hicodycodes - Great to see you on. To make the planes of the body more distinguished, you can focus on how the light hits the body and where the shadow would go in relation.

This just kept on changing. First implemented mostly indigenous culture into the design then slowly shifted to an asian~esque theme. Towards the middle, I really wasn't digging what I had done. Didn't touch it for a while then came back to it. Theres was so much I wanted to do with this but I lost my patience. sweatdrop

i am a first time poster. i hope this link works...anyways i tried for a chinese theme. i repeated red a few times in the color and posed her ina thirds composition. i worked on cs3 and used a paintbrush default because i dont understand photoshop well. i hope yall like it. the idea was fun.

'lo there's! nice to see you around! i hope to see more from you twisted

great start on the burlesque piece! i think i probably would have wanted to see her all in the frame...like having her centered instead of off to the side. i know that usually makes for a much more interesting composition but since the main focus is to show the concept, i think it would be cool to see more of her and your design and less of the red background. especially her legs since a lot of pin-ups/cheesecake are usually focused on the sexiness of a woman's legs in hosiery and heels, heh. i really like her coy and seductive expression though!

===========================

rejean! i really like how this turned out, even though you don't sound very happy with it. heheh, she's got swirly pasties/nipples! they look like candy, yum yum.

i also love the little details like the pearls that are going down her chest between her breasts...really draws your eye towards it as the main focal point. and i like all the design on her skin; that's a great way to add more detail without having to cover up skin. heheh, her pelvis has a pretty flower merkin/pastie thing that's pretty cool and a great way to allude to her 'petals' down there. i like her props of the hat and fan, they would be a fun way for her to do her burlesque thing :3

i decided to go with something more indian influenced. i looked through a lot of different dancer photos for inspiration. it originally started with wanting to do something with an ornate headdress then things kind of went from there. i was really impressed by the colorful textiles and styles and tried to work with it. sorry the background sucks but i'm really horrible when it comes to that suff.

very beautiful, jen! it's great to see such a variety of different takes and ethnicities for this one...this was such a fun topic! as always, you've got a crazy knack for detail, and this one certainly has a lot of fun things to look at. i love her pose and expression; while it's not flamboyantly sexy in terms of gesture i really like having her serene and composed. it gives her a different sense of grace and sensuality. the vibrant colors and fun to look at, and it's great to see the different color combinations. and in the end i love the gold pattern you put on this. really drives the point home and makes both the background and the main figure cohesive.

oooh! i should do this more often. wait forever after the topic is announced to check out instead of impatiently waiting from day one smile

marissa u ******** killed it. that's so awesome. i love the outfit, and how the whole picture looks old and textured. you were right in nixing the sequins, it would have cheapened the whole thing. you had an amazing attention to detail with this one! head to toe it's very well thought out and coherent. love it! and u balanced the two criteria so freaking well.

hicodycodes: i don't really see any chinese reference other than the fact that the girl is asian. as far as her outfit is concerned, there really isn't any kind of ethnic inspiration in it. i do like your drawing style, with the messy paint strokes and vivid colors. but from a fashion perspective, to be honest, the outfit looks like it belongs to a cheap hooker. i'm not really feeling the random hair bun on top of her head, either. it feels like you just put it on there to make her look more chinese. it's not a good look, no matter what the circumstance.

rejean: u KNOW if u put pink in it, i automatically love it smile don't be so hard on yourself! this one is more simple than the other ones you've been submitting, but it's burlesque so she really shouldn't be wearing that much neways razz i like how u mixed tribal and japanese together. 2 for 1 razz oh i just ready your lil blurb. the two styles go surprisingly well together considering that you added the japanese last minute. the fan does a really good job tying in the width of her hips to the daintiness of her clothes. the only part that irks me is it looks like she's stepping on her dress.

ceraphym: you went all out with the ethnic inspiration. i love it. her jewelery is super sexy on her torso. i'm on the fence over whether or not i like her bottom half in regards to the topic. it does give it a more subtle sexiness, but i feel like it covers too much. i LOVE the outfit tho, it just leans more towards ethnic than burlesque. but everything is well thought out and i see multiple indian inspiration, so two big thumbs up from me.

well this is my lame attempt, twas supposed to be a korean ethnic influence, but that was a lot harder than i thought. I decided to go off their hanbok and do something, but instead it came out to be some victorias secret pajamas.... :

....and i didnt want to get all nude with it so it loses its burlesque feel. bah.

sporkii - well you know i think yours kicks all kinds of a s s, the whole page is exploding with shape and color, an over all fun and sexy pic to look at, and I especially love those proportions ; )

hicodycodes - haha, well it seems you and i have similar tastes; i think you could have flushed her out a bit more and bring out the features that would make her sexy, you could of made the piece a lot more solid with just some miner fixes. I say over all it gets the message across and looks anything BUT a cheap hooker. Keep on posting! good job.

rejean - well i agree that this could have been pretty epic, especially after seeing your fruit chicks, but still what you busted is very interesting and fresh, a different kind of rout, and i dig that a lot! and dont give me this patience crap! its time to level up! ><......i love the purples.

ceraphym - wow, i really love all the detail, all the designs are lovely, the only thing id want to see was maybe if the pose had a bit more expression to it. other than that i have no complaints, very pretty and elegant.

yourfatherbelt-

aww, thanks that was nice of you to say. actually i think you killed this jam. i really like the design. the feathers were a good idea and yellow was a good choice for the color. the bow tie is a good korean design it is popular in traditional clothing. this is my favorite piece from you this far.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 07, 2008 10:46 pm

i was commenting on the clothes rather than the actual drawing. cheap hooker might have come across rather harsh, but i don't usually sugarcoat my fashion critiques. i felt the clothes came off a little cheap because it only consisted of plain black bikini bottoms and a sheer negligee top, that for me, didn't reference any kind of culture. there's a lot of imagination in your actual drawing, so i feel that you're completely capable of coming up with kick a** designs. i think because of the vivid colors, it only made the outfit that much more simple in comparison. something as simple as making the top out of chinese silk (with the embroidered designs) would have given it an awesome ethnic touch. minor cliche props, like those rice paper umbrellas or even chopsticks could help embellish your topic choice. a more extreme idea would be to get inspiration from chinese operas, especially in makeup and hair ideas. i apologize if my comments offended you in any way. i just personally don't like seeing safe choices in the fashion thread and i like to bully the designers to get crazier designs out of them.

andre- for the country you chose, you did an awesome job with what you had. i like the motorcycle collar, it gives it an unexpected modern twist. it would have looked more traditionally korean if the bow was tied in the one loop way they do it. although now that i'm looking at it closer, i'm not sure if that's two loops or the end going under her arm that just looks like a second loop. i like the feathers, but i kinda wish her head dress was more dramatic and brighter. the brightness of her dress and shoes makes the feather seem dull. her hair is really cute, is it a messy top knot? i already told u i love the gloves. very chanel-esque. shoes are hot.. obviously razz

seriously justin. where. are. you.

I got some good progress on mine today (getting my a** kicked from every angle) So keep your tidey whities on. It will be coming shortly, I am attempting to learn something whilst I bust, however so far, no go sad

RJSauce: Dooooooood scandalously voluptuous. You busted a very unique direction, adding some crazy fantastical elements. Everything is looking good, and it seems you busted it out pretty quick. It also seems you learned a good amount doing the fruits stuffs, since you are adding details in all the right places, and making fashion decisions that are working it. gj rj.

Ceraphym: The colors are working for me, everything reads flat, but I dont think that's a bad thing at all. Yours carries a strong ethnic presence which I think is the challenge of this topic. The decor and everything not only feels extremely decorative, but pretty authentic, awesome job. Oh and I really like how the pattern on the cloth is very rich, and it feels like a nice surprise as you scroll down to it.

YFB: ******** man...this one of your refined pieces, and the end result relays the amount of time you spent on it. Your long thought process played out and allowed you to make some very good decisions. The colors are rocking and I think are very bold and strong. A typical color like pink would have worked, but not as well as this. The details in the fringe and ribbons and such are really selling it for me. I think Sumin hit the nail on the head when she said the gloves and the color give it a nice modern feel. Good job on the shoes btw! They match up really well it seems like you are only going to get faster at busting ish like this, and I can't wait to see these skills unfold.

Recently I got my hands on a whole bunch of Frezetta books, and I've been wanting to learn a thing or two from his work. I got a theme for this topic from Sumin, which was Egyptian. This worked out in an interesting manner, since I kept wanting to remove the clothes rather than add them, but it's harder to convey a strong sense of ethnicity with less clues. I attempted to implement bits and pieces of Frazetta's colors n stuff in it, and this is the result. I did learn a little while doing this...so there you have it.

you and your crazy themed backgrounds, i hope you always keep that up, its only going to lead to good things in the future. i think this one turned out pretty nice. Not only is this the burlesque piece, but she also looks like some kind of egyptian goddess. I think her pose and expression really compliments her seductive presents. heh the snake was a nice touch as well, an over all cool and different pic.
