Tyranids are coming January 2014 - Read all about it here! Tyranid Warrior Prime The Exocrine a.k.a. "Gunbeast" "Tentacle bit" that is used as a one-shot missile of sorts belonging to the Crone shown futher down. New Tyranid Warriors The other, as of yet unnamed variant that can be made with the Exocrine kit, probably the Haruspex. The Harpy! The Crone, the other Harpy kit option. Hive Guard. If that text is any indication of GW's quality, I'd say it's on the up!

well, after getting eaten by Tyranids today; I think its safe to say the Venomthrope is going to prove himself for a while, at least until your nid armies run into lots and lots of anti-cover weapons.
I sorely underestimated them

I sorely underestimated them What were your opponent's list and formation like? I think I have my 1k list figured out, but all still in the theoretical stage. Let me think... I know we were playing 1500 point armies, with myself being tau He had a flying hive tyrant acting as his warlord (ended up with the synapse 18" warlord trait), with psychic scream and two sets of twin linked devourers Tervigon with... some kind of nasty flamethrower weapon. I think he had it fielded as a troop choice 30 Termagants, natural loadout Venomthrope, never did learn what upgrades it had Two Zoanthropes Carnifex brood of three fully decked with scything talons; had something else giving them fleet as well Tyrannofex with the s 10 cannon Mawlock, upgrades unknown (kinda blew him apart the moment he deep struck in) Biovore brood of two My forces consisted of my commander in an XV8 suit packing iridium armor, fusion blaster, burst cannon, cyclic ion blaster, and shield generator; 4 full squads of fire warriors, two full squads of pathfinders, a hammerhead with a railgun, six man team of stealth suits, and a Riptide with the ion accelerator and feel no pain. Game lasted five turns, only thing I managed to kill was the damn hive tyrant and caused heavy damage to the gaunts; but he kept most of his forces in cover and that venomthrope gave EVERYONE within 6 inches of him Shroud, which considering the terrain was a 2+ cover save. Bad day to switch out the Airburst projector and not bring in my bomber... needless to say, without flamethrowers and my pahtfinders biting the big one by turn two; I was without a means to reliably kill his creatures without them ducking behind something

If you focused fire on the Zoanthropes and the Tyrant, you might be able to immobilize a big chunk of the force, since most everything else is subject to Instinctive Behavior.

I tried, and the Tervigon gave synapse as well; the problem was with 2+ cover on nearly everything while he was using the terrain to his advantage, I had nearly no chance of causing him any harm; all I could do was blast teh Tyrant while it was in midair and try to force it to ground

And yeah, I forgot about the Tervigon having synapse as well...

Played my first game with my 1000pt Tyranids yesterday and wow did that work out better than I expected! I'm going to be dropping the Tail Scythes from my Carnifexes because they're entirely unnecessary; between the Hammer of Wrath attacks at I10 and the scything talons, there's no need for the extra tail attack. I'm going to take the points from those and put Regeneration on the Hive Tyrant, because the latter took a LOT of focused fire, down to one wound by the end of the game.

Sometimes I wish I had bought Nids instead of Marines or Necrons which had been my first choice originally...
