The Kyoto Protacol, that is something we do NEED to accept. Of course, we won't cuz it would affect American life drastically. It's for the sake of all mankind, and we're being all selfish and s**t. *shakes head* Yeah, post the paper. We'd all enjoy a good read. mrgreen

well we need to change drastically or were doomed ok here is one I have another one to We must find ways to preserve and expand our environmental resources if we want a sustainable environment for future generations. We know so little about environmental interactions that we can’t even begin to predict long-term effects. For example it took nearly 15 years of study before we understood the relationship between the pesticide DDT and the declining populations of bald eagles, and we are still studying the effects of burning fossil fuels and global warming. The solutions to our environmental problems require both individual as well as universal action. Cooperation is necessary at international, national, and local levels conserving, saving, recycling, and discovering new, more efficient products to help us do the things we do every day. Humans have an obvious impact on the environment and it is up to each one of us to save our planet for future generations. Throughout history we have seen and felt the effects of our actions on the environment, but still many people continue to believe that we haven’t affected the planet at all. Everyday we continue to deplete our resources such as trees, minerals, fossil fuels, water, plants and animals. We can prevent this depletion through conservation of these precious resources. By recycling aluminum, for example, the same piece of material is reused in a series of products, reducing the amount of aluminum ore that must be mined. Also development of new technologies can also reduce the pressure we place on these resources even before they are fully depleted. Fiber optics, for example, has substituted for copper in many electrical applications, and it is anticipated that renewable sources of energy, such as photovoltaic cells, wind power, and hydropower, will ultimately take the place of fossil fuels when stocks are depleted. Fossil fuels like oil and natural gas are formed over millions of years. If we use up all of the existing oil there will be no more for our descendants to use. Even renewable resources such as fish and trees can be depleted. If trees are cut down faster than new ones can grow, we will run out of trees if all of the trees on a mountain are cut down, wind and rain will carry away the fertile topsoil and it may take many generations for trees to grow there again, this process is called deforestation. Species of fish have been fished out of existence and there is less in the ocean every year Because of this the actions and manpower needed to save our planet it is impossible to reach. Some companies have taken environmental initiatives and have started using and creating more environmentally friendly methods. While other companies are conveying the importance of taking care of our planet and the creatures that live on it. For example a quote from Warner Bros. Studios “Warner Bros. believes that everyone can play a leading role in environmental stewardship. By making a few simple choices, you can help conserve natural resources and ensure a healthy environment for future generations.” They have done their part by including a seafood watch guide in their latest movie release Happy Feet. The guide lists fish choices for healthy oceans for instance best choices are those fish that are abundant well managed and caught or farmed in environmentally friendly ways and the ones to avoid are harvested in ways that harm the marine ecosystems. The most effective and efficient means for conserving biological resources is to prevent the loss of important habitats and to manage resources for their long-term productivity of goods and services. In many cases, effective conservation in the field is no longer possible. For example, some species have been so depleted that only a few individuals remain in their natural habitat. In these cases, there is no alternative to the conservation of species and genetic resources in zoos, botanical gardens, and seed banks. Worldwide, zoos contain more than 3000 species of birds, 1000 species of mammals, and 1200 species of reptiles and botanic gardens are believed to hold nearly 80,000 species of plants. These collections hold many endangered species, some of which have breeding populations and thus could potentially be returned to the wild. Gene banks hold an important collection of the genetic diversity of crops and livestock which will be an important asset to our planet’s needs. So now the real question has become, can our planet be saved? There is no real answer yet. We need to start making dramatic worldwide changes such as; finding and using more efficient fuel sources and limiting harvesting of animals, plants, and renewable and nonrenewable resources. We can help by being more environmentally conscience in our daily activities such as turn off lights when they’re not being used, use energy efficient appliances, carpool or use mass transit as often as possible, and support businesses that help our environment. It is up to each one of us to do our part and if we do we can save the planet for future generations.

ok here is the other one i wrote... Can America really go green? America is the number one producer of green house gasses. With other problems such as world hunger, an aging population (soon capable of crippling Social Security and Medicare), a dependence on foreign oil, and rising greenhouse-gas emissions, it seems as though our elected officials should have their hands full. Yet, Congress spent two days debating the definition of marriage they also spent a day quibbling over the right to burn an American flag. Rather than facing the tough issues that our country and the whole planet are experiencing. Earth is like a human body, as both need to be treated with respect so they don't stop working. Burning fossil fuels and clearing forests significantly increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the Earth's atmosphere causing temperature increases. This is similar to eating cheeseburgers and living a stationary life causing the coronary arteries of one’s heart to build up with plaque, increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Neither of these behaviors causes noticeable harm from day to day as neither we, nor the Earth, will spontaneously combust in the near future from these actions. So does that mean we should ignore this problem until it’s too late or should we work to be healthy, both ourselves as well as the Earth. Action must be taken. In the United States, approximately 6.6 tons of greenhouse gases are emitted per person every year. Eighty-two percent of emissions are from burning fossil fuels to generate electricity and power our cars. So, you may be asking, what difference can I make? Well as an individual you could reduce several tons of emissions a year by buying fuel efficient cars, buying energy efficient appliances and using less electricity just to name a few. So just think if we could get everyone to do the same rather than a select few, our planet can go green and hopefully no longer be the number one polluter in the world. The United States continues to waste resources and although everyday we hear of ways to better our environment and even our economy the greedy companies, oil leaders, and politicians refuse to do a thing because they don’t want to lose their profits. But, an increase of money in their pocket means a decrease in the safety of our planet and all those that inhabit it. We must elect officials that support a green environment and buy goods and services from companies that have made changes in the way they do business to help save our planet. There are many ways we can and must change in order to go “green” and heal the damages we have caused. One major way is to insist that our country accept the Kyoto Protocol. The protocol is an amendment to the international treaty on climate change, assigning mandatory emission limitations for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to the signatory nations. The objective is the stabilization of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system. What sources of energy will light our cities and power our vehicles in the future? America can improve the planet for future generations by investing in technology and research to develop new energy sources and improve on the ones we already have. Solar energy for instance is clean, safe, and renewable. Homes can be built to utilize passive solar heating, in which sunlight is used to heat buildings directly by having energy-efficient windows that face south so that the house absorbs as much heat as possible from the sun. The house is also constructed using large amounts of stone, adobe, or concrete because these materials store heat better than wood or plaster. More than 1 million homes in the United States use solar energy to generate hot water. Another great source for energy is the wind. The technology of wind generators is well developed, and the cost of wind-generated electricity is lower than the cost of electricity produced by other sources. Some other forms of alternative energy include hydroelectricity, geothermal energy, biomass and hydrogen. Although all of these alternate energies are being used today further research and advancement in technology needs to be done to make them more available to all people. We all interact with and affect our environment and we must face the fact that our planet needs each one us. We are learning more and more each day how human activities affect our plant and we must continue to study the impact for our future. Much damage has been done to the environment, but much progress has also been made. Every day your actions contribute to the future of our planet and with concerted action, a sustainable future is possible. So just keep in mind our government, other nations and you must all work to make America and the rest of the world green.

Unfortunatly, it all rides on who gets elected into office next year. If we get another man like Bush, we're screwed. There will be no more time. We need as fast as action as possible, and if we don't, I believe it's all over.

when you get down to it the real problem is money. people don't care about the world as long as they can be rich. it is greed that is killing this planet. environmentally friendly technology is expensive and people dont want to spend that kind of money.
