It made a horrible amount of sense even though she wondered how Shiro came by all that information. It wasn't guess work it was all facts, of course Shiro was nothing but facts.

"So in other words there are hard feelings on both sides, which is why even today things are tense," Lin replied deadpanned.

Shiro nodded. "History is the most biased thing you will ever see or hear. Each side paints themselves in the better light, how else could they incur patriotism? Especially here, where the human lifespan is so brief, and they have to take every occasion they can to push their people to believe in them while they're still alive to enjoy it."

"In other words, even though things are bad here, the attitudes are going to get even worse as we get further into the Southland," Earendil said flatly.

"Bingo."

Earendil stared. He had never heard that word before, and he had no idea what it meant.

"Shiro, you're using Gaian again," Lin for once cracked a smile despite the fact she knew this had the potential to get ugly.

She was trying to remind herself why she wanted to do this again. Ah yes, to see the rest of the Four Lands.

"Bingo is a term to mean you got it," Lin explained to her husband.

Shiro just chuckled. "Well he's got to learn it eventually," he grinned. "It's just a matter of time."

By that time they were far enough away from the town that Emile told them it was safe to stop and make camp. It did not take them long, since they didn't need to worry about a fire quite yet, and very soon they were ready to rest.

Unlike when they first started the trip, Miyuki was no longer dead tired. Though she wasn't bouncing up and down at this point. Instead she spent time talking to Senka or talking to her baby brother (even if he didn't understand a word of her speaking).

Went to bother Kaito for a bit....

Kaito had ended up training River a bit, since it turned out he knew how to use a katana (and very well), but when Miyuki came over, he told River to practice and sat down for a bit of a rest to talk with her.

It was very early in the evening, and they would have plenty of time to chat or relax or whatever they wanted to do.

"Hey, Miyuki," Kaito grinned at her. "What's up?"

Miyuki thought about it, even though she hadn't been doing much at all.

"Not much actually," she replied petting Senka, she hadn't let go of the fluffy cat at all, "I could write, but I don't think there's much to write about yet... Mommy is busy, ada is kind of busy and Uncle Daeron keeps watching Emile."

Which she thought was strange.

"Not much to write about?" Kaito laughed. "I bet if you said that to Shiro, he would have a good laugh about that. There's always something to write about! But tell me, then, what do you think about the human town here?"

He smiled at her, wondering what her take was on all of this. After all it wasn't like humans were a new race to her, but this was a completely different situation from Gaia.

"It's sad looking," Miyuki admitted.

She had never seen places that run down before, sure she had seen some properly damage done in the city from over enthused Gaians but nothing that looked run down.

"And I don't like being stared at."

Kaito grimaced. "I'm with you there," he told her, "but on the other hand, I think we're going to have to get used to it. The humans ... well, I don't think they've seen anything other than humans, to be honest. They're even staring at the elves who have been here for thousands of years!"

He patted her on the head. "Don't worry too much about it, I'm sure we'll get used to it," he tried to assure her.

Miyuki frowned, "But on Amon Darthir people like us don't exist on the island and they didn't stare at us. No one when we went sailing stared at us."

Not even from where Luk was from! They just passed her and everyone else by and only looked because they were new people but only looked not stared.

"Maybe it's one of the differences between the humans and the elves here," Kaito suggested. "They have very different values, I'm sure you've seen at least that much already. The elves would never wait for the king to come and clean up their town, they would make sure it was in perfect condition no matter what! Maybe the elves just consider it rude to stare, and the humans don't, or don't care, or something. We already know they're a bit different than the humans of Gaia."

"Maybe...." Miyuki hadn't thought of it that way.

The humans there were very different, and it wasn't just they didn't have the same kind of things like the Gaian towns had.

"Hey Kaito, do you know Human Tongue?" she asked suddenly realizing something.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 07, 2011 3:32 pm

Kaito blinked, taken by surprise by the sudden question.

"Ye-es," he replied hesitantly. "Why do you ask?"

He had a feeling she was going to be asking to learn it or something, but he wasn't entirely sure.

It was rare Miyuki asked to learn anything, because normally she was always taught everything anyways. When her little brother was born, she learned she had to do lessons by herself sometimes, which she kind of didn't mind.

It probably helped that Lin tried (without ever really knowing how to) encourage Miyuki to learn things on her own while at Amon Darnthir. Which was why Miyuki played as much as she had normal lessons, if not more sometimes.

"Well........" she murmured, "When we go traveling somewhere Mommy would teach me the language of the place we're going but she's been busy, and I don't think she knows Human Tongue."

She thought her mommy knew all the languages but it turned out she didn't know much neither on the subject. It was never a language that Lin got around to learning.
