yo!im new to the guild...so hi!
i play tenor but i have to start learning alto because apparently(according to my little brother's band teacher) a sax player wont amount to anything unless they start on alto.i dont belive that crap but my dad does....so i have to

hey happy new years saxs (a day late but still)... this is a sax related kinda question situation... i have a jazz band in my school... and we are a very tiny school. Seeing as our last remaining alto who is any good has gone we only have altos in their last year resulting in next year no jazz band for lack of altos...so sad crying ...but our music all in one guy (dont ask y i call him all in one) asked me cause i play alto as a kind of back up to play in it but i already play bari in it and love it...so im kinda in a dielema about whether i should play alto and hope i dont screw up or play bari and pray with the next year comes some awesome young alto players? ... sweatdrop

Jimmy, I'd stick with Bari, 'cause it's much more likely that you get a new alto player than it is a new bari player. >_<; Good luck getting some good ones, though!
I think I'm almost in your same situation... I don't think our jazz band is quite as small as yours, though. We have a totally kickass sax section (except for the 2nd tenor... but we don't talk about him >_>), but besides that 2nd tenor we're all juniors and seniors. NO underclassmen at all, and none want to join so far. So after my class graduates, jazz band is pretty much screwed. domokun

I started the tenor sax this year. My band teacher needed sax players(he only had one;we have 3 now) so I started. But I suck so next year my BD is having me switch back.
