Despite her efforts, the bone wouldn't break away. It was so close now, though! Perhaps with just one more try...

Even though it would probably have been easier, Vieve refused to stomp on the bone to try to break it off. It didn't.. seem right to step over someone like Professor Red.

That didn't stop the salamander from fighting with Red's back plate, anyway, trying to wrestle a fragment off it.

And then the piece of bone, which she'd been that close to pulling off... shattered.

Grey ash covered her hands, and she could only stare at them. What.. was she doing? What would a piece of bone prove? She hadn't known the professor, so it wasn't for sentimental reasons. Perhaps she'd just wanted something to remind herself that she had to get stronger- stronger than even Red.

Someday she would be the fire that burned everyone else.

Opening up the now-tattered bag she was still carrying, she rummaged around and pulled out a small bottle, then gathered up some of the ash and put it in. That.. that would suffice, she supposed, as a reminder.

Thank Jack for Prince having packed her bag, Vieve thought, as she flopped over, leaning against the remains of the back plate, beside the strange boy who'd approached her.

It was okay, wasn't it, to just.. stay here a while more? She knew what she had to do, from now- knew that her life could be in danger, and that she needed to be stronger. To protect herself, and Evvy, if it came to that. But for just a few moments, she needed to be weak, first. She was too tired to be anything else.

When Shun stepped closer to her Mitsu leaned into his hold once more. She truly hoped he could he helped. There was a sinking feeling that the reaper would become very down about his current situation but Mitsu would do her best to take care of him.

Questioningly Mitsu turned to Hel as she called out to her again gesturing toward the doors. They would...take them home? Home....oh jack how wonderful that sounded. Mitsu wanted nothing more than to sit and rest. Tiredly her eyes stared back into Hel's mismatched ones, not sure why she was heading her with this task at first. At least not until she said she would stay for Riyo. Come to think of it Mitsu hadn't seen her around, she had been somewhat certain that the feline had vanished when they had. It made her worry now that she wasn't near. Should they really leave if she wasn't with them?

Still, Mitsu gave a small nod of confirmation, using the back of her free hand to wipe at her face. Before she would leave though Mitsu turned back toward the skull that was the remains of Red. So many students had placed their pins around the large beastly skull and Mitsu felt it only right to do the same. She couldn't take Red back to Halloween but she could leave a little bit of Halloween with Red. It was a manner of respect to the Professor even if Mitsu didn't know her well.

Clasping her fingers tightly Mitsu pooled a little bit of FEAR into her hand before gently placing her palm down on the skull. When she retracted her hand her pin was left in its place.

That done Mitsu reached for Shun's and Mot's hand looking up toward the two to see if they were ready. Well...Shun wouldn't know probably so it was really just seeing if Mot was ready to leave. There were still a lot of people here and reunions were going on all around. Mitsu could see Xiu and Lizzy among a few of the faces though they could always meet up again once they were within the safety of Halloween.

The Vetala's arms slacked when the Demoness turned, giving the offered hand a little squeeze. It was good to see a change in Lizzy, even if it was a little one; she was one of the strongest ghouls she knew, it was heartbreaking to see her so down. When her condition came in to focus, Amrita's head dropped and she shuffled shyly. "Um..B-but...Christof didn't kill me...!" She said as though it would make a difference. The determination that came back to the spideress was almost contagious, and the ghoul offered a thin smile and a nod. "Of course, I'll try to find them..." Well, Remi was still nearby - he received a very pointed look, as if to say get your fuzzy butt through the door before I make you, but it could have easily been just a stare.

"I will...be careful, Lizzy. I will see you when I return."

Then, Amrita turned towards Roch. "Err..If...if you don't mind, could you wait for me? J-just a little, I...I promise..." She wanted to go home, too. To put this all behind her, no matter how much it hurt. "I just..I just need to...do one more thing." The ghoul promised him, hoping he would stay just a little longer.

When it became apparent he was going to wait for her, Amrita moved the few steps closer to Lacie, reaching out to draw the girl in to a hug. "I'm sorry I'm bleeding on you~" She murmured slowly, though still hugging regardless. "B-but...I just had to say, thank you, Lacie...for being there for us when you could." The ghoul looked like she needed a hug more than anyone else, and Amrita, who was no stranger to needing as many hugs as could be supplied, was happy to give.

"Take your time here, but don't...linger too long, alright? I need to get patched up and I..I think you should come too, but...if you don't, I'll see you at school, okay?"

Mmm, care . . . He kinda needed that. Pretty much everyone needed some sort of care at this point. "Good . . . good. Can go now if you want. Mort will see around, yes? But has to do something first."

And without further ado, he went to Red's remains and began trying to chip off a memento, as he had seen others try.

He needed a reminder. He needed something to assure his continued determination to get better.

All he got was ash.

Hand throbbing a little, LW stared down at it and then at the spot she'd tried hitting. Curling her hand tighter and ignoring the throb, the she-wolf threw her fist at the back plate again.

Blinking, she stared at the spot she'd hit before aiming for the same spot again and punching it, oblivious to the small trickle of blood running down her fingers.

Mot stepped back as Mitsu did, his hands slipping into his pockets as he stared at the ground. He was rather done here. He didn't want to look at the skull, the burns, the blood. He wanted out. However, they couldn't go. They still needed Riyo. Sure, she was a misfit, but she was part of the team. She was not to be left behind.

Mot raised his head at Hel's suggestion. Was she suggesting he was a child who needed looking after? Frankly, it was a little frustrating, but the grim reaper was too lost and solemn to argue it.
He lowered his gaze, watching the spot where Mitsu had been as she disappeared momentarily.

As she returned and took his hand he gently grasped it back, his gaze flicking to Shun. Mitsu had seemed to mime earlier that he could not see or hear.. Mitsu had yet to speak.. What was wrong with them.. his friends. Mot's free hand moved to his face again, gliding along the welts the weird bottle had left. They still burned and stung. His arms and body were riddled with cuts and lacerations from the room of mirrors. His attire a little crisp and worn from the strange fire.

"Well... you try and find her quickly then." Mot murmured, his eyes cast downward. "I hope she's safe. Let her know we're worried."

Her hand was curled as tight as she could possibly make it, heart pounding in her ears. Come on. Please... She still didn't understand this want...this reason for her actions. Just...no. LW didn't even try to figure it out and let her fist fly again hitting that same spot on the back plate. She felt her something crack, and a small piece fell to the ground. Bending down, the she-wolf gingerly picked it up and stepped away from the remains, moving back to stand near her friend.

Fortunately, it seemed as if Xiu had realized her mistake, immediately switching back. "I'm so happy to see you're safe--so, so...happy." She choked a little on the last word and it looked like she was about to cry again. However, she managed to resist the urge, smiling up at the tatzel instead.

"I...I don't know about brave." She cast a glance down at her injured shoulder, shuddering when she thought that she felt the phantom pain of the dagger again, and then looked back up at Levi. "But I...I'm just glad that everyone is alright." Everyone except Red, of course, but the baku tried to shake this thought away, even as she held the small piece of Red's remnants in her hand.

She was still clinging to Levi when she pulled back slightly, offering Demi a half-apologetic, half-relieved smile when she realized that she had nearly bowled him over when she tackled the tatzel. Xiu wanted to go around and hug all of her friends right now--she wanted to see and feel for herself that they were solid, that they were real--but she found that was exhausted. Now that things were finally over, she was starting to feel very tired, both her head and her injuries throbbing.

"We can...go home soon...right?"

He was hot. And not sexy-hot this time -- the air saturated with heat, heat from Red's fire or from the FEAR which had left her body, it was hard to say, but he could feel it, and it burned like a fever, uncomfortable in a way he never was. His body had always been extremely warm to the touch, his kind having evolved from the need to generate the heat to shapeshift and change skins, the chill of halloweentown having never effected him before. But even the heat of summer in a forest had never hindered his kind, no more than a regular human. This heat was different, and it was this which had brought him back from his unconscious state, not quite in the realm of Couch but neither in the realm of Space.

Squeezing his eyes tightly shut, Nukpana's eyes flickered open as Shehk bent over to him, her hand deliciously cool against his forehead, for once he attracted to her body temperature rather than the other way around. Taking a minute to refocus his eyes, he slid them a little disorientedly towards the pricollici, narrowing them as if to squint, his eyebrows furrowed. "Shehk? You're ok... Jack, I thought... I didn't even know," he murmured back, his voice even more gravelly than usual. Again he coughed, making a face as the dust and ash collected in his throat and lungs, swallowing thickly as he struggled to get one of his arms under his body, trying to sit up. "What's going on, is the fight over?"

Bracing himself on one elbow, he swiveled his gaze to look over the area, refocusing on Shehk a moment later.

"Did we win?"

~~

At first, she didn't move as she felt Invictus' hand come to rest in the small of her back, still staring at the skull as if lost in thought, her only motion being to blink every so often. But after a few seconds, she shifted a little away from it, turning her head to look over at him, not commenting on the fact that he had sacrificed his jacket. Instead, she took a few seconds to try to read his emotions, an impossible mask, as complex as his oriental robe. It was impossible to say what conclusion she had come up with, but regardless she slipped closer to rest against his side, her arms folding to rest on one shoulder, chin on her arms.

"On the island, we fought for not only our lives, but our souls... and yet I never considered at all that we would be lost," she finally said, her eyes lifting to Aisa's, wide with Insanity, "Is it so far to think... that that could not have been us?"

Since it seemed the decision was made Mitsu nodded in agreement to Mot's statement giving Hel one last sad look before she headed toward the door and the Fu Dog. Home...she wanted nothing more than to be home where it was safe. This trip had been....something.

Mitsu paused here and there as she passed friends along the way but didn't really stop. She was determined to get Shun and Mot home and she squeezed their hands as they grew closer to their destination. The lycan was almost apprehensive. This adventure had taught her to be a little leery about doors and what they could lead to, but the prospect of home was too great. And so she stepped through.

Lacie looked up, in partial surprise, knowing Amrita was near but she hadn't thought that Amrita would approach her.

When warm arms enveloped her, Lacie was hesitant to return the hug. Not because of any reason pertaining to Amrita but because Lacie wasn't used to displays of affection, no one having ever done it for her. Still, the rush of emotion overwhelmed her. "Thank you." She finally found her voice to speak, her words wobbly, and returned the simple gesture, his grip tightening saying that she didn't mind the blood at all. How could she when Amrita was her friend? In the back of her head, she realized that Xiu and Amrita were wonderful friends. To have honestly met them and being with them on the field trip, Lacie didn't know how she would have survived without them. "I..I'm sorry that I couldn't do any more for all of you." She hadn't been able to do anything for them. Not them nor Red. It weighed heavily on her heart.

Catching sight of Remi, she managed to attempt a smile.

Xiu on the other side was hugging somebody gratefully, along with Vaith following her. If she wasn't so tired, and if this was different circumstances, she might have moved to say hi. But this was neither the time nor place.

Lacie had nothing left to do here. As much as she wanted to save Red's remains, she couldn't bring herself to attack their former teacher. "May I come with you?" She was exhausted. It was somewhat nervous, as she wondered if Amrita's companion would refuse. Her legs waved under her weight, the events finally settling in to Lacie's exhausted body to take its toll.

The black dog nodded. Knowing that LW thought they were alive, and the fact that she was here, left the black dog more determined to believe that the others were alive. He'd see them soon, he was sure of it.

"Yeah... I already have a piece to bring back home." He reached into his hoodie pocket, pulling the small piece of the petrified horn out to show her, before he closed his hands around it again. "Doesn't feel right leaving her here... In the human world. She should be back home... Where she belongs... Not here in the same world as the filth that did this to her."

He watched as the she-wolf carefully worked at a piece before she too lifted it free.

"What you gonna' do with it?" He asked curiously.

West shook his head and smirked at Mandy. He didn't need crap right now except to get the hell out of this place. He hefted the unconscious fire demon over his shoulder and glanced at the mysterious doors. They certainly hadn't been there five minutes ago, but at the rate that dead kids were pouring out, he was pretty sure he could get home that way as well.

He shrugged at no one in particular, then glanced at the ghouls before trudging off toward the door. Seven steps later, he heard someone familiar. The tatzel. Of course she was back. West shook his head again and smiled faintly, rolling his eyes as he watched her get fawned over. Typical. Pansies.
