The Ghost of Xmas Awesome

(Sleep tight as it were.)

Xenon chuckled at the "That's sissy stuff remark." Oh he definitely liked this kid. He was funny. Xenon shrugged "Well, I've never really been all that tough... but..." he raised an eyebrow "Can you really blame someone for giving up when it get's too tough? Is someone to be called weak or cowardly for it? I for one think that's one of the great injustices of our world... I think those who give up and those who choose to not give up should be respected equally... sometimes the fear of failure makes the one who refuses to give up the coward..." he chuckled again "But I'm rambling. I really must be heading along home. Good luck Raine-san... I hope we see one another around." he walked out, his smirk still spread across his face as pleasant as his voice was. Oh yes he certainly did hope so... he would enjoy testing out his new powers on him... not out of any malice mind you, but rather because now Raine had gained his interest, and therefore he was a far more amusing opponent... he started back home...

Kimiko returned the next morning, her body rested from the long training session yesterday. Her mother had spared her sword lessons this morning as she promised, letting her focus on her chakra for now. Kimiko had returned to her same old spot atop the tree, settling down in the very same position as the day before.

Crossing her legs monk style, she put her hands together, not wanting to waste any more time. She was close, she could feel it. All she had to do was train her chakra just a little more, she was certain. Her chakra rose, filling her veins and coils, the pressure rising as she focused intently... she was going to do this.

Kimiko's mind was sinking deep into the meditation today. Her consciousness was slipping away into an almost dream like state, her body still attempting training even as she fell into the semi asleep state. Yet as she trained her chakra, a strange dream swallowed her, unbidden, and unexpected... she was now in it's power.

Kimiko was falling, she was falling....but not all that fast by any means. She seemed to be falling in slow motion, and by means could she explain how she'd gotten here. She fell for a rather long time until, at last, she arrived at the base of her decent. Oddly enough she touched down gently, as though indeed, gravity had been taking it easy on her. She scratched the back of her head quizzically. "Hello? Is...anybody there?" Before her seemed to be some kind of tunnel, well lit and even carpeted.

Before she could call out again however, afigure landed beside her, and sped down the tunnel. "I'm late!! I'm late!! Cried the figure with a loud and overly dramatic emphasis.

"Dad!?" Kimiko exclaimed completely surprised. Surely enough, the strange speedy figure was her father...dressed in an enormous rabbit costume. Normally Kimiko wouldn't have thought mch of her father running about in a giant bunny suit... but under the circumstances it seemed slightly...familiar. Paying her no mind, her father, still in the white rabbit costume, fled down the tunnel. Giving chase at once Kimiko took off, running down the long tunnel, her feet sadly no match for her father's, losing ground with every step...

Kimiko continued down the tunnel. What the heck was going on here!? This was totally crazy! Where was she? What sort of place was this? As she past the many objects along the walls of the tunnel, she was surprised to see that many looked to be upside down pictures of even stranger still floating doors far to small for anyone to fit though. Whatever sort of place this was, she had a feeling she wasn't in Oto anymore. The twisting tunnel seemed to get smaller and smaller, the sound of her father's foot steps getting farther and farther away. She tried to pick up her speed, hoping to catch him up, but it didn't seem possible, for every time she increased her pace, the bunny suited man did so as well.

Finally she reached the very end of the tunnel, her eyes looking wide. Her father had gone, vanished, but there before her now was a rather remarkable door. Upon it's facade was the face of...herself?

Surely enough. Were the knob to the door should have been, only her face was, her mouth where the keyhole might have been. The face was smiling at her happily. She was certain if it could've waved, it would have. "Hi!" it welcomed in her voice.

Kimiko took a step forward, her fascination plain."Who... what are you?" she asked tentatively.

The door answered gladly. "Oh, me? I'm the guardian of the hidden heart. I'm locked up tight so no one can see inside."

Kimiko took yet another step forward. "But...what about the guy in the rabbit suit that just past here...did he get in?"

The door nodded "Oh yeah, you mean the white rabbit? He got in. Would you like to?"

Kimiko looked confused "What happened to no one getting in."

The guardian of the hidden heart laughed. "Silly, the hidden heart always wants to be seen." there was a click and the door opened. "Have a nice time."

Kimiko walked by the open door, her face uncertain. Despite the doors pleasant assurances, the space ahead looked dark... she took a step into the unknown...and fell again. This time though, she didn't fall slowly. She was falling as fast as the air could pull her, the scenery rushing past her as it blurred into a flurry of lights. She couldn't process what was going around her anymore... then...suddenly just when she was about to scream... she hit something soft. Something very very large, and soft. Spluttering feathers from her mouth, Kimiko looked about to find herself completely surrounded by them. And this wasn't an idle remark, on all sides a huge wall of them entrapping her. "What...what are all these doing here?" she wondered aloud. While she didn't expect anyone to answer her... someone did.

A rather mellow and smooth voice replied to her query... "Their here because you put them here." Kimiko looked around startled. "Over here." Following the voice she made her way to the top of one of the large piles of feathers, seeing that they were actually filling an enormous pool. Sitting by the side of the pool, was apparently the one who spoke to her... the odd thing was... well... it was a man dressed in a rather large and rather intricate caterpillar costume. He was smoking a cigarette, his white hair and jade eyes welcomed her, while somewhat dimly. "That was a rather impressive fall...lucky you had these placed here young lady."

The man was actually not all that old now she looked closer. He seemed around the same age as her parents, maybe a little younger. It was odd though, Kimiko was almost certain she'd seen someone like this before...but she could quite think where or even when, let alone put a name to it. "What do you mean I put them here?"

The man blew a large cloud of smoke out into the air, watching it as it floated up into the mysterious infinite blue sky above... where had she fallen from? "These feathers were made from every smile you've ever made when no one was looking." The caterpillar man said, his voice still calm and smooth. Now she thought about it, this man, he reminded her somewhat of Maboroshi when he wasn't showing his true colors, but he seemed more...wise. He seemed worn, but hardened, like the man had been down many a road, and had learned at some of life's deepest secrets. His jade eyes were even more like true jade then her own emerald, with more white mixed in. But his hair was almost the exact same color as Maboroshi...

"Where is this place? Who are you?" Kimiko asked brushing the feathers off her.

The caterpillar man blew yet another cloud of smoke, his face unchanging, and his voice soothing to listen too. "This place is called the hidden heart, and I am the caterpillar."

Kimiko didn't quite know what to say. "But...then...is this a dream?"

"Perhaps..." the caterpillar said musingly. A butterfly came and landed on the tip of his costumes tail "But does it really matter if it's you who dreams of the butter fly...or he dreams of you?" yet another cloud of smoke escaped his mouth. "Personally I think that even if somethings a dream, you should take it seriously." The butterfly took off, both their eyes following.

"I...see..." Kimiko acknowledged in an almost entranced tone. "So...then... how do I get back to where I came from?"

The caterpillar looked at her with a relaxed gaze, looking her up and down as thought it might help answer her question. "I don't know the way out of the hidden heart, the only one who might know is the queen of hearts."

Kimiko tilted her head. "The queen of hearts?" she inquired "Where can I find her?"

The caterpillar breathed out a long stream of smoke this time. "I know not that either... you should ask the prince of cats." he pointed with one of his hands, his jade eyes turning to the woods nearby. "You'll find him in there...and everywhere."

Kimiko looked the direction he'd indicated then bowed. "Um, thank you for your help." she turned and headed off. entering the dark forest...

The Caterpillar took out the cigarette, his icy jade colored eyes swiveled back to the sky. "Well meet again I'm sure."

Raine basked in his victory. Some people came up to talk to him, and he felt popular and on top of the world. Smiling broadly the small boy flung out a punch and smashed an imaginary face. Adrenaline rushed through his veins and he hadn't wound down from the fight yet. His blades cut through the air and his body flexed and pushed quickly and hit with power the air nearly snapped around his arm. He sent up a kick, which was not as amazing and soon bumbled down. Walking over to his bag once more to put away his Aian Nakkurru.

While hiding in the trees nearby Aoshiro managed to catch on two very talented ninjas, even if both of them appeared to be very low on the heraldic table they both possessed incredible talent. Soon after the second boy disappear he jumps off the tree branch and starts walking toward the remaining boy. Placing both hands insides his cloak he approaches slowly showing only his blindfold as his mask had already been removed beforehand. Not exactly knowing how to get things started the young man yells in an almost commanding tone:

"Hey !! You over there come over here !"

Waiting for a reply he moves his right hand out of the sleeve of his cloak and grabs a small bottle from his tool bag, on the front the bottle had the word heaven, on the back the word hell and under it the word infinity all written in old japanese kanjis. Bringing the bottle to his lips he starts to drink.

Raine whipped his head around, his hands still digging in his back. There was a strange person standing over out in the grounds, possibly calling to him? Raine looked around and there was no one there. Slowly he stood grabbing his backpack and walking toward the stranger, for some reason they were wearing a blindfold. The boy assumed he was blind and stood before him. "Umm, yeah?" he was drinking something though, Raine concidered the possibility that is was some sort of alcohol, maybe this wasn't such a good idea. He held the backpack in front of him, ready to reach in and grab his Aian Nakkurru.

Kimiko's eyes adjusted strangely quickly to the dark forest, the canopy above casting almost everything in a encompassing darkness. Despite this shade however, Kimiko found her way through easily enough... she felt almost as if, she'd walked this path before. The caterpillar had told her to seek out the "prince of cats" she wondered what exactly she was looking for. Another person wearing a costume? She peered about the shadowy trees for a while before she finally said aloud.

"Where is this cat guy anyway?"

In direct answer to her question, a mischievous voice came from above. "Searching seeking, ever peeking, when one has to do is ask, poor poor girl, here I am, let me end your task." Kimiko looked above, the voice surprising her. She'd know it anywhere.

"Mabo...roshi!?" she stuttered slightly "W-what are you doing here?"
