Kahlilia laughed lightheartedly at Roman's first response as she scratched Ben under the chin, since he had lost interest in the stream and probably forgot about the rabbits, so was now focusing on asking for the girl's attention. Kahlilia wondered how he acted around mares that sought his interest. Maybe it was similiar to how young boys acted - the fear of cooties and things like that. It was funny to think back to those times where touching a boy's hand could send them bolting. "You gave me cooties! How could you?!"

"Its a wonderful smell," Looking at the stream, smaller than a river but bigger than a creek, it reminded her of an oil painting that her mother kept in the den. "Oh yeah, you can." She added with a small smile, referring to the almost-taste of it. It was like when you went to the ocean, you could almost taste the salt water. Swallowing large amounts of it was actually bad as she knew, but she liked the smell of it anyway.

Noticing the sudden look in Roman's eyes, Kahlilia returned a deer-in-headlights look. Maybe she always looked like that?
She put a gentle hand on Benvolio's neck and hesitated.
How can I say it when I can barely decipher it myself?
The helpless, unknowing feeling started to grow back after she thought it had been permanently abolished yesterday. She was still mad at herself for crying that day, and that night she didn't stop thinking about it until her mind gave way to sleepiness.
Maybe I'm in a lower mind setting than I thought I was?
Whats wrong with me?

After looking down at her feet for a second, she lifted her head again to look at him, her green eyes light and almost acquiring a lost-puppy look - almost. Then, after closing her eyes and opening them again, she finally said, "I've just been thinking ... about what you said yesterday," Though her tone was very soft, she knew she was telling the truth, because it hadn't left her mind to give her peace. No matter how hard she tried, good and bad would battle amongst themselves for their pedestal but neither would ever win it. An ongoing battle between head and heart, a neverending battle between good and evil. Demons, angels, were they made up or were they real?
She sighed before adding, "Something bad is going to happen ... or thats what it feels like." Looking away, she thought about what she had just said. Esmeralda had gotten a freaking concussion, couldn't she be at least a little emphathetic towards Roman for that?
Nope, you had to be a little crybaby.
Something bad had already happened, and there was no stopping it!
Evil was winning.

((OOC: I actually don't remember at all what Roman said yesterday. >.>))

Phoenix had wandered a short ways away and was happily nibbling at some grass, apparently not at all deterred by the bit in his mouth. Roman considered taking it out briefly, and then decided against it. Easier to clean a bit, no matter how dirty the horse got it, then explain to Shannon how it was that a breeding stallion had somehow managed to get an unscheduled mare pregnant if Phoenix should decide to take off. The horse continued to graze, slowly coming nearer Roman's feet, occasionally flicking a glance up through his heavy forelock as though gauging his chances of sneaking a treat out of Roman's pocket.

Roman smiled a little when Kahlilia agreed with his assessment of the river. "I grew up near a river," he murmured. "Before we moved to the city. The bugs were always pretty bad, but the one thing I really remember about it is that smell, and the way the breeze would carry it into the bedroom so it was always the first thing you sensed on waking up."

He listened without any change of expression to Kahlilia's words, and at last he shook his head. "I said a lot of things yesterday," he said quietly. "What are you referring to, exactly? Whatever it was, if it makes you unhappy, Kahlilia, forget about it, okay?" He gritted his teeth slightly. There was something he wanted to say, some words that wanted to come out, but that he couldn't afford to speak. When at last he thought he was under control, he spoke. Quietly and certainly. "Nothing bad is going to happen, Lily." He rested a hand lightly on her shoulder. "We're going to train Phoenix and Ben, we're going to watch Ariel grow up a little, and we're going to have a fine summer. Nothing will go wrong." His voice echoed with a calm certainty.

Trust me. Please trust me, Kahlilia. I can't stand it when you look at me like that. You've got something so sad in your eyes. And it gets to me. Though he thought it, he refused to say it out loud. He hadn't even known her two full days.

( I just tried to post something but either something weird happened on my computer or it didn't go through x_x gaaaaahhh. I'm gonna try again ><

Eh, they talked about what they might want to do with their lives, because they were looking back and going 'Have I really ever done anything?' and stuff like that. Kahlilia got scared of having to face herself that day and is now mad at herself for it.
I hope she doesn't turn into a Mary-Sue type. xD I will not let her!

btw, I'm going to start experimenting with my posts and stuff like that pretty soon. )

Benvolio was sitting and resting peacefully underneath the shade of a tree, with an occasional nibble at the grass as though to test the taste. When he looked up from his tastings, he saw that Phoenix was trying to sneak a treat and he made a half snorting sound as though to say, Hey, if you get any, share?

Kahlilia doubtlessly looked intruiged when Roman told her that he used to live by a river. Having only moved twice in her life - the first being when she was an infant, and the second moving into the house she grew up in, raised by her parents. -
She smiled a little at him then, knowing that he probably treasured those memories. And as she looked up at him, she noticed their height difference. It wasn't too much in her personal opinion, being five or six inches - she blamed height differences on her petite build. -
But of course, it was also clear that both of the stallions, standing on either side of them now, both outmatched their heights. She didn't mind being the shortest one at all, nor being the only female at the current moment, as she had just realized. It was only when she went way into the back of her mind did she realize those sort of things, and thankfully they never bothered her enough to harm her.

Even though her thoughts were beckoning her to the negatives, Kahlilia listened intently and finally nodded with a sigh that sounded more like a squeak.
You're right ... The girl's voice was firm now, but it wavered at the end. Maybe I over reacted about something. She could think of so many reasons why she had - homesickness, the sudden change of scenery? But those things were good for you, not bad. Maybe it was because she hadn't gone very far in life either...
She closed her eyes for a moment as though to regain herself, and when she opened them again slowly she felt Roman's hand on her shoulder. Very gingerly, she put a small hand over his and a ghost of a smile appeared slowly on her face. There would be no tears this time, she thought, no anger and no self-pity. I have to be strong now ...
And she would be strong. Whatever it took, she would be strong.

((OOC: I'm not going to be on much for a while, due to the fact that whenever I log on to Gaia, there's a popup that's trying to trick me into downloading a virus onto my computer. Until that stops happening, I'll be on much more rarely.
Also, infinity, I love what you've done with your pictures! How did you do it?))

Phoenix turned his head and glanced at Benvolio. With a low snort, he seemed to be retorting, Get your own. Your rider's an easier mark than mine. Then he returned to gently nuzzling Roman's pockets in search of food. Roman smiled absently and stroked the stallion's nose - the horse could be as playful as a child when he wanted to be. "Sorry, boy, I have nothing for you," he told Phoenix.

He noted Kahlilia's intrigued look when he'd mentioned living by a river. His smile widened a bit. "It was a good place," he said simply. "I've always missed it. I don't think I was meant to be a city boy." He looked at the river they were sitting by now. The one he'd lived next to had been bigger, deeper, a dark mossy green as opposed to the clear blue of this one, but certain things remained the same. The smell was only the beginning. Glancing over at Kahlilia, he realized with a start that she was very small, compared not only to the horses but to him.

Roman's eyes grew a bit warmer when she said that he might be right. She looked like she didn't entirely believe it, but even if she partly did, that was a start. She no longer looked like she was going to cry, and that was better. When her hand covered his, however, a slow smile came to his face. What was this girl doing to him? "I don't think you overreacted," he said. "But nothing bad is going to happen. I won't let it. Okay?"

( Thats okay. My summer might get a little busy too, cause now that I'm off summer school all of us want to do something for the next month before regular school starts up again.

I can PM you if you want for the format like thing [: )

Even though it wasn't at all visible, Benvolio seemed to mentally shrug and continue nibbling at the grass lazily. He most likely knew not to mess with Phoenix, seeing as he was almost surely the alpha male of the other horses.

Kahlilia visibly brightened. At home, she had been the little nature freak, reluctant to spend time in the house even on a rainy day. She remembered just then how her parents would joke about that to her, Do we have to get restraints for you or something? I think we do! Time to call for reinforcements!
And being Kahlilia, she would usually run inside at that point.
Well, it never did bother her. She caught cold a few times as a consequence and was quite obviously chastisted by her parents for it, but nothing like that ever held her back.
I will be strong ...
That makes two of us then, the girl said quietly, eyes glittering with something even she wouldn't be able to ever comprehend.
Whats wrong with me?
Was the river right next to you? She asked suddenly, once again becoming a curious and even slightly ditsy girl that was younger than her actual eighteen years.

Somehow, full logic returned to the girl after what had probably been some sort of strange hibernation and she understood.
Understand what? Myself? Who am I hiding from?
Her smile brightened just as she did in the vivid sunlight, vanishing the temporary demons from her insides as though they had been nothing more than hallucinations.
She nodded then in agreement, knowing that she shouldn't have been so downtrodden and hard on herself. So why had she done it?
Some things are better left unknown ...
I ... No. She wouldn't let herself apologize, she couldn't find it in her heart. She looked at her feet for a moment, then back up at him with the same glittering in her emerald colored eyes. Thank you.

((OOC: Yush, I want! That would be fabulous!))

Phoenix pointedly nudged Roman, making the boy laugh and hold up his hands. "I got nothing, boy. Nothing." The stallion clearly did not believe this, as he continued investigating Roman's pockets. Although it had to make conversation a little uncomfortable, since he had to keep shifting away from the horse, Roman didn't seem to notice or care.

"Hmm? Yeah, I suppose it does," he said with a soft smile as he looked towards the water. "I figure city kids wouldn't get it. They wouldn't be here." Phoenix butted him lightly, making him shake his head with a smile. "And I guess I'll have to give Ez a thank-you when I see her. She suggested coming here with her."

When she asked about the river, Roman nodded. "Yeah," he murmured, remembering. "Ran right through our backyard. We had a couple of really good-sized willows back there, too. The branches draped right down to trail on the water. Like lace." He sighed. "I've never liked another house as much as I liked that one. Even if the bugs were killer in the summer." He was silent for a few minutes, lost in the memories of the last time he could remember that his family had been really and truly happy.

Shaking his head slightly, he looked down into her eyes. Apparently he had forgotten that his hand still rested on her shoulder. "It's no problem," he replied quietly. Her eyes were almost the same colour as the river he'd been thinking of - a dark goddess green that made him smile a bit despite himself. "I didn't like seeing you unhappy."

( Its not a problem. [:

Hmmm ...
Summer, Xavier, Chris, Shannon, and Nanina are all at the same spot sort of by the fields. Chris fell of his horse after bumping into a tree and everybodys pretty sure hes got a concussion.

Esmeralda is coming and going - shes riding around.

Keith and Emily are, as I last recall, in the barn talking. Emily was saying how Apollo could be very childish sometimes.

Roman and Kahlilia are by a stream, sort of where the pond and stuff are, training their horses and right now talking about rivers. )

Kahlilia tilted her head to the side at first in a confused way, noticing quickly how Roman was shifting variously. About a second away from asking him what in hell was he doing, she looked over his shoulder and saw that Phoenix was trying to get a treat.
She softened and started to laugh, amazed at this stallion's sudden behavior. It was nice, to see him trusting Roman. Had anyone else ever tried to befriend him? She wondered, still giggling a little bit.

I wouldn't have met you if it hadn't been for Esmeralda ...
Well, Esmeralda was a good friend as well, Kahlilia thought quickly. She was sweet and funny and extremely brilliant. It was then she remembered that she hadn't talked to Esmeralda much, excluding last night when the girl had warned her about hitting on her brother.
I will keep that promise, a voice inside her echoed. However, she too had seemed to forget that Roman had his hand on her shoulder.
That was nice of her, She replied with a small smile. Both Roman and Esmeralda were fun to spend time with, and she almost wished she had met them before, to talk about anything and everything.
Don't be selfish. Why was it she kept hearing her mother's voice echoing through her ears like no other? Had she stepped into some strange territory that her parents wouldn't have approved of?
Well, that was silly. She was eighteen now, she could handle herself.
... Right?

Wow, thats amazing. Kahlilia said softly, staying silent when he was. She knew what it was to look back and replay memories like old home videos. Sometimes, you looked back and laughed. Sometimes, you looked back and cried. And sometimes, you looked back and wished you could be there again, just to relive that one moment as before.
Having faded during the peaceful silence of thoughts, Kahlilia's warm smile returned. It was only then she remembered that they were in fact, touching hands lightly over the girl's shoulder. It was a gesture of comforting, and thats what they were doing, so she didn't move her hand.

Benvolio whinnied impatiently just at that moment, done with testing the grass in the area surronding. He was bored and he wanted to go riding, to run and be playful as he almost always was. Besides, he had seemed to notice that Phoenix had not acquired any treats. However, Kahlilia might have some if one or the two stallions could prod her.
Kahlilia started to laugh lightly at Benvolio's impatience, watching quietly as he stood and shook out his blonde-ish brown mane.

((Thank you Infinity smile ))

Emily spun around and smiled up at Keith. She was going to enjoy her time with him before she had to go back to montana. That was going to kill her. Standing on her toes she brush her lips against his for a few seconds then wiggled her way out of his hold on her. Apollo was then led out of the stables and saddled and tacked.
" you coming?" Emily asked as she mounted Apollo.

((OOC: Two jobs is coming up for me. DX Plus Senior year. I'm going to die before I see eighteen. surprised ))

When Kahlilia started to chuckle, Roman grinned apologetically. "He's like a puppy, it seems," he said. "Always begging for attention." He reached over with his free hand and rubbed Phoenix, right between the ears. The stallion nudged him and whickered before falling silent, occasionally shifting under Roman's hand so that the boy could scratch an itchy spot somewhere else on his head. "Just like a puppy," was Roman's verdict after a few seconds.

He smiled wryly when Kahlilia said that it had been nice of Esmeralda, however. "Well, really it was more nice of me," he joked. "When I say 'suggested', you understand, I mean 'argued and nagged and pleaded and insisted until at last I gave in.' And now she's going to give me that grin of hers and point out that see, I did have fun, just like she said I would." He sighed theatrically. "I hate it when she's right." After a minute, he smiled again. "I know I make it sound like we fight all the time, but we don't. I adore that kid. Sometimes I'm not quite sure why, but I do."

His eyes had softened as he thought back to the times of his past, but he shook his head a bit as Kahlilia told him that it sounded amazing. "It really was," he said. "I'd like to go back someday. But then," he shrugged a bit, "maybe I wouldn't. Things are never as good as you remember they were. I don't want to ruin good memories."

When Ben whinnied, Roman started slightly, and seemed to realize that he still had his hand on her shoulder. He dropped it as though he were touching a hot stove, and flushed slightly. "You...um...want to stay here, or do some more riding?" he asked, already turning back to Phoenix to reattach the horse's reins and put his saddle back on.

( No prob [:
Wolf :: Sorry, I forgot >< )

Kahlilia smiled simply and nodded in agreement. Both of their horses were, so it seemed.

At the first thought of Roman and Esmeralda arguing, Kahlilia was slightly taken aback, showing it by tilting her head to the side in response. However, she took back the correct position when he explained it to her. She remembered how they had lightly teased one another just before the food fight, and again just after she and Esmeralda pulled the trick on Xavier.

( When he goes back and sees his room hes going to blow up. It'll be funny. )

For a minute, she even felt the twinge of not having siblings. It didn't happen very often, but sometimes she wondered what it was like.

The girl nodded again, taking in her mind's image of what the river may have looked like. She loved nature more than most other things, even if that included the suitors years and years ago that her dad "had to chase away with a taser gun."
Then, Kahlilia had shrugged and laughed. As from her friend's descriptions, most of these boys had been immensely huge football players that actually intimidated her at the time greatly. She wasn't sure what she thought of them now, if she were to meet one or see one again, but somewhere deep inside her she knew that Roman was somehow different from the others.
Thats true. She replied softly, her gaze now on the stream. It was shallow-ish, with visible rocks lining the bottom like some landscape or something.

Kahlilia noticed his reaction when both of them remembered they were touching hands. The firm talk she had been given from Esmeralda - she couldn't find it in her heart to call it a lecture, Esmeralda was so sweet - flew back into her mind, but she blushed a little too and walked over to Benvolio. Starting to laugh when she found the reins about five feet away from the stallion in the grass, she dusted it off and inspected it before getting Ben to accept them again. He stopped for a drink of water, making Kahlilia laugh a little more in realizing his whinny had been impatient and yet he was taking his sweet time accepting the reins and now sipping the water.
When Ben looked ready, Kahlilia mounted and pet Benvolio's neck. She looked back up at Roman and Phoenix when she said,
Lets go back. We can try taking Ariel out for a walk with Kelly or something.

((OOC: Make him see it soon, please? I'm super-excited. XD))

Roman smiled faintly, knowing she had been surprised at the idea that he and Esmeralda argued. As in, ever. Smiling a bit at the girl, he asked, "Do you have any brothers or sisters?" If she did, she might know what it was like. But in his mind, he'd already pegged her as an only child. He wasn't even sure why - it just seemed that way.

He glanced over at her when she wasn't looking, watching her watch the stream. "I have pictures," he admitted, turning back to Phoenix in case she looked at him. "Of the house and the stream, and the willows. Just a few. I took them before we moved; I didn't want to forget what it was like there." He stroked Phoenix's shoulder with a sad smile as he thought back.
With a slight shake of his head, he asked, "Do you want to see them? I brought my photo album so that Ez and I could put in any pictures we take here."

At Kahlilia's suggestion, however, Roman sighed quietly in relief. She hadn't asked any questions. God, how childish can I be? he lectured himself mentally as he mounted. I was acting like I thought she gave me cooties! Slowly, he patted Phoenix again and turned him towards the barn. "Sounds good," he said. "You want to try with or without halter for Ariel?"
What's wrong with me? he wondered. Why am I this way?
