"Hi my names Erika!" One of the girls giggled and batted her eyelashes at him.

"And my names Samantha." The other one burst into a fit of giggles before turned back to him. Both of them seemed to have an expectant look on there face.

Ever the gentlemen Ampersand smiled slightly at them and tipped his hat slightly. "Nice to meet you two ladies, what can I do for you?"

On the ground Luffy looked up from where he was digging to the ladies and grinned at them before looking over at the drumstick from the night before. Using his tail he waved a friendly hello to her before he went back to digging. Maybe the drumstick would come over and help him dig? It had been strong the night before and he was sure they could dig up the whole beach together if they tried!

One of the girls, Samantha pointed over to Luffy. "Your Aipom is really cute, you even gave him a hat for the party to. Thats really cute!"

"Eh?" Ampersand was slightly confused for a moment, he didn't have any pokemon. Wait they were talking about Luffy, he still wasn't used to the fact that the little Aipom stayed awake near him. "Oh sorry he isn't mine. I am just watching him for someone so he doesn't get in any trouble."

"Oh your responsible, nice and cute! How perfect!" Erika cooed happily before bending forward giving Ampersand a nice view of her chest. " How about a battle? If you win I will be your girl friend."

Doing his best to keep his eyes away from her chest -he knew someone would kill him if he got caught staring and she found out- Ampersand pulled down his glasses somewhat and looked up at her face. "Sorry Ma'am I have to say I am not a pokemon trainer."

The two girls frowned somewhat and looked over at each other. "Not a trainer? But you have a pokemon with you."

"Yes I also said I was watching him for someone else." Ampersand explained again.

"No you have a pokeball on you." Samantha pointed out.

Sure enough it seemed like one of Robin's pokeballs had some how come with him. He had no idea which one it was, he didn't pay attention to Robin's battles other then to stay out of the way. Groaning slightly he picked the pokeball up and stared at it with a frown. "How did this get here?" He glanced up at the girls again. "Sorry this isn't mine either. I actually have no idea how this got here."

"Stop making up excuses! Battle us I wanna be your girl friend!" They whined together.

"Erk." 'Damn it why does this always happen when I end up at a party or beach?' He thought to himself. Well maybe he could try this battle thing Luffy stayed awake around him. Glancing down at the happy little monkey he reached down and picked him up again. "Luffy do you think you could do a favor for me?" He asked quietly eying the girls to make sure they didn't attack him or something.

Letting out a small squeak as he was picked up unexpectedly Luffy looked over at Ampersand before grinning. Sure he could do a favor for the cool hat man!

Feeling somewhat relieved but a bit nervous Ampersand glanced over at the girls and wondered if he could get out of this stupid situation. "Great. I don't have any pokemon and they seem to think that your my pokemon. Could you battle them for me? You don't even have to battle them, you can just stand near me and keep digging your hole if you want."

Riza tried her best to prepare herself for when she saw Sneasel, but it turned out that it wasn’t as bad as she initially thought it would be. Sneasel was still lying on the same cot, and she was sound asleep. Riza felt better at the sight of her seeing as Sneasel seemed to have a peaceful look on her face. ‘I hope she is having nice dreams,’ Riza thought as she approached her Pokemon. The bug catcher’s words were still in her mind as she pulled up a chair and sat down beside Sneasel. The feather on her head quivered slightly with each breath she took, and after a moment or so her eyes fluttered open and she looked up at Riza and grinned. “Snea-sell,” she said, giving a weak thumbs-up to show that she was doing okay.

“I’m glad you’re feeling better, Sneasel,” Riza said quietly, looking down at her hands. She didn’t know what else to say. Their first battle together had been nothing short of an utter disaster, and it wasn’t until Riza recalled the beedrill’s powerful twineedle attack that she realized she didn’t even know what kind of attacks Sneasel could do! Inwardly Riza was trying not to panic while trying to keep a reassuring smile on her face for Sneasel’s sake. Sneasel meanwhile, had closed her eyes and quickly fell asleep again. Riza decided for now it would be best to let her rest and she gently touched Sneasel’s forehead before going back out to the main lobby. She returned to her previous seat and pulled out her cell phone (it was shiny black with white features) and flipped it open, selecting the very first name that was listed. She pressed the enter button and the phone dialed, and she placed it to her ear as it began to ring.

The tattered mess that was Mike lurched down the stairs like some undead creature. The lack of sleep and stress from the night before really did a number on him. "Ugh, I feel awful." He said to no one, his eyes still half closed. He ran a few fingers through his hair, it was a mess.

"You sure sounded awful." Mike jumped a bit at the unexpected reply. His mom got up and gave him a good morning kiss and then sat back down at the kitchen table. She was tinkering with a circuit board of some kind while she had her morning three cups of coffee. "Breakfast is all ready." she motioned to a plate of french toast on the seat next to her and took another sip.

Mike let out a yawn, the word 'thanks' in there somewhere. He took a seat and began to enjoy his breakfast. Nothing better than french toast.

"So," Karen began, her eyes never leaving her little project. "What was that last night? Is my little pumpkin alright?" While her tone was less invasive than usual, Mike knew from experience that she was very concerned.

"It's nothing mom." replied the boy after taking another bite. "I just had a bad dream again." he paused. "Was it bad?"

"Let's just say you're lucky Titanium opted to sleep in his ball last night, or I have a feeling he would have torn the left side of the house off to get at whatever was bothering you." she let out a soft sigh and went back to her work. "But if you say you're fine that's alright with me. Just remember that I'm here if you need me."

"Sure thing mum." Mike said with a smile. A few minutes of casual conversation and french toast later, Mike was finished with his breakfast and in a much better mood. "Thanks for the food mom!" He said as he put the dishes in the sink. "I'm gonna go take a shower and then head off!" He ran up the stairs, his feet barely making any noise as he raced to the shower. Hey, all that ninja training might as well be good for something right?
PostPosted: Thu Oct 23, 2008 1:51 pm

For once, Mike took a reasonable shower. The mirror barely had the time to fog up before the boy burst from the shower, spraying water everywhere as he dried himself off. "I wonder who's gonna be there?" His mind's eye picturing Sasha in a bathing suit only served to excite him more about the party. "This is gonna be great!"

Karen could only hear every other word out of her son's mouth as she threw the dished through the automated water. She chuckled slightly at the frequency of the word 'party'.

A few minutes later, Mike tore down the stairs in his favorite flame decorated bathing suit, his messenger bag almost catching itself on the railing. He stopped for a moment to see if he wanted to swap any of his Pokemon out for the party, but decided against it. Besides, it's not like Slateport was devoid of PCs if he changed his mind. He ran over and gave his mom a big kiss on the cheek and was out the door. It was nice and warm outside, perfect for beach related fun. "Come on out Nitro," Mike said as he released his Charizard. "We got a party to go to!"

Nitro let out an affirmative roar and opened his wings. As soon as his trainer was on, the two departed for Slateport.

---

"Look out hunks, Sasha's here!" yelled the ever confident girl, her long pink hair dancing around in the wind. She looked around at the plaza, there were a ton of people! "It's gonna be tough finding anyone I know." he thought. "But it's gonna be fun just to walk around until then!" As she moseyed through the crowd Sasha would occasionally smile and wink at the boys who rubber-necked in her direction. It's tough being such a knock out. She grinned deviously as one boy ran straight into a pole because he was so distracted by her that he didn't look at where he was going.

After a good while of meandering Sasha came to a rather large gathering. "Hm, I wonder what the big deal is." He pressed her way through and found out that it was a battle. No surprise there. "A Lairon vs. a Snorlax, eh? This outta be good. I wonder who's dukin' it out?" Her eyes lit up as she recognized a familiar face in one of the contenders. "Kilik!" she cried out as she clasped her hands together. There might as well have been little hearts floating above her head. She shoved her way to the other side of the crowd, ignoring all the angry comments. After squeezing through, she called out her heroes' name once more, cheering him on from the sidelines.

It rang only twice before it was answered, and Riza was never more happy to hear her brother’s voice on the other end of the line. “Rizzy! How have you been? It’s been ages since we’ve spoken!” Jaden’s voice was rough-sounding, but it always held a bit of kindness to it.

“Heya JJ,” Riza replied, smiling as he used her old childhood nickname. “I’m kinda in a rough spot and I just needed to hear a friendly voice.” There was a pause on the other end of the line. Even though Riza and Jaden were more than two years apart in age, sometimes their bond was so close it could rival those of identical twins.

“I’m listening,” Jaden said solemnly.

Riza sighed, knowing full well that if she didn’t tell Jaden what was going on she’d be in a whole heap of trouble the next time she saw him. She took a deep breath and delved into her story, explaining everything from her first attempt to leave home, how she’d gotten hurt in the Ice Cave and how she met Sneasel. She finished up with her humiliating defeat at the hands of the bug catcher a few hours ago and how Sneasel had ended up in the ICU.

Jaden listened quietly the whole time, opting to speak only when she was finished her tale. “You know, it’s not easy just starting out. I know I had a hell of a time when I first left home. I don’t think I actually won a battle against another trainer for quite some time. Lemme think… uh, it was almost a month before I pulled off a victory.”

“A whole month?!” Riza exclaimed, falling back in her seat. “Oi…”

“But it was against the gym leader in Violet City,” he added. “So all the losses and training before that were worth it.” Riza didn’t respond to that, as all she could think about was how devastated she’d be if it took that long for her to win a match. “Rizzy? So you’re still in Mahogany, right?”

“Yeah,” Riza said quietly. “I’m still at the pokecenter, waiting for Sneasel to recuperate from her injuries.”

“Okay, stay there and I’ll see you soon, alright? Hang tight, Sis. I believe in you.” Jaden hung up the phone.

Riza only nodded, even though he couldn’t see her and she hung up, placing it back in her pocket. Her lower lip began to tremble and all at once she was sobbing uncontrollably.

Kilik blinked at the mention of his name and looked around. It didn't take long for him to notice the blazing pink hair of Sasha. He smiled and waved at her. "Hey there!" he laughed. He really didn't know what else to say so he merely gave her a thumbs up and returned his attention to the battle. Lairon was seething. His opponent didn't even flinch and that was a serious problem. He was so accustomed to just breaking everything in sight that the idea of a foe that would take time to destroy puzzled his feeble mind.

"Snorlax!" Larry snapped, "Let's go with your Body Slam!" The Pokemon jumped up to his feet very slowly and his body wiggled with excitement.
"Snooooooor..." he bellowed, falling forward to land on his smaller opponent.

"Lairon, get out of the way!" Kilik commanded, but the move had connected. Before Lairon knew it, he was trapped beneath the girth of his foe. The trainer felt the ground shake under his feet and heard a collective 'oooh!' from the bystanders. "You call that a Body Slam?" Kilik laughed. He closed his eyes and became silent for a moment. His body shivered and he felt the wind escape his lungs again as if he had forgotten to breathe. He winced as his eyes opened again - so that attack hurt Lairon a little bit more than he had anticipated. Kilik ran a thumb over his nose. "Okay, let's get that buffoon off of you!" he clenched his fist and punched the air. "Sandstorm!"

Larry raised an eyebrow. "What...?" he watched as his Snorlax began to pulse, as if something were about to burst through him. The large Pokemon rolled off of his opponent, and laid back down the way he was at the start of the battle. Sand began to billow out of the holes that dotted his metal plating and out of his mouth. Wind kicked up around him and sharp grains of sand began to swirl about the two combatants. Within the pillar of sand were only Lairon and the Snorlax he was bent on destroying.

Kilik couldn't see Larry passed the sand tower, so he crossed his arms. Now neither trainer knew how the other was reacting, though he imagined the fat man was freaking out right about now. "Sorry folks!" Kilik called out with a laugh, "If I ruin anything, I promise I'll help set it back up!" He glanced over at Sasha with a bright smirk.

Riza’s crying fit lasted for only a few minutes and she’d gone off to the bathroom and wash her face and hands. She splashed the cold water on her face, trying to calm herself down. This was no way for a future top Pokemon Coordinator to act! Besides, all newbies had to start somewhere, right? And she knew in her heart that it would not take her a month to win her first battle. She smiled at her reflection in the mirror. If anything, she would win her first battle within the next few days, if anything just to spite Jaden.

A surprising sight was waiting for Riza when she came back out into the main lobby of the pokecenter. No sooner had she passed by the front desk when the doors to the pokecenter opened wide, and a young man strode in, wearing well-worn blue jeans and a dark trench coat over a tight-fitting black shirt. He brushed his jet black bangs from his eyes and surveyed the room with his intense grey eyes, smiling when he spotted his sister standing nearby. “Hey Sis, don’t look so shocked. Told ya I’d see you soon.”

Riza let out a happy cry and dashed over to her brother before she threw her arms around him and hugged him tightly. “JJ! I didn’t expect you to get here so… soon! How’d you get here?” she asked somewhat breathlessly as he was hugging her quite tightly in return.

“I flew, how else?” Jaden replied, holding his sister out at arms’ length so he could study her. “Man, you’re not so shrimpy anymore, are you?” he laughed.

“Shut up,” Riza snapped, sticking her tongue out at him. It was true though. When she was younger, she had always been so short and scrawny. But now, she was only a few inches shorter than Jaden, and she didn't look like a scrappy little kid anymore. “And flew how?”

“With my Pidgeot, of course,” was the instant reply. “And you laughed at me for catching a Pidgey!”

“So he’s all grown up then,” Riza giggled, remembering that day well. Jaden had phoned home to tell everyone that he’d caught his first Pokemon, a Pidgey, and Riza had laughed at him for capturing something so common. She never would have thought he would have raised it all the way to its final stage, though.

Train had backed up while Officer Jenny peered inside the opening to the little hidden cave. Train had also recalled Ratata, and now her and Pikachu were waiting patiently off to the side.

Eventually, Officer Jenny moved away from the hole and called for back-up to come and arrest the people inside, after speaking loudly into her megaphone and forcing the small group that was in there to come out. Now that Train could see them just standing there, she saw the red capital R on their black shirts. Officer Jenny saw her staring at the letters and said,
"They're from Team Rocket. Sometimes the lower classed ones will do something like this. No big deal." Train nodded and glanced at the Rockets again, then just looked around kind of boredly.

"Were you headed to Cerulean?" Officer Jenny asked, seeing as how that was the closest place from that side of Mount Moon.

"Actually, I'm trying to get to Saffron. I heard that there was a party at Slateport, so I've been going there as fast as I can to see if I can make it." Train replied, glancing up at the sky. The moon was up high, which meant it was already pretty late... or pretty early.

"I can take you there, if you'd like." Officer Jenny offered, smiling. "You sort of helped us catch these guys, since we really didn't know exactly where their base was." Train knew that the officer most likely HAD known, or she wouldn't have shown up at that exact spot, but said nothing about and simply accepted the offer, and soon she was sitting behind Offcer Jenny on the motorcycle, Pikachu in her lap and the both of them holding on tightly for dear life as the bike started up.

As the two caught up, Riza couldn’t help but think about the last time she’d seen her brother. Sure, he’d come home a few times since he’d left to become a trainer, but it was never for very long. A few hours’ visit here, an overnight there. And it was never at the same house twice. Riza sighed. Such was the life of the children of divorced parents. It seemed that Jaden had indeed been out making a name for himself, as he’d managed to collect quite a few badges, including many from their very own home region of Johto. And while he didn’t actually show off any of his Pokemon, Riza got the impression that they were pretty tough cookies in order to have accomplished what they had so far. Riza also wasn’t certain what Pokemon had been her brother’s first. But, she didn’t ask, and he didn’t say. So for now it would remain a mystery. Well, he had Pidgeot, that was no secret, but Riza couldn’t help but wonder what others he had in those pokeballs at his side.

Jaden watched his sister with some amusement, smiling every time she looked in the direction of the room where her Sneasel was resting. It seemed he too could remember a time where he’d done the same thing, although he found that even with experience this part never really did get any easier. “These nurses sure know what their doing,” he said as though to reassure her. “Next to their trainers, a nurse is a Pokemon’s best friend.”

Riza just smiled at her brother’s kind words. She knew he was right and that this kind of thing was going to happen often, especially if she wanted to step up her training. She closed her eyes and leaned her head against his shoulder. It was funny, how even now, after Jaden had been away from home for so often Riza felt like he was the only one she could count on. Their parents had always been too-busy trying to one-up each other. Take the cell phone for instance - they’d gotten into a fight over who would buy it for her and pay for its usage. Riza sighed, hoping that Sneasel would be okay, and soon.

The remainder of the train ride passed without incident, and in a short time later it was rolling into the station at Slateport, jolting to a full stop. The few passengers that were in the car all got to their feet, Kirsa included, trailing out into the station behind the two boys. A glance at the clock in the station told her that it was mid-morning; she was pleased with the time she had made. All that there was left to do was....actually, she didn't know what there was to do. Wait for the party to start, obviously, but...

Well, she would never figure it out by just standing here in the air-conditioned station. Boots clicking against the tile floor, Kirsa made her way over to the glass doors and upon pushing one open she was greeted with a blast of warm, salty air. It wasn't surprising, really. This was a port, after all, and at this time of the year it was bound to be warm - not that it bothered her either way. Standing in front of the station Kirsa took a few minutes to gaze at her surroundings. From the looks of things, the city was already bustling - children and adults alike, trainers and enthusiasts. Everyone was either wearing a swimsuit or some other sort of beach attire, and it made Kirsa realize that she probably looked quite out of place in her uniform; er, maybe she would change later. Maybe. She had to admit, though, it was all a little daunting, but a little exciting at the same time.

Deciding that she may as well walk around and try to become familiar with the city, Kirsa began to walk, not really intent on going to any specific area. She weaved in and out of skittering, excited children and teens and busy adults, making note of where the Pokemon center was as she strolled past it. Up ahead were what appeared to be concession stands - not exactly something she was interested in looking at - and was about to turn and head towards the beach to watch a few battles when the crowd and commotion by the concession stands caught her attention. Was there a fight? Curious, she made her way over, edging her way in and to the front of the crowd, standing next to a girl with long pink hair.

It was clear that this was a Pokemon battle, and quite an intense one at that - she couldn't even see the Pokemon due to the sand tower! How impressive. Kirsa instead took the opportunity to take note of the trainers. The younger one that was calling to the crowd seemed at ease and quite confident; she deduced that it was his Pokemon that was creating the sand tower, then. She was definitely going to stick around to watch how this turned out.

Riza must have fallen asleep, because when she awoke, she was lying on the couch, alone. She’d been covered up by a blanket and as she sat up, rubbing her eyes, her brother was nowhere in sight. She stood up, and carefully folded the blanket and set it down on one of the cushions before going to have a look around. It took a few moments for her to notice that most of the lights were off in the pokecenter and as she glanced up at the clock, she saw that it was after midnight. She couldn’t believe it - she must have been really tired to just fall asleep like that. She then heard the sound of soft snoring, and when she looked for the source she saw that Jaden had fallen asleep on a separate couch near the one she’d been resting on.

Riza ventured over to the entrance to the ICU and she peered inside. She could see that Sneasel was still sound asleep on her bed, although the nurse had removed the sensors and things she’d been hooked up to. Riza took this as a very good sign, and feeling much better about the condition of her Pokemon, she ventured back over to her couch and lied down, this time kicking off her shoes before she snuggled down for a good night’s rest. She had a feeling that tomorrow would be a much better day. It had to be, now that Jaden was here.

Sasha could only cheer at the sight of Kilik's Lairon blasting the Snorlax off of it like a champagne cork, and gave a playful wink to her raven haired friend. After a few hearty whoops she was quite enjoying herself. Battling was in a class of its own, but sometimes there was a fight you just had to sit back and watch. For Sasha however, 'sitting back' was never her style. Even when she was watching battles on TV she would constantly scream and cheer at the battle programs, something her parents never quite got used to.

As the battle raged on, Sasha felt something brush past her hair. "Hm?" she looked down to her left, a rather short girl in a very conservative outfit stood stiffly beside her. Her eyes were fixed on the battle, like she was some sort of robot. Yet, there was a glimmer of excitement in her eyes. Sasha felt her eye twitch as she bent down slightly to get a closer look at the girl's face. "You are absolutely ADORABLE!" the girl practically screamed as she threw her arms around the little 'solider' and thrust her into a bug hug. "You're like a little action figure!" The poor girl was yanked face first into Sasha's chest, she never really had an issue with personal space.

What will happen next? She wondered. What sort of Pokemon were concealed withing the vortex of sand? Why were the two trainers battling here in the midst of things? Why was the area around her face suddenly being invaded by the presence of another? Why - ...Wait, what?

Kirsa took her eyes off the battle to glance to the person that was looking intently at her; oh, it was the pink-haired girl. For a mere moment, Kirsa wondered if she had done something, like perhaps accidentally trod on the girl's foot or some such. She had been quite careful going through the crowd, but sometimes accidents happen, and with how thick her boots were she didn't always feel it. Perhaps she should inquire as to watch the problem wa-

The next thing Kirsa knew she was being forced face-first into the other girl's bosom, while said girl screeched about things that were incomprehensible to Kirsa, mostly due to the fact that she was quite startled by all of this. Adorable? Action figure? How very odd this was, not to mention a little embarrassing and..awkward. That was the word. Very, very awkward. No sort of training she had ever done had prepared her for this sort of thing! Oh sure, she could probably jab the pink haired girl in the side hard enough to possibly rupture her kidney, but...that didn't seem like the correct choice, seeing as the girl wasn't being hostile. Just...overly friendly.

"...Er. Please remove your bosom from my face, miss." Kirsa's voice was a bit muffled.

It took a few more shakes and squeals of glee for Sasha to release her little plaything from her iron grip. "Sure thing cutie." She said with a smile, once again examining the violet haired solider. "I see you have Pokemon with you. You here to pick some fights with the party-goers?" She added a hinting inflection to the last sentence, her hand slowly making its way to one of her own Pokemon. A battle with all these people watching would be awesome! Unfortunately, as she continued her inspection she found only one Pokeball on the girl. Sigh, she must have been new. "Unless you got a Dragonite and a whole lot of confidence in that there ball, I'd say you're a new recruit to this Pokemon brigade, huh?" She placed a hand on her hip and cocked her head to the side in query.

Sneasel was the first to awaken, thanks to the fact that she slept very well all night and was feeling good as new. She hopped down off of the cot and had a look around. She didn’t really know where she was but she had a good idea. The last thing she really remembered was that beedrill coming at her with those horrible stingers, and she shivered at the memory. The Sneasel growled, clenching a fist. Someday, she would have her revenge on that terrible, black and yellow striped demon bee!

Quietly Sneasel made her way across the room as not to awaken the other Pokemon who were still recovering, and she gently pushed open the door and had a look around. Yup, it was the Mahogany Town pokecenter, all right. Sneasel nodded, feeling a bit relieved that she knew where she was. Now, all she had to do was locate Riza and all would be well with the world. Quiet as a rattata she tiptoed across the floor, careful not to make a sound. There were very few humans here, which Sneasel suspected was a good thing. It didn’t take her long to spot the familiar head of black hair and complimenting stark-white bow, and Sneasel had to refrain from hopping up and down with joy. She made her way over to Riza and stood right next to the sleeping girl, staring into her eyes even though they were closed.

Riza stirred a bit in her sleep, feeling as though something were staring at her, like they were trying to see right into her soul. Shivering a bit Riza opened her eyes and found herself nose to nose with a pair of very familiar ruby-red eyes. “Sneasel!” Riza exclaimed, sitting up and grabbing the Pokemon all in one fluid motion. “I’m so glad you’re okay! I’m sorry I’m not a very good trainer but I’ll get better, I promise!” she practically wailed, holding the Pokemon tightly.

Now Sneasel hadn’t been expecting such a reaction and just sat in her trainer’s lap limply. She shook her head and wriggled free of the human’s grasp. “Snee,” she said, giving another thumbs-up. If Riza could improve as a trainer than Sneasel could improve as a Pokemon! It seemed, however, that Riza’s outburst had awoken the other people in the pokecenter, and both Riza and Sneasel laughed a bit sheepishly when they saw everyone looking at them funny.
