The four gods Genbu, Byakko, Suzaku and Seiryuu. Usually represented by a Tortoise, White Tiger, Phoenix/Red Sparrow, and Blue dragon respectively. They represent North, South, East and West in Chinese culture, also the constellations and seasons of the year.
Each god has 7 different 'mansions', which was portrayed in the anime/manga Fushigi Yuugi as celestial warriors under the priestess of each god.
