i am one of only 3 french hornests at my middle school. one of the 3 is in seventh grade and was originally a trumpet. i just started at the begining of this school year.
french horn is the forgotten instrument at my school. when ever my band director just says saxes play the 2 eighth grade horn players give her dirty looks until she notices. it sucks.
we played melaphone during marching season and personally i enjoyed it, though it dosnt even compare to the horn in both sound and style. HORN ROCKS!!!
also our band just went to district competitions and we made superior for the second year in a row!!!! biggrin

French Horns are very important and we even have a song where only french horns play! But after that we go unnoticed and ignored v.v But on the brightside it means we are playing pretty good and the Band Director has no need to correct us ^.^

Our sections usually ignored too. we just say its because we're so good that he can't think of anything thats wrong with us lol

mesanjhs ya, my section! in my school, french horn is kinda like, the forgotten instrument and not much attention is given to us T.T it makes me mad when people see me carrying the case around and sk if its a tuba. they're idiots. the nice thing of french horn is that the notes(when played right) glide out and sounds awesome. it like, the ghost in the orchestra lol biggrin yea i brought my horn home on the bus and someone asked 'is that your basoon?' rofl and they were serious!

candy!x0x0 froglyomatic omg... if u play a mellophone, u r probably an old trumpet dungbrain, who knows absolutely nothing about a french horn. i am a true french hornist, and have been for almost 5 years. those of u who cannot play on the original F horn or on the double(like me) horn in the keys of Bb and F, u should not b here because u are fakes. haha! I so agree!!!! I'm forced to play mellophone during pep band and I hate it!! its like the anti horn!!!!!!!!!! its always out of tune, the bell is hard to keep up because the weight isn't distributed evenly, and its just a pain to listen too in general. Its almost impossible to make it sound half way decent. The only reason why they make it is so we don't have to march onto the fields with our horns and look really stupid trying to keep our hands in the bell lol Mellophone is stupid easy to play, though. Also, at my school, they've figured out to do a cool technique using it's horrible distribution. We call it the "Razzle-Dazzle"
