Jans Viper Dr.Nightz [ Smiling - Jak ] And perhaps this will teach him that power does not come from Speedhacking, but IG time. I've been IG since 2003. Does that mean I can actually USE Urza? Psh, youngling. Some of us remember when the original series of MTG books came out, not to mention the early sets. +bows+ Thou mayest be old, Old One, and I mayest be young, but I am no n00b, I stopped getting new cards around Judgement. After Scourge I got kinda disgusted with how obvious the power ramp was.

[ Smiling - Jak ] Trei: You did? Well that was stupid, see Ertai has this tendency to believe that Real-World OOC time effects the time inside of the battle.
Nightz: Ah, well that is how I always play my characters that have to "power up" to use higher tier or stronger attacks. ...
*Realizes that you're talking per fight/charge up times, not storyline growth*
Nevermind.

I find Storyline growth should be limited to the storyline the character is in and nothing more.

Clash Kiddick As a matter of fact, he actually used to try to be fair, while still being cocky as hell and constantly insulting his opponent. He had this Switch-Meridius account that he still brings out once in a while, only not that coolly, and he used to say himself that he refused to use his psionics stuff or the cyo stuff in a bad way. He'd just fight people melee-style or try to blow 'em up with a bunch of orbs, and I used to have a lot of fun reading his posts before anyone even knew who he was. This is actually a lot like Gelmax is. When I developed Gelmax into a planar mage, the AMP was still big in people's heads (mine included), and I put a lot of limiters on Gel's power that come into effect only against other people (a battle between two of my characters is a whole different adventure). Most of his offensive moves take several posts - for example, ripping someone's torso into another plane takes 2-3 posts to make up for the fact it's just about impossible to block. Other than that, and the fact that my characters are a lot more utilitarian than Ertai's, Gelmax and Ertai Vexic are very similar. They can do a lot of the same things, it's just that Ertai doesn't balance his character for fair play with others the way I do, and he focuses on unnecessarily flashy actions and essay-length posts while I prefer style with words (rather than actions) and simple to-the-point posts. Remove the vastly different OOC differences, and strip all the excess detail out of Ertai's posts, and Ertai's like Gel's misguided little brother. And in fact all that excess detail actually WEAKENS his character. With Gelmax, conversion from energy to mana to magic is pretty much direct and Gel plays conservatively to achieve the desired effects with minimal energy waste. Ertai's got to send energy through two paragraphs before he's even ready to START his attack, and he attacks in an excessive and wasteful way. Additionally, for high-level techniques such as planar stuff, magic is slightly more efficient than psionics due to its wide scope and comparative user-friendliness. What does all this mean? It means that while Ertai often claims his character outpowers everyone else, in reality his character's probably at the low end of the high tier in terms of power output and endurance simply because so much of it's wasted. scream

Don't prize yourself on crossing the line. =P Old School is playing Slivers in a Type1 tourny and actually getting into top 8, or playing Life when you could be playing Psycatog or The Rock. And old just means I'm over 14 buddy. =P

[ Smiling - Jak ] I find Storyline growth should be limited to the storyline the character is in and nothing more. Oho...but what if you place a character into a setting, such as the O/M, FFA, or this tournament, even, where the story continues almost constantly? It's almost impossible NOT to grow and learn and get stronger if your story continues for multiple years. Will you be godlike? Not necessarily. But you WILL get stronger. As you can see by how I treat my character, I think that that process of growth is an essential part of the fun of the game.

I admit that adding things to your characters base profile is sometimes needed, but if your character does become a god like you say in a sub-story (someone's RP where you just placed this already made character in) they should not stay that way.

It'd make our fight mucho fun. You'd better be in the final four Gel, else I'm going to be disappointed. =/ Or at least the top eight.

I've always thought Gelmax was pretty ********' cool, actually. I read some old stuff Tac gave me like Isle of Torment, and Gelmax 'porting in and HVPCing (I think that was the weapon) s**t up with CRISAT armor, cocking off to Ikibe's Alexander summon and all that was awesome. And yeah, your posts were, and still are, to the point and stylish with both words and character actions. Also, that RP was great to read because everybody was pretty much on the same page as far as style and all that went. It's why I admire places like Leviathan, too, because that atmosphere is about the same. It's also the exact opposite reason that places like FFA, and even this place (until the 'bad' people get weeded out to an extent), are a shithole.
