"Your dad does," Kaito told her, not sure if she realized the fact. He himself hadn't heard Earendil using the human tongue yet, but he knew that it was part of royal education, and he was certain that Earendil would know it. So sure that he was willing to tell Miyuki that as a fact rather than as a guess. "If you don't want to bother your mom, you could ask him."

Though he was also aware that it seemed Miyuki was growing more and more independent, especially now that her parents were occupied with her new baby brother, who was still less than a week old. Or maybe it had something to do with her growth, he wasn't quite sure. But he liked it.

"But if you really want," he added with a smile, "I could teach you. River has said she wants to learn as well, perhaps I could teach the two of you together."

He nodded to where River was practicing with her wooden bokkan, making swing after swing repetitively.

Now Miyuki hadn't thought of that, probably because most of the time her ada was busy so her mommy had to teach her languages. Though when Kaito mentioned River her ears perked up. She learned from traveling with Amalirahc that it was much easier to learn when she had someone to learn with.

"I'd like to learn with River!" she announced to Kaito happily, and then added, "Please...."

Kaito laughed and ruffled Miyuki's hair. "Sure thing, kiddo," he grinned. "I had a feeling you might like that. Though maybe you should take after her in a few other things." He winked at her. "I know you should be practicing your weapon a bit more, too. I've never seen you practicing. You know you'll never get better unless you do."

He tapped his chin and looked up at the sky thoughtfully. "Besides, I thought your parents had gotten something for you when you improved enough ..."

He winked at her.

"How did you know that?" she asked.

It wasn't like she had told anyone, as far as she could remember. In fact she knew she had forgotten and if she had been older she would have wondered if she disliked the blade that much to have forgotten.

Kaito looked innocent. "Oh, your ada showed it to me," he said nonchalantly. "Said something about ... he wanted to have it on him for when you were ready, rather than taking the chance that you might not be ready when you left Amon Darthir."

He grinned at her cattily, his tail flicking back and forth. "Seems he was right."

Miyuki was half tempted to give him a look, this sort of thing went back and forth between her and Kaito often. He was great fun to play with but there were days she would rather just pout with Shiro. She didn't quite know why, it was hard to describe Kaito and she didn't understand it was a cat thing even though she hung around Senka all the time.

"I don't like it all that much," she admitted to him.

Kaito chuckled. He was always amused when Miyuki gave him that look.

"Well," he grinned, "I'm sure you know there are other weapons that you can be learning. Why don't you ask your dad if you can learn something else instead? You don't have to pick right away, of course, you only know a small handful of weapons - but if you wait maybe you'll find something you do want to learn. Do you think he might be willing to give it to you as a reward for learning another weapon instead of the dagger?"

Miyuki shrugged, while she did want the earring for once (and rare for someone her age) she was looking at the long term. Whether she liked it or not, she was stuck with weapons work, so she would rather learn something she could at least stand long enough to learn.

"As long as it's better than a dagger... and a sword, I've seen them I don't really like them neither."

When she had expressed much to Vincent her mother's old teacher in front of her grandfather, her grandfather cracked up for some odd reason.

Kaito chuckled. "Then why don't you ask your dad about it?" he asked her. "River's practicing right now anyways, so we won't be starting language lessons yet."

He looked around to see what Earendil was doing. It seemed that Earendil was taking care of his blade while talking with Lin, who was holding a fidgety Andarien.

"Okay!"

Since Kaito and River were busy and she might as well get it over with. She would like to say before her ada found time to help her practice or tell her to practice.

"I'll come back for languages later," she told him as she got up and made her way over to her parents.

Lin was trying to keep Andarien occupied by playing peek-a-boo with him. It was something she had seen her father do (though he would deny doing such a thing).

Kaito waved as she headed off, then sprawled out on his back to take in the sun.

Earendil chuckled at Lin and Andarien as he polished his sword. It was something he hadn't done in a long time, something he should have done much sooner, and something that had very much needed to be done.

Andarien squealed when Lin did the peekaboo, and he reached up with both hands and tried to grab hold of anything he could reach - her cheeks, lips, chin - or promise necklace, which seemed to be one of his favourite things to suck on.

Andarien was much different than Miyuki, Miyuki didn't cry so much as she gave you the lost puppy look when she wanted something. If she got fussy it was because she preferred to be moving about. Though both seemed to have a thing for sticking objects into their mouths.

Miyuki went over and sat with her mommy and little brother, careful of her ada's sword since he was cleaning it at the moment.

"Ada...."

Earendil chuckled again as Andarien stuck his tongue out and licked Lin's promise necklace, then turned to Miyuki, his eyes bright.

"Yes, Miyuki?" he asked warmly, setting his sword aside so that she wouldn't accidentally get hurt on it. He patted his lap, inviting her to come and sit with him.

Miyuki didn't need to be told twice. She loved to sit on her ada's lap, even though she was growing quite bit (but not yet she still had a bit to go). She sat upon her ada's lap happily.

"I was wondering..." she replied and looked thoughtful hoping he wouldn't mind, "Is there anything I could learn instead of a blade?"

Lin was telling Andarien that it couldn't be tasty when Miyuki asked that. It caused her to look up, but not in surprise, she was only surprised Miyuki hadn't asked sooner.

While Lin was distracted, Andarien managed to get two fingers through the cage of the promise necklace and yanked down on it hard to get it closer to his mouth.

Earendil smiled at Miyuki. "There are a great number of things you could learn," he told her. "Bow, staff, rope, fists ... I know you're not fond of the blade, though it is important to know at least something of it."

He stroked her hair gently. "You don't want to continue with the blade."
