In Nocturnes na....

The word just sort of trailed off. Aria had no dragons, no real giants of this sort of proportion or form. Stone giants were not nearly as impressive. Spilders building their house sizes webs did not amaze like this. And that was saying something, Maximos had visited the Spilder web that traversed the space between Lalara and New Ariak, that was two continents!

Still, nothing so big moved so fast. The size of the pillars, the size of Ryugi. Maximos knew that should things be scaled to his size he could move the same, but that wasnt the point. Ryugi was fleebing huge!

But there wasnt time for that, Maximos had a race to win. And a serious gap to close, he'd need another burst, but he had no where to cap the pressure! If he just stopped in mid air Ryugi would be even father past him! If he tried to run on the canyon wall, the attempts at dodging rocks and outcrops and branches would slow him even more!

Maybe if he could....

This has to be exact...

The sword could be controlled without his hands, so keeping them in place wasnt hard. He only had to watch the "road" or lose concentration and lose the entire race.

He brought his knees up to his chest, and then brought the swords back, and down over the soles of his feet. Not entirely. Just enough to cut off most of the flow of black and limit the excess.

This was akin to tightening the nozzle on a hose, the stream becomes thinner and more powerful.

And it made Maximos look like he was skiing on air, with two jet black ski's! As a side effect, the pressure allowed the boots to begin whirring again.

Almost....almost...
PostPosted: Fri Feb 29, 2008 1:42 am

Ryugi's quick boost of speed would suddenly bleed off as he continued to fly ahead, moving up towards the summit of the worn path. He couldn't maintain a burst like that forever after all. Wind resistance and Ryugi's size didn't mix all that well...

Ryugi's speed dropped even more as he flapped his wings, pulling himself uphill against gravity's pull. Ground effect could only help so much as he continued to use his powerful wings to move his form ahead.

Soon he and max would crest the hill, looking down at the final stretch.

The section ahead was very straight as it lead down the canyon towards a large valley nestled by mountains on all sides. And at the end of the valley, the tallest peak of them all, was Mount Aleph, and at the foot of the mountain sat a small village, their finish line.

It was truly a give it all you had moment...

Make it count...

He leaned into his 'ski's', two pinkish white foot prints burning into his blades, the shadowy metal warping slightly under the constant pressure. The whirring filled the air moved close, and closer, and closer.

He could taste the finish line!

Really, because he tasted alot of sandy dry soil and was probably what they'd land on.

Did the town have food? All this flying was making him very hungry, but now wasnt the time for that. Before he could plan for dinner, he had to reach the town!

First!

He could see Ryugi's tail, it wasnt quite close enough to touch, but he would fix that.

- KRAKA-BOOM! -

Maximos blast forward like a missile shattering the swords into nothing as he burst forward. This wouldnt be easy. Ryugi was a massive creature, moving very fast. His mass alone meant that he would be able to keep his speed, while Maximos had to fight to keep his momentum having very little mass.

In the first few second she met Ryugi's tail, soaring over it, inching his way farther, and farther up.

His teeth gritted, his hair flew straight back and his knee's threatened to buckle.

He stood close to the dragon, withing 4ft, using the draft to his advantage.

Inch by inch he stole ground, as he tried to navigate the wind tunnel between Ryugi's wings. He could see the village in the distance, he could almost smell the scent of fireplace and food.

This was it, now or never.

Rrrrrrgh!

He gritted as he poured every bit of concentration he had into those boots, wind lashed at his face. And finally he breached gust of the wings. His arm reached out as quickly as he could, grabbing one of Ryugi's horns and pulling himself up as fast as he could. Not nearly enough force to budge the dragon's head a fraction of an inch. But enough to let him reach out, his fingertips inching over his friends snout as the final meter or two came into view.

Over, but was it past?

Did Ryugi have an ace up his sleeve for the final leg of the race?!
PostPosted: Mon Mar 03, 2008 1:26 am

Ryugi did indeed.

He'd saved up his energy for just this stretch of path. One could possibly call it a "hometown advantage". The thunderous explosion and the hands gripping his tail was enough of a shocker to realize that both he and Max were saving all they had for this final run. And Ryugi wasn't going to disappoint.

As the pair thundered towards the finish line, which was really over the top of the town, Ryugi's body would glow once again with energy before his wings would pull back behind him, as if readying for something spectacular. And they were.

With a massively powerful flap of his wings and a burst of heat energy, Ryugi suddenly shot forward, wind whipping by his body as he sped ahead at a rate easily over twice as fast as his previous pace. Ryugi's streamlined body would be able to handle the powerful currents and wind resistance better than Maximos who'd still be clinging onto his tail.

The heat energy swirled around and under Ryugi's body, creating a powerful lifting force, his wings drawn in and cupping the heated air, and heating the air around him into a high-speed vortex of wind to catapult him forward while reducing his drag significantly.

It would be a spectacular finish as Ryugi's bright golden form would sail over the rooftops of the snowy little village, and Maximos would have the thrill of a lifetime if he was still hanging on, riding atop a speeding dragon not more than 20-30 feet off of the ground. It would be exhilarating.

But it wouldn't end with the pass over the village. As Ryugi would speed over the finish line, regardless of the true winner, his wings would snap open, receiving a massive burst in his overall lifting surface as his body would arc up into the sky before pulling himself into a loop. As he reached the apex of the loop, his body would glow again, but differently this time.

It was a white light, almost liquid in how it flowed over Ryugi's golden form, the liquid light would seem to break the solid form of the dragon into a fluid mass as it shrunk, the form falling towards the ground. With a blinding flash, the human form of Ryugi would reappear, falling through the air with a grin on his face.

Moments before he would reach the ground, Ryugi would tuck his body into a somersault and roll across the ground before snapping back up and catching himself, his feet skidding several feet across the snow as he brushed a bit of the fluffy white substance off of his hair.

Maximos would likely be somewhere nearby, and Ryugi would turn to him with the biggest grin Maximos had ever seen on the young dragon-man's face.

WOOO HOOO!! I haven't done that in EONS!! I forgot just how much fun that is!

Maximos would have just managed to reach his horns, by literally climbing along. Just so that he could be at the front of the ride.

Win. Lose. It really didnt truly matter.

What mattered was the utter, unspeakable, unimaginably vast thrill of this ride. They whizzed by at speeds Maximos could never reach, giving him an experience like he would never have again. And he LOVED it.

He would follow Ryugi all the way up the peak of his arc before finally letting go, unaware what that bright light was going to do. The last thing he wanted to do was have the light fade with him hugging his friend spiky gray head.

So, he let go, holding both arms out to either side as he fell back, and send his body into a series of flips toward the ground, landing with the fluffy crunch of snow beneath his feet, in a slightly kneeled position. His boots had given some amount of help, though the details were fuzzy. Ryugi would land a second or two later, and after his exclamation Maximos really only had one thing to say.

His hands were somewhere around the vacinity of his mouth before he shouted, tossing them into the air.

That was...AWESOME! Can we do it again later?!
PostPosted: Mon Mar 03, 2008 2:22 am

Sure! But first, I have a couple favors I need to ask of people. One is in this village, the other is a little farther away.

Ryugi grinned and started walking into the village. He motioned for Maximos to follow as he wrapped his scarf more firmly around his neck. He might have been a golden dragon, and therefore had a high resistance to temperature changes, but he still didn't like being cold.

He seemed giddly with all sorts of excitement. But he quickly calmed as the cold bit at his cheeks and as Ryugi mentioned the business at hand. Hands...

His hands were freezing. He pressed both his hands together, swirling black around them, encasing them in an ebony ball before separating the revealing a few "edits" to his gloves. He had created mitten gloves! Mittens, until you pull the mitten back onto the velcro and reveal the fingers beneath. Very effective for grabbing things and still staying warm.

But Maximos was an island boy, and after that, a desert dweller. He loved the sight, and feel of snow, but it was already chilling him. He flipped his hood over his head to protect his extremities and followed closely behind his dragon tour guide a bright smile on the visible bottom half of his face. Complete with rose nose and cheeks.

Ryugi would walk around the town with Maximos in tow. There would be people going about their business in the town, lots of whites, blues, grays and the like in the colors that they wore on their clothes.

This was the small town of Proxema at the foot of Mount Aleph. At the top of the mountain sat Altin Shrine, the holiest place on the face of Angara, and tomorrow's destination. But for now, the pair of travelers would wander through the streets of the small village until they came to a small house on the outskirts of the place.

Ryugi would knock on the door and a voice would come from the inside.

Just a moment, I'm coming.

Footsteps would sound before the sounds of a latch being undone, and a door being opened. A figure would greet them, his deep blue eyes warming as he saw Ryugi.

Kazamaru! I haven't seen you since the Ramiel incident! How have you been my good friend? And who might this shadowy new friend of yours be? He certainly isn't Ryudo.

Ryugi would chuckle a bit and extend his hand out to shake the hand of his friend.

Cruxis, you can call me Ryugi you know. And this shadowy looking fellow is my dear friend Maximos. He's another of my friends from the Lands of Man.

Cruxis Saint would smile and extend a hearty handshake towards Maximos as well. He was slightly taller than Ryugi at about six feet two inches, and wore white and blue clothing, save for his boots, which were a dark navy blue and black. He looked to be older than Ryugi too, roughly 27. And his voice was a strong and proud one, much like a honorable knight, unlike Ryugi who was more like a heroic paladin of justice.

Cruxis Saint at your service, Sir. It is a pleasure to meet yet another of Kazamaru's dearest friends. Any friend of Kazamaru is a friend of mine.

But my manners have left me....

Please, come inside, you must both be chilled to the bone. Make yourselves at home, warm yourselves by the fire, and I shall put some tea on.

Cruxis would open the door and offer the way inside to Ryugi and Maximos. It would seem that Ryugi had yet another friend that would be able to help the two of them out, and offer a place to stay for the night.

It was, without a doubt, beautiful. Being raised surrounded by sand, be it beach or desert, Maximos loved the contrast of snow. The way it blanketed everything in a silent purity, and announced your presence with triumphant crunches.

Maximos found himself stung, as the cold tried to bite0 at his fingertips and nose, and cheeks. He hadnt experienced real cold in at least two years. Yet the sight of this village in this white wonderland was truly heart warming. It carried the same simple magnificence as Presea, but warmed over with a veil of white.

Easily his favorite town on this journey.

He would follow his friend past travelers and the sweet smell of fireplaces burning fresh logs, or whatever they burned, and to the door. Maximos was caught up with curiousness but decided to let the events unfold.

Immediately, he was taken a back. Behind his dark goggles, out of view, his eyes opened wide. It wasnt that the man was scary, or cruel looking, but he was just so....bright. Brilliant white, ice blue, a stark contrast to the black, on black, on black of Maximos' garb. And he seemed so proper, not just gentlemanly like Maximos. But Cruxis seemed to be the type that would prosecute for j-walking. It made him a bit nervous.

Rammiel? Perhaps a tale for later...

Of course he would never let any of this show, to do so would be unforgivably rude. He returned the handshake with a good squeeze a firm shake. And of course, a bright warm smile, his goggles and hood on, only because they were still in the cold.

The pleasure is mine, Mr. Saint. Your too kind, thank you!

Maximos would of course wait for Ryugi to enter before following closely.

You've quite the lovely home!
PostPosted: Mon Mar 03, 2008 6:15 pm

Thank you Mr. Maximos. This home has been in my family for generations.

Ryugi would take a seat by the fire as Cruxis moved to put the tea on. As he did so, he spoke once more.

So, Ryugi, Maximos, what brings you two to Proxema? Are you planning to visit Altin Shrine again?

Ryugi would nod and speak.

Actually, yes. Maximos is interested in Angaran elemental abilities, and so I figured it would be a great place to take him so that he might see how its done.

Also... I have a favor to ask of you...

Cruxis would grin and speak again.

Anything you want, consider it done my friend.

Good! I'll tell you about it later. But for now, let's have some tea.

Maximos, just behind Ryugi took a seat opposite him, also by the fire, watching there host.

Something about this Cruxis rubbed Maximos in an odd way. At first it was nervousness, then a bit of uncomfortability. But as he nodded sharply in agreement with Ryugi's answer, he started to note something else.

Here was a perfect gentleman, living in a house passed down over generations. He was clearly very proper, very classy. He greeted two guests with tea....He couldnt help but feel a sense of familiarity with it all. And for some reason found himself looking for Walter, almost expecting his sort of presence.

Then Ryugi mentioned that favor, and left it hanging so...ominously. He couldnt help but c**k and eyebrow and look from Ryu, to Cruxis and back again with a smirk. It was the sort of look that silently said, "What're you planning....?".

He'd tag an...

Indeed!

As Cruxis once again mentioned tea, and then slip in the question currently on his mind.

If I may ask, who is this Rammiel?
PostPosted: Tue Mar 04, 2008 2:36 am

Maximos
Indeed!

As Cruxis once again mentioned tea, and then slip in the question currently on his mind.

If I may ask, who is this Rammiel?
Cruxis, why don't you explain? I have another quick errand I need to run. I'll return shortly.

Ryugi would smile and stand up, leaving Maximos and Cruxis to speak for a bit. Cruxis would take a seat near the fire as well, and offer some tea to Maximos first, then one for Ryugi for when he returned, and lastly for himself. He'd take a sip before looking to Maximos and sighing a bit before beginning his tale.

Ramiel, was one of the most terrible things to happen to these lands since the Great War. It happened nearly two human years ago now that I recall it. Ramiel was a terrible mistake of man's dark ambitions. He lived a pitiable existence to a degree, but the sins he committed were beyond the scope of forgiveness, even for Ryugi's kind and caring heart.

Cruxis would set his teacup down on the saucer and place it on his lap as his deep blue eyes looked into Maximos'. The white eye of Maximos would be able to read the emotions coming from the man as clear as day. He was clearly saddened by recounting the tale, but also slightly disturbed by the actions he was about to explain. However, Maximos would see that he seemed to believe that justice had been served as well. Why? He would have to continue listening to find out.

Ramiel was a creation of man's inherent destructive will, and Kazamaru's DNA. He was born from a scientific laboratory for one soul purpose, to seek and retrieve one of Ryugi's friends named Madison. However, before that mission could come to fruition, he accidentally met up with Ryugi and the two fought in a destructive battle. That battle set into motion a terrible series of events that ultimately culminated in a warped and deluded beast.

Cruxis took another sip of his tea, staring into the cup before continuing.

The being's genetic makeup had deteriorated to the point that he ceased to be whatever his makers had intended him to be, and became a monster. A monster that killed under Kazamaru's name to have him brought back to Angara and tried for his terrible crimes so that he would be able to ultimately kill him, and destroy everything he held dear. But when his first attempt failed, his rage and anger pushed him to new and terrible actions.

The Altin Shrine was viciously attacked, and the spiritual souls of many monks were forcibly combined to create a collection of energies this land had never seen before. Ramiel then took these souls, and thereby their energies, into himself, and became vastly more powerful than any one dragon alone. However, Ryugi found a way to damage the powerful magical being with a sword called Sol Blade that wielded anti-magical energy, and canceled out the terrible powers that Ramiel had gained, before sacrificing his body to the elemental planes of fire and light in order to unleash a massive final assault on the beast that Ramiel had become.

Cruxis would then look up to Maximos once again, as if peering into him, and speaking honestly as much as he could.

Now, I do not know the extent that you know Ryugi, Mr. Maximos, but I believe that you and I both would never judge him as capable of killing another being without good reason. I hope you do not judge him harshly for his actions in this matter. He gave Ramiel every chance he could to try and get him to change his ways. Ryugi is a kind soul, and a noble heart. He believes that no one is incapable of change, or goodness as long as they can think and behave rationally. Only when Ramiel ceased to be capable of that rational thought, and lost his mind to the power of his own devices did Ryugi aim to use his powers to end that existence.

I believe that Ramiel suffered greatly in his life Mr. Maximos. His suffering drove him to these terrible things, so I cannot truly call him evil, but his actions caused him to become evil and savage. In a way, I believe that Kazamaru liberated Ramiel from the suffering that plagued his life. Ryugi served justice onto a creature that was intent on killing millions to satisfy his own destructive urges, and also liberated a tortured soul from its suffering. In that light, I agree with Ryugi's actions in the taking of Ramiel's life.

Cruxis would take one more sip of his tea, and lean back in the chair he sat in, as if thinking about something far less serious now, and he was.

For those actions, Kazamaru was granted a sort of heroic status here not unlike the status of Eclipse, another of our heroes. Of course, when he sacrificed his body to the planes, we never expected to see him alive once more, as that phenomenon was always assumed to lead to one's death. However, it would seem that the Fates smiled on us, and brought him back to his home once more. And I'm honored to see him once more...

Meanwhile, Ryugi was busy elsewhere. He'd walked a few feet away from Cruxis' house, and was stooped down over the ground. There, he drew a shape in the snow, or rather, several lines, runes, and shapes to form a larger rune. It was one thing his mage friend Kara had taught him before she had passed away. As a mage, she knew many forms of magic, healing being her primary talent, but she knew many types of spells. And runic magic was one of her favorites.

Ryugi would then place his hand over the shape, a soft glow of energy running around his hand as the rune energized. Ryugi's red eyes would close and his hair would rustle slightly as a soft breeze picked up in his immediate area. With a single deep breath, Ryugi would then begin to speak.

Earthly winds, ancient elements, listen and hear my call.
Carry my voice far and wide on the wings of thy grace.
Silent Message.

The rune would then pulse softly and glow as Ryugi would silently have a conversation with someone simply by speaking in his thoughts. He need not speak out loud other than the incantation to begin the runic spell, and a small jolt of energy to begin the process. What was he doing? Who was he talking to? Time would tell...

A few minutes later, Ryugi would return to the house and enter, moving to take a seat.

Sorry about that. Had some business to attend to.

Ryugi would chuckle and take a drink of his tea, which luckily hadn't grown too cold.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 04, 2008 10:15 pm

"Cruxis, why don't you explain? I have another quick errand I need to run. I'll return shortly."

Maximos's eyes widened for a bit as he heard Ryugi, and surprise rolled over him. Errand? He didnt remember Ryugi mentioning any errand before they arrived, but now there were errands to run, and special favors to ask, and the Shadow found himself utterly confused and yet completely curious.

Of course! See you soon.

He said with a smile and a wave as Ryugi departed leaving only himself and Cruxis. That was a bit of a unnerving prospect, but Maximos settled into it, he graciously accepted the tea.

Thank you so very much, I find tea is the perfect remedy to any sort of intense weather.

And with, he would smile brightly, and listen. Silently warming his hands with the hot mug, and his breath with the hot steam.

"Ramiel was a terrible mistake of man's dark ambitions."

Maximos persed his lips and slowly shook his head. He knew first hand the sort of darkness and malevolence wrought by man's dark ambition. Despite being a man, he had seen the price of hubris first hand and knew full well the monstrosities brought about when mortal plays divine. He could see the sadness present in Cruxis, the shaken nature, but also that underlying sense of justice. Of course he expected no less. He had only know Cruxis for minutes be he simply could not fathom this man existing having committed or abetted an unjust act or individual.

Still, it was rude to interrupt a tale so early, and Maximos stood silent, save for a sad straight look and a small shake of his head. He understood nothing of genetics or such, but the underlying basis and emotion he grasped.

This Ramiel truly seems worthy of pity. Created for darkness, and left to rot in it...how tragic...

He added solemnly, letting the tale continue spiraling to tragedy. Occasionally he shook his head, but as Cruxis mentioned the souls collective Maximos seemed entirely taken aback, shocked even. His eyes widened in almost disbelief.

I...honestly had no idea that was even possible for your kind. Ryugi was quite brave to go up against something so dangerous.

While inside he thought...

...Thats Reaper work...I owe him our thanks...

Maximos would meet Cruxis' peering gaze as the surprise faded and the weight of what was being told rested back on him. There was more to tell, and he took another sip and listened.

He listened with kind, understanding eyes as the knight before him plead Ryugi's proverbial case. Strange, almost funny, that Maximos' thoughts were not at all toward judgement, but instead toward praise, whic he would add as Mr. Saint paused for another sip.

Actually, Mr. Saint, I feel quite the contrary. I'm proud, if not honored to be in the company of such people as yourselves. The amount of weight and value yourself and Ryugi place on a single life is refreshing. I....

He paused for a moment, his eyes drifting away from Mr. Saint toward a far corner of the room as he wondered for just a moment if he should say what he was about to, and decided for it. False pretenses would get him no where, honesty was everything. He was, who he was.

...in my employment, must take the lives of many. Most not nearly as monstrous as this Ramiel, so to see such concern and care, and just reasoning needed for the taking of one dark life is well...heart warming. Its a comfort to see people like yourself and Mr. Kazamaru still exist.

He would return to his tea, his hands now nice and refreshed, his body a bit more prepared to face the cold. His mind more prepared for Cruxis to continue.

"For those actions, Kazamaru was granted a sort of heroic status here not unlike the status of Eclipse, another of our heroes."

Ah yes! We visited his museum in Presea at the start of this trip!

He poked out of his cup to chip in, before vanishing into another sip.

"And I'm honored to see him once more..."

As I am to travel with him.

He smiled warmly, looking into the fire before looking back at Mr. Saint and cocking his head slightly to the side, a quirky smile on his lips and a moment of odd silence before he simply had to ask.

This may sound a bit rude, and I apologize in advance if it is I'm a bit new to Draconic etiquette. But Ryugi and I were practicing this on the road the other day, and I simply have to ask...what sort of dragon are you Mr. Saint?

Oh, its no problem. I'm actually a white dragon. My powers are ice and wind based.

Cruxis took a sip on his tea before responding further.

Your job sounds very important in the world Mr. Maximos. I can't quite fathom what it is, but I can tell that you do not work in a dark and evil profession. Your heart is dark, but not corrupted and evil. I sensed that about you after I met you.

You're a good man Mr. Maximos...

Cruxis would smile as he took another sip of his tea. About this time, Ryugi would return and take his seat near the fire as well, having missed Maximos' conversation with Cruxis all together.
