:::She realized that he must not be as educated about the matter... as would expected for the time frame in which they used FEVs on humans. The test subjects weren't usually 1st class citizens:::
Of course... I'm sorry, Johnathan. Didn't mean it to offend you. It's just...
:::She smirked, though a bit sadly::: I don't like to think that you insite a panic reaction here to people who haven't met you.
:::Cora walked over to Luana::: Are you alright?

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine." The glass that she could barely keep a grip on insisted otherwise. She leaned her weapon against the bar and tried to appear calm.

:::She looked straight at Luana as she said it, though she was adressing Johnathan...:::
Yes well, sometimes we must question the causes that lead our lives in directions like these, Johnathan... Fate might follow our lead more than we like to think...

Luana set the glass down and resumed massaging her hands.
"Maybe," she said quietly.

Slowly the great beast began to fade, "A sssoldierr only followsss orrderrsss." And with that, he was gone.

:::Cora watched him fade, and her shoulders slumped and she sighed:::
That was Kane... he used to be Johnathan Hunter.
:::She grabbed a seat next to Luana and swung it so she could sit facing her:::
He once taught me a few things about dancing... but now he couldn't hold my hand if wanted to, and neigther of us know what for.

Luana looked down at her drink, then back up at Cora. "Why would anybody do that to someone?"

To create an army... to tip the power in your own favor... because technology makes war more fun for the old people in charge and hell for young people duped into it.
:::She rubbed her arm:::
I was no better. I'm injected with a lot of viruses that are hundreds of years advanced to the FEV. And lots of other chemicals that altered my genetics to make me a more powerful soldier.

Luana sighed. "I guess we're not much better either. My father has Andrew on a bunch of drugs to help support the machine parts, strengthen the organic ones, speed healing..." She came around and leaned back against the bar while talking to Cora. "He's even asked a couple of times if I would be willing to take anything to make this easier, but I won't take anything except the occasional pain killer or sleep aid."

:::Cora shook her head and looked incredulously at Luana:::
Your friend has been given machine parts..? To sustain him? :::She huffed::: And your own father doesn't take all that as a hint? That the same thing could happen to his daughter? What do YOU think? Would he mind if his daughter ended up just like Andrew?

"If I don't do something, I will end up just like Andrew," she said. "Left eye, left arm, both legs, his heart... It's all machine now. It's because my father was too lax in security that old enemies were able to get to us; get to Andrew. Now he's not even sure that increasing security will even be enough."
She sank into a chair. Why was she even talking to Cora about this? Wasn't she an enemy? Well, enemy or not, she needed someone to talk to.
"He says all of this is for my protection."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but by the looks of it, you don't feel safe.
Luana, I understand taking measures of precaution, and even shelter for those who need it. But you're putting your safety on the line, not to mention putting yourself on a path... and you're seeing where its leading you. People like me and Johnathan didn't get to see it before we knew what was happening.
:::Cora released a breathe through her nose, crossed her arms and leaned back:::
I can't tell you what to do. I'm not your commanding officer. But as a favor, to yourself... be absolutely sure you know what it is you're fighting for before you enter the battle.
This place has a way of shifting your perspective. I know from personal experience. And you might be lucky enough to get a good look at your life... before you step in a direction you don't want to go in.

"I honestly don't think I have much choice, Cora." She took a drink of her juice. "I run, they follow, then they're ahead waiting. I hide, they find me. They know who we are, and we're not safe. At first I agreed to fight because I wanted revenge for Andrew, but now..."
She put the glass down when her hands started shaking again.
"I just want to stay alive."

:::Cora nodded:::
I wanted revenge for my mother... but before long, the Brink taught me that what I was fighting for was backwards. My own people would have killed me if they ever found that out. And soon all I wanted was to stay alive... so I could come back here. And now, here is the only place they can't find me. That's why I'm here Luana... I haven't been to Omegatropolis in over a year.
