffs, holding them horizontally in front of them.

"Grab them from the top," she instructed them, "and hold them in the middle, or as close to it as you can get. This gives you balance as you're going through your routine."

Lin looked at it for a moment, she grabbed the top, and then the middle, placing the hand she often wrote with in the middle. She had a good grip, which wasn't hard since the staff was made for her size. Though it felt funny doing it, but she supposed... it was always like that for the first time. Like trying to do katas for the first time now that felt weird.

Lore had to admit that was quite young, though she talked a bit older. Not a lot, but she knew a lot more than a six year old would, he had that feeling. He couldn't quite place it though.

If Daemon knew about Elnara and Lore's visit, he wisely kept it to himself instead of telling Gion. Well... actually it had gotten to the point over the years where he had to work hard to keep visions from Gion, it was one of the things about having your abilities spill over like that. He wondered if the effects would become permament, he wouldn't know until he got out.

First though was manifesting, which he hadn't try yet, though he promised himself soon. Like.. in the next few days maybe today soon. He had been working for years up to this point.

Elnara spotted the two approaching elves and recognized her brother only by his height - though truth be told she couldn't help but wonder if he might not have grown a bit in the fifteen years or so since she had been gone.

"Your father and brother?" she asked Seeker, pointing ahead at the two who were approaching. She was certain of the answer, but still ... she needed to be sure.

Celebor did just as Haradhel told him, though he wasn't exactly sure what balance meant. Something about not falling over all the time, was all he knew.

"Got it," he grinned at his future aunt. "Now what?"

Seeker giggled again. "Sure are!" she affirmed. "Papa and Galdor, I told you they were coming! Even though nobody told them that you were coming, unless Daemon told, he sometimes tells Papa things and sometimes doesn't."

The two approaching elves seemed to spot the group, because both of them started to run forwards, towards them.

Haradhel nodded at the two of them. "Good," she smiled. "Now ..."

She wiggled back a bit so that there was some space between herself and the children, then picked up her own staff and held it as she had shown the two of them.

"Hold it steady, and then-"

She raised it slightly, then twisted it around and pointed it down at the floor, holding it at her side.

"Slowly first, then faster with practice."

Lin had to blink and process it for a moment, because like any staff moment it happened quickly, in where she wasn't quite sure what just happened. Slowly.... right... she thought to herself as she tried to twist it the way she saw it done.

Of course, she had never done anythign like this before, and she lost grip on her staff. The little girl puckered her lips thoughtfully as she picked it back up and tried again.

"Who's Daemon?" Lore inquired.

Of course Lore didn't know about grandfather Winters, who had the unfortunate luck of locking himself up in his wife's sword. Though he did noted how out of place the name sounded.
