There may be a show out there that's better than Smallville, no doubt about that, but it's the most interesting show I've ever watched. heart

Foetus In Fetu Steven Moffat is fantastic. Steven Moffat Look, they turned [Doctor Who] to s**t and took it off for 15 years, and that didn't kill it. I mean, what's going to kill it now? Success? If it works it works. Sadly, we don't bring back old shows, we make newer remakes that are never as good. emo

"New Who" is a bit of a grey area. They shook up the format a bit when they brought it back, but at the heart I feel like it's pretty much the same show -- it is a continuation anyway.
Although you know, I feel like it was easier to bring back after fifteen years than most shows, due to the fact that it was already in the habit of changing its core cast from year to year anyway. If Tom Welling quit SV that would be grounds for cancellation; not so much if David Tennant quit Doctor Who.

I hate it when they switch out actors, like a soap opera. Very annoying.

Doctor Who is story-driven and self-mocking, so it's not really a problem. The fact that they provide some kind of hand-wavey explanation for something so obviously the result of real-world motivation kind of adds to the charm -- "Regeneration is the fantastic ability of a Time Lord to change his face every time the actor starts to worry about being type-cast".
It's a nice way to drive character and relationship development as well.

I don't think it is a soap opera. Sure Lana married a guy she isn't in love with and there is a messed up pregnancy and she wants to get back with her old flame and every now and then some crazy killer comes in I don't see how it is anywere near close to a soap opera. [/sarcasm]

I think Burn Notice is a pretty good show. It is on USA network on Thursdays. Pretty funny.
