"If awkwardness meant more friends, I should be friends with half the world by now." Though he supposed most of the social situations he got himself into were either with friends or centered around a corpse, so it wasn't like he had many occasions to get to know other people. He took a sip from his espresso, already needing the caffeine surge he hoped it would provide. And within a second he was already in to the first muffin, breaking pieces off of it and trying not to eat so fast as to seem like he was desperate or anything. "Rowan you say? How classical. Sharing the name with an ancient race of trees, relatives of roses, which has featured in heraldry for ages, or at least, I think that is what I've heard." He paused to try to recollect if that was right, before mentally kicking himself. "Sorry, that was my cue to introduce myself, wasn't it? I'm Emelius, probably named for a good-for-nothing who shows up in this one book for maybe a chapter or two. Real namesake to live up to...is something the matter? You are kind of giving me a look like I'm a Rubix cube you are about to solve." It was a little unnerving, partially because he wasn't really sure what sort of mystery he had presented, but moreover it was the same look he gave to his "patients" when he was trying to figure out what had killed them. Then she turned away, seemingly defeated. "Ok, now I'm curious, what was it you were trying to figure out about me? Do I still have the scent of chemicals? Do I seem dead tired? Either of those are because of work. If not that, then I kinda don't know what to say..." Now he was feeling much too self-conscious to snarf up the rest of his food, which was a shame cause he was really hungry and he knew he definitely did not need to be losing any weight any time in the foreseeable future. Great, am I so strange that I have a permanent aura of curio floating around me at all times? She knew that feeling all too well. As he spoke about her name, Rowan just smiled a little wider and laughed a bit, "It's good to meet you Emelius. My name was gifted to me from the people who raised me since I was a child. Though you may think that, even characters who only show up for a few chapters can carry some of the heaviest burdens and bear the greatest turning points for those who are there the whole time." Placing a gentle hand on her book, she sighed lightly at the thought of the old worn out pages and fading letters. She knew all too well how small characters played some important roles. She used to be a small part of moving a 'hero' forward. Groaning lightly, of course he had noticed how she had been staring. Who wouldn't notice it honestly? Tapping her fingers nervously on the side of her drink, she wondered how she'd explain this without sounding totally insane. Wait, chemicals? Dead tired? Turning her full attention back to him, she arched a brow in question. "Honestly I can't smell anything off of you, and you seem quite lively to me." Laughing a bit at that statement, she couldn't help but recall the whole drink spilling moment. He did not seem dead tired at all to her. Clearing her throat, she chewed her thumb nail a bit, thinking about how to word it. "I'm sorry for making you uncomfortable. It's just I came from a secluded village in Scotland, so I haven't had much first hand experience with others who aren't entirely Human, you know?" Shrugging her shoulders, she hoped she hadn't totally misjudged this and he's actually a pure human who will then proceed to panic and run away from her. It had happened before, and the last thing she wanted was to work the poor man up even more. If he was human, than there was something definitely unique about him, but it wouldn't make any sense, she could just feel the difference in his whole being. She didn't even need to touch him to know that. Though her mind reeled over these thoughts, her face still held it's apologetic look, because it truly was not her intention to unsettle him. "If I'm wrong, I'm really sorry, it's just been awhile since I've had any real interaction with another person." Raising her hands, palms facing him, she basically urged for him to forget everything. That was an interesting way to phrase it. Was he not gifted with his name? He supposed it didn't quite count as it had been given to him by the people who raised him since...well practically since birth, a long hospital stay wasn't really enough to count against that time. "Well, if you ever happen to read "Bedknobs and Broomsticks," I would love your input on why I was given that name. I probably should have asked back in the day, but alas the ones who named me are long since dead." The idea that this comment might bring down the mood never crossed his mind. He had been around death and grief so often, more often than sunlight even, that it seemed perfectly reasonable to mention dead loved ones. They had been dead long enough that his brain had developed effective coping methods with the topic. Judging by the looks she was giving him, his chemical and tired comment had not processed well and who knew what she was thinking about him by now. "I don't know what I implied, but I'm not an undead or anything like that. Dead tired cause I just got off a twenty four hour shift at work, and the chemicals cause I'm the county coroner, so I work with bodies and chemicals and all sorts of things. Kind of get the feeling you were thinking something...different."
Welp, that had been his turn demystifying the mysteries, now it seemed to be her turn to do the same. The pause in speech, that…was making him more nervous than the look she had been giving him. What was she trying to say that required so much forethought? Anything that required that much planning could not be good. He tried to appear slightly nonchalant, sipping his espresso as if she hadn’t just been staring at him like he had two heads, and then taking so long to form a tactful response it made him think that perhaps she wished him dead or something. When she finally told him that she was kinda sheltered and didn’t know what to do around other not-quite-human people, he nearly missed it, but when he finally got the gist of what she was saying, he nearly choked to death on his espresso. He didn’t catch the apology at the end, his mind was speeding through what could have possibly suggested that he was anything besides human. ”S-sorry. J-just…how? What’s so different?” He wasn’t about to say it just yet, but what he really wanted to know was it his father’s influence that made him different? Or was he cursed with seeming non-human because of his useless biological father? If it was the latter, he didn’t know how he would live with himself.☥≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎☯≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎☥ Stiffs: Rowan ❦ Mood Meter: Depressed █▇▇▇▇▇▇█▇▇▇▇▇▇█ Manic ❦ Out Of Corpses __ ☆═━┈ xxxx ┈━═☆ "Take the blade away from me / I am a freak, I am afraid that / All the blood escaping me won't end the pain / And I'll be haunting all the lives that cared for me / I died to be the white ghost / Of the man that I was meant to be"

She'd have to take him up on it. She wanted to see what kind of character had brought upon his name. His comment though about the long deceased loved ones made her flinch a bit. Making it seem so nonchalant? One had to be very numbed to the pain of loss to be able to do that. Or it could be possible that he hadn't cared much about the people who had passed. Biting her bottom lip, she hoped silently that it wasn't the latter. As he explained the nature of his comment on tiredness and smell, she nodded slowly, seeing where she had probably not made her own comments very clear in return. But she had just found something out about him! So he was the county coroner. Tilting her head to the side, she wondered if that was it, maybe it was the chemicals or just the feeling the dead gave off that was throwing her entirely about what this man was. Man was she going to be embarrassed, again, if she really had been wrong. Never had she expected a reaction like that from her comment. Or maybe she had. She really didn't know what she had been expecting. She was awful at this sort of thing and normally would touch people to find out her answers instead of being somewhat forward about it. Reaching out with her bared hand to try and reassure him, she flinched and stopped herself quickly, retracting her hand for multiple reasons. The first being, he seemed like someone who really wasn't comfortable with touch. ESPECIALLY from a stranger. Secondly, her trying to comfort him really wouldn't help the situation. And thirdly, she almost touched him with her bare hand! Every muscle in her body tensed and she nearly didn't hear him ask her what was so different. "Uhm...Please forget I said anything..! I really am sorry, I was probably wrong anyway. Not everyone around here is like me..I was just being, sensitive, I guess." She shook her head and quickly tucked her hands under her thighs. Sighing heavily, she just had to open her big mouth. "I-I can go now if you want...I would totally understand...I have a habit of ruining things.." She gave him a small smile as she started to put her bag strap over her shoulder, ready to flee if he gave the word. "Please stay. I'm sorry, I promise I'm not angry or anything. It's just, well, I've never had anyone casually state I'm not human." Was it really surprising that in the fifty plus years since his birth, no one had ever taken him for something other than human? "Growing up, people always said I reminded them of my mother, or sometimes her parents, but either way all of them were human. I was raised human and prefer to be considered one, but you are right, I'm not wholly one. But maybe that is what they saw because they were old family friends and they missed her? I don't really know." It had always been a comfort to hear people compare him to her, but maybe they compared so much at first to ease the pain of losing her, but then afterwards kept it up because they could tell he relished it? Ugh human psychology was so hard to understand!
"May I ask a favor of you? I know I am in no position to ask, but it is really important to me and I would be very very grateful." He knew what he was about to ask would be chalked up as a huge favor, but he absolutely needed it so that he could find peace, at least on that issue. "I know you want the matter closed, but please tell me how you figured it out. You see, I can think of two people who could have influenced me like that: one is someone I respect and love; the other...I despise. I don't share genetics with the first, but he has been a huge influence. The second, I unfortunately share some genetics with. It's going to haunt me if I can't figure out which of them it was." He gave an awkward little laugh, noting how damn strange he probably sounded, but also how pathetic. "If it is the one I like, well then I can go on my merry way perfectly content. And if it's the other one, well, I guess it is better to know about a flaw and try to fix it than to remain oblivious. Don't worry about hurting my feelings, I'm just really curious." Trying not to look completely anxious, he grabbed up his espresso for another sip, then switched back to the food cause man was he hungry.

Though she still seemed posed and ready to bolt if he told her to scram. Lowering her head, she sighed, yeah, she had a really bad habit of just blurting crap out and not being able to filter it first. Then she'd get into awkward situations, such as this. Listening quietly as he spoke freely about himself, she set her pale green eyes on him and chewed her bottom lip in thought. "Humans are peculiar creatures..." She muttered out first and she took a sip of her drink and wondered what it was that gave him away for not being wholly human. He was definitely part human, as he said, and that much was obvious. No extra limbs, or hair, or ears in a weird place. Just regular human features. Would he panic if she suddenly touch him? She could probably just get a read on feelings if she just touched his clothing even. Looking down at his hands and arms, she clenched her teeth and decided against it. She wouldn't do that to someone she just met. As he started to speak again, Rowan chewed the tip of the glove over her thumb, the fabric gritting between her teeth. It helped her stay in the present and focus on his words a little better. He wanted to know how? Great. So did she! Sighing and sitting back, she thought over his words. Don't worry about hurting his feelings? They both seemed like flightly little birds who scatter at even the lightest of gusts. Looking down at her bared hand, she clenched and relaxed her fingers a few times, wondering if it was the man he shared genes with that he hated, or if part of it was the inhuman part of himself as well. Figuring she had been quiet long enough, she leaned forward onto her elbows and placed her hands on either side of her face. "I can start at least with this. We are nearly the same. I am not wholly human either." Showing him her bare hand, she continued, "Physically, other than your eye color, you appear is as human as any other. But I'm unsure if it's a strange insight I have to others or the things around me, but it came off so quickly that you were not the same as others." Shaking her head, she was explaining it poorly. "It was nearly as if your aura just presented itself to me as something else. What exactly, it doesn't ever say, but it certainly made itself present." Maybe that's why it was so hard to pin down, it was simply his aura, his feelings. Taking a sip off her drink, she looked out at the people in the building, "Really though, your appearance if that is what you are worried the most is nothing concerning. We almost look like average humans." Though silver hair was a bit hard to hide. She couldn't dye it either, it always washed out or rubbed off on her bed by the next day. She had wasted a lot of money of trying to blend in a little better with real humans, but she she could escape her hair color almost as well as she could escape her own blood and abilities.. Still, he temporarily disregarded such thoughts as his mind needed to be fully focused on her explanation of how she identified him. He hadn't really thought about his eye color being too bizarre, there were people (albeit few) who naturally had lavender-colored eyes, but he supposed there was a strange look to them, almost as if his eyes were partially clouded over. That was just a side effect from how he was born, nothing to worry about at all. Based upon her report, his "aura" was off, or at least not the aura one would commonly find on a normal living person. She even went so far as to state she couldn't pinpoint what was off and that for the most part he looked perfectly normal. Heh, one of the few times he had ever heard that. "I suppose that could be from either," he responded with a slight smile. "However, it seems infinitely more likely to be a trait from my Dad, not the bio one. Wow, you can't imagine how relieved I am that I take after him." At the same time, was it really a good thing to take after Death? Well, it would be horrible if he was like some of the older depictions: an evil skeleton appearing randomly and scything people; but that isn't what his Dad is like at all! Death was a sweet guy who was only doing his job: he didn't pick when people went, their actions and sometimes random events, made that determination and he was just there to make sure the spirits separated from the body and went to the afterlife (others there could sort which afterlife that was). He was logical, dependable, kind, hard working, and merciful. Emelius possessed a few of those traits, but definitely not all of them and not to the same extent as Death. "Well, that may have been a rocky start, but it's turning into a rather pleasant chat now, don't you think?" Ok, it would make perfect sense if she wasn't entirely comfortable with this conversation just yet, but it would probably make her feel less jumpy if he was relaxed, right? Unfortunately he had already finished up what he got, but that didn't mean the convo had to end! "So...let me start over, and pretend I haven't been makeing a fool of myself this whole time." He took a calming breath before "confidently" launching into a more proper opening. "It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Rowan. My name's Emelius and I'm the county coroner. Sorry if I'm a bit disheveled, I worked a 24 hour shift which really wiped me out. So...what brings you to this coffee shop on such a hot day?" It may have sounded a bit like an incompetent actor reading from a trash script, but at least it sounded more normal.☥≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎☯≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎☥ Stiffs: Rowan ❦ Mood Meter: Depressed █▇▇▇▇▇▇█▇▇▇▇▇▇█ Manic ❦ Out Of Corpses __ ☆═━┈ xxxx ┈━═☆ "Take the blade away from me / I am a freak, I am afraid that / All the blood escaping me won't end the pain / And I'll be haunting all the lives that cared for me / I died to be the white ghost / Of the man that I was meant to be"

It had been a while since he had seen Alexis, the young djin he met at the bar, whom he happened to befriend much sooner than he usually does anyone. Hana was, well, a complete disaster of an attempt if that even was an attempt, but he couldn't lie that he found her mildly amusing to be around. Maybe, he should catch up with her too sometime, although the thought of her stepping on his foot to prove a point did make him visibly cringe and wave the thought away.
The man did take a liking to Alexis, mostly because despite him being so lively, he wasn't as obnoxious as Hana was, quite nice if he would add. The thought made him smile lightly as he sat there, at a table inside the rustic establishment, not too far from view lest the man had trouble finding him but he did think it was nice having him around- at least based on the few times they did meet.
Slipping off his jacket and setting it to the side, the man began surfing his phone while he waited, glancing occasionally at the door. It had only been about five minutes yet he felt weird even feeling so out of place waiting. Was he nervous? But why?

It's been a few week since he met Saeyong at Neon Lights. Not all too uncommon to randomly make friends in a club. Quit frankly, it's very common to make friends in a club. The djinn in his opinion would say the two hit it off as friends pretty easily. Well, in his opinion. I mean, Saeyong did let him accept his phone number. The two have been texting a bit back and forth. Met up again once but it was more so a hi, how are you and then bye moment. Saeyong wasn't the typical person that Alexis had a habit of gravitating to or people flocked too. Alexis was an outgoing person, had no problem striking up a conversation. Going around and happily befriending others. But in being that way, he's also very aware if someone can handle a certain amount of outgoing activity. So he would always go at there pace. But if their paces matched up? The time spent was truly a party! With that being realized; Saeyong was more reserved and held back. So Alexis would keep his outgoingness tamed and touchy greetings held back. Alexis was walking towards the Moonbucks cafe. Saeyong and him had been texting a lot since meeting. The two decided to meet up again and actually get to know each other more and hang out. The two decided on Moonbucks Cafe! Like why not a cafe? The weather was cloudy and windy. So a cafe was a perfect spot! Alexis was dressed in an all black track suit. Comfy white sneakers which was something he rarely wore. He was normally a high heel or boot variety type of person. During the spring and summer months for sure more Tom like shoes. The djinn also sported a neat top bun but was more so in the messy bun type. Truly a comfortable yet presentable look. Of course small touches of makeup which he normally did anyway. Makeup was always a staple. He just enjoyed looking nice and presentable. As he was going through the text messages with Saeyong he blinked as he looked up. He finally made it! Moonbucks cafe! The djinn held his phone in one hand and opened the door with the other hand, walking into the cafe. His ruby eyes scanned around the inside of the cafe for Saeyong. Once Saeyong was spotted, he happily trotted over to him. Once reaching him, his hand raised with a happy smile. "Morning, Saeyong!" The djinn smiled sweetly to the siren. Pulling out a chair and sitting across from him. His phone was place on the table, faced down so he wouldn't be rude by answering his phone while spending time with Saeyong. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Today I'm Wearing: Tracksuit and SneakersFeeling pretty: Excited yet Nervous Currently At: Moonbucks Cafe

The man was going through his own messages that he exchanged with the djinn. It had clearly been a long time since he had been feeling this pleasant and it wouldn't be wrong to say it was because of the company he was surrounding himself with. Although, opening up some more would sure require a little more prying, or just some more time- which the siren sure had quite a lot of.
The man glanced up when he got a message from the other saying he was here, passing him a light smile and a wave to show him where he was before he sat back and waited on him to come over.
Brushing his fingers through his hair idly, the man watched the other with a light smile before he nodded, "Morning to you too Alex." he stated, not sure if he was still comfortable with him calling him Alexis, although there were sure times he did call him by his full name. "You look really comfortable." he would state with a light smile, tilting his head lightly and on his fist, "Seeing you I am considering growing my hair out now." he added.
Once the two had enough time to settle in, the man would reach for the menu that was on their table, fiddling with it so he didn't seem too eager to just get the day over with before he passed it on to the other. "I didn't order anything yet because, well courtesy and I wouldn't want to force you to have something I ordered." he added before glancing back at the menu then to him, "Can I still make a guess though?" he'd ask, rhetorically it may seem since he was going to none the less. "For all that energy you need, I take it you have a sweet tooth?" he'd ask, trying to ease the air simply since he figured he must had been forcing the poor guy to do most of the talking and making him feel comfortable. For him at least, this was his attempt at being more social - even if it was an utter fail.
