Yes and no. Once you have the setup down, they're pretty low-maitenance. However, it's the 200 bucks of CRAP they need to start. (40 gallon + tank, uvb bulb with hood, heat lamps... probably two, general crap for IN the tank for them to climb/bask/hide under... expensiiiive). Then's the hassle of getting the heats right. 100-110 on the hot end, 70-80 on the cool. NO sand/bark/whatever beddings. Only like... cage carpet, tile, shelf liner, etc. I use outdoor carpeting.
Then add in needing to order 1000 crickets once to twice a month.
And their greens. (collards, turnip, etc.)
and their vitamin and calcium dust.
... ok maybe not so low maintenance. @_@ I manage him, two fish tanks, and a frog tank too, soooo.
